Amazing community based gym in the heart of Balmain – Classes, weights room, cardio equipment, everything you need in a gym! Great value for money. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area. The staff are friendly and professional. Go in and give it a go!

Friendliest Gym in Balmain – I joined this gym 10 years ago and can honestly say I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. Great range of classes all included in the fees. No add on here. All class instructors are excellent. Friendly approachable staff. Always got time for a friendly smile hello and goodbye. Very important. Good range of equipment. Above all wide range of ages shapes sizes. We all just mingle along. If you haven’t popped in yet then do

Stay Away! – Tiny, dank, limited equipment. Classes are so jampacked (no pre-registration) you barely have room to exercise. Staff isn't trained to deal with issues/complaints. Club manager doesn't respond promptly (3 weeks?!), refuses to meet for personal complaints, and is oblivