Loved this oven – I'm surprised to read the negative reviews on this oven. It was such a fantastic oven for the time we had it (we sold the property a couple of years ago). Its temperature was accurate and it heated evenly. Never a moments trouble. I never used the pyro cleaning function however, as the oven was a breeze to clean without it that I never needed it!… Read more

I've purchased another SMEG oven (SFPA6925N) to go into our latest renovation based on how much I loved my old one. Slightly nervous now reading these other reviews... Hopefully I have another good experience.

Hard to recommend – I am a custom home builder and choose Smeg appliances for my home when i built. So far we have replaced a door which shattered and both knobs at least 2 times. I just had a prelim price to repair a knob again and its going to be about $250 before anything is replaced. This is the last straw as far as recommending Smeg appliances.  Show details

Pyrolitic Clean blew up the glass! – Ask anyone and they'll tell you I look after my stuff really well, bit of a clean freak and only done 3 pyro cleans in its life. Went for 4th clean and it blew up the glass, smashed to smitherines inside the oven, set off the fire alarm, scared the jeepers out of everyone. Massive clean up, lucky I have 2nd oven in different location as back up. … Read more

When calling the place bought from I was told I must've scratched the glass or slammed the door and the glass was fragile?! Errr no, sorry I totally respect my $3k purchases. Well I'm sorry but you'll have to ring the service people. I said surely there should be a warning that this can happen, or s recall if it's happened numerous times? No what do you mean? I said mate, my oven is in great nic and it's the 4th clean and it blows up. No sorry you'll have to ring service centre.

Just to say I would never ever recommend Smeg to anyone after this, would definitely go with the brand I really wanted, but was turned away from as the house design people I dealt with must've had good commissions with Smeg.

Crap that, buy Miele

Err 4 - locking oven AND uneven cooking. Don't buy SMEG!! – Have a Smeg oven, Hotplate and Range hood. Had nothing but problems. The Range hood had to be replaced in the early years and the oven has never performed well. We have had the oven checked and the electronic card replaced once already, the oven locks up with an error4 message and we can't get the food out, oven has never cooked evenly. Now the… Read more

Err 4 - Oven keeps locking – I have had this oven just over 2 years and it keeps locking while we are cooking. It happened when we first got it and back up service was poor. It continues to happen no matter what temp we cook at. Interupts many meals. We have perservered with this but now looking at changing to another brand due to the amount of frustration  Show details

Disappointed – The outer glass in mine exploded a month or so after installation. Not connected to pyro clean though. hadn't used that at that stage. It was replaced within 24 hours by Kitchen Things. I don't use the myriad of cooking options because I can't understand the directions (far too complicated). However I am now really annoyed because as I was wiping… Read more

out the interior after a pyro clean last week i have noticed a corroded bit in the bottom of the oven. it is a slightly curved line about 3 cms wide that follows the curve of the raised bit on the oven floor (assume that might be an element ?) It was purchased in April 2013 but not actually installed for a couple of onths when kitchen renovations proceeded. Bought in a kitchen package deal.

Mixed blessings – This oven is part of the Linear range we have used in the kitchen and has a great look. Its cooks veg very well and the great seal means that they dont dry out at all. However that virtue is problematic for cakes. The mud cake which was THE family birthday cake for the past 25 years will not work in there. Because it stays so moist inside, the… Read more

cake is just stodge, well beyond mud. The local trainer said she would cook and solve for me but didnt really have a solution other than to try more flour, which didnt help. I have made this cake in expensive and cheap ovens over all these years and now I can not do it. Its the main sweet I cook so its a big deal for us. Also as per the hob I reviewed I am finding this oven v hard to keep clean. The internal cavity can be pyrolitically cleaned fine, but all the parts have to be removed and the trays and rails and racks are REALLY hard, more impossible to clean folloing their instructions. I have not gone harsh in the cleaning as this is not recommended but I am disappointed to have to live with such dirty equipmement. I got the impression at the local distributors that the trays could be left in and cleaned during the P cleaning but not so according to the booklet. We also had a lengthy process to get a working oven as there was contril panel issues but this was fixed by an exchange after about 6 months, tho sadly the new model had much paler display. The very bright original display was part of the original attraction. Its is true the oven stays cool on the outside, but it does pump out a lot of air from the top which is more breezy to work around than I like personally.

Dangerous – We had this oven installed in a holiday house and yes it is out of warranty but the oven has been used approx 20 times and that is all. I used the Pyro self clean function for the first time and less than 30 mins into the clean the glass exploded. I have since been told that Smeg will cover the cost of parts but we have to pay labour and travel… Read more

costs. We were told we must have "bumped" the glass and that is what has caused the glass to explode. Going by the amount of other smeg appliance owners that have the same thing happen I think maybe it would be a fault in the product. The digits have also stopped displaying correctly. Not a very reliable product.

Dangerous Product! Beware! – I was a huge fan of Smeg with my whole kitchen decked out with Smeg appliances (rangehood, cooktop, oven and dishwasher), however we recently used the Pyro function and less than 30 minutes into it there was a loud explosion of glass spanning around 3 metres. I am so grateful that I pulled my toddler away from the kitchen a few minutes before the… Read more

explosion as caution to the heat, who knew a trusted appliance could be so dangerous?

I called the Smeg customer hotline shortly after and was told I was out of warranty and they couldn't help me. They didn't even ask if everybody was okay. Never mind that their product is so dangerously unsafe and could not perform their Pyrolytic function. I had to push for details of their WA service centre to see if this fault could be fixed and I was begrudgingly forwarded on. Their WA service centre said they could replace internal glass as 'goodwill' but I would still have to pay a call out fee and an hourly charge. I had the glass replaced and arranged payment for the labour today. On top of this when I called, I was snapped at for not having an account number they were rude and abrupt when the only relevant details the tax invoice had was an invoice number and the terms of 'Cash on Delivery'.

Even though the glass has been replaced I wouldn't use the Pyro function again. I don't know the cause of the explosion and wouldn't risk it with my family. My husband was three metres away when the explosion occurred and he felt the hot spray of glass on his shins and feet. It would take a new oven before I would cautiously try a Pyro function again. It is extremely disappointing to spend a premium price on an oven that is supposed to Pyro clean (bought brand new) and not even function safely after a few years. This whole experience has ensured I will be looking at other brands for kitchen appliances in future and has put me completely off Smeg.

Oven RRP is over $3000, it lasted just over 2 years. When into Pyro mode while cooking dinner – The oven's RRP is over $3000 and it stopped working after 2 years and 2 months. Cost a fortune and last 4 years ..NOT GOOD ENOUGH ! – Put this into our new kitchen in late 2010 . Tried the pyrolytic clean function a few days before a big party and the door shattered . Very lucky no one was in the kitchen at the time as it really exploded ... Hot glass all over the kitchen . As it was only a week old Smeg did replace the oven ..but not in time for the party which of course was a… Read more

major problem .

Oven the works well for 4 years until once again after using the pyrolytic clean it just stops working . I email Smeg stating that I felt a expensive oven like this should last more than a mere 4 years . They did agree to pay for parts ( temp sensors and door lock) ,but we paid out several hundred dollars for labour ,and we're without an oven for 3 months while we waited for parts .

Now only 4 months later it has stopped working yet again and I am told by the service company that did the repairs that the "90 days warranty " period is over .

I am very reluctant to pay out even more money to get a serviceman out to look at it ...who wants to throw good money after bad !

We are probably just going to replace it with a cheap no frills unit as clearly good money does NOT buy quality these days .

Some infomation – I bought the house brand new with the oven already installed. All the machines in the house are good names as the builder went with brand names only I think. when the outer glass exploded half way when the pyrolyse function being in used the first time- since two years when we bought the house- the oven was not very dirty, I just used the lower level of pyrolyse function. I have contacted The National Service Manager for Smeg who you can find information on this page. I have good respond from him and it is being fix now.

For myself, I will not using the pyrolyse function anymore although it cleans the oven perfectly. I would like to post information on here to let you know just in case you choose it, do not stay or let children looking into it when it is in used.

Actually, I think my family will avoid to look into/stay close to ovens/ microwaves from now on. No one knows.

Load of rubbish – We have done the pyro clean twice in 8 months and both times the internal glass exploded causing hell of a mess. Can't get anyone to admit there is a problem and change the unit over.. It took 4 weeks the first time to get some action out of Smeg. Lets see how long it tkes this time... not much

Another dud – Our SAP112-8 randomly does not work. Fix is to 'reset'. One of the knobs fell off, yes, fell off. How is this possible? Email to smeg goes unanswered. Complete waste of time. Instructions in manuals are impossible to follow. Don;t waste your hard earned $$$ on these dud machines. We have a miele in other house a lot older than this and with no… Read more

Disappointed and frustrated also – I also agree with "disappointed and frustrated" as I have had my oven now for 12 months and still need to refer to the manual constantly and still don't always get an answer. grill alot and now do not grill at all because of the fact that it constanly smokes out my house and sets off the smoke alarm.....

I like that fact that it self cleans but who wants to stand there constantly turning off the smoke alarm whilst it is running..... I am also nervous that it is going to start a fire or glass is going to explode now after reading other reviews.

Hate the grill

Fantastic cooking o en – Fantastic cooking oven, no reduction in food size, even cooking ,cold door , Looks amazing , craps all over my old Miele oven - no comparison . Great lighting , fantastic accessories available for this oven. Use lower temperatures due to thermo seal technology. Italians know cooking and food , and this oven proves that by miles. Love this oven!!!! Cooks well, cool door easy to clean value for money No cons

Disappointed and frustrated – I thought I had done my research well before deciding on buying the SAP112-8. Unfortunately, the manual and instruction books left a huge amount to be desired. still frustrated. I have contacted the showroom for assistance and they have tried to help but do I need to contact them everytime I want to bake!!!! Its all a matter of test and try, test and try and unfortunately it has taken alot of pleasure out of having my new oven. The pyrolytic cycle: It seemed easy to use with great results. Seemed good value for money. Telescopic rails don't run smoothly; difficult to work out what function to use for own recipes; instructions not clear

More than enough – Very happy with the oven. Went with Smeg because of the brand and design. Cooks great as well and have had no problems at all. Controls are easy to use once you read the manual or do the oven use course offered by SMEG. A great look in any modern kitchen. Design, controls, performance  Show reply
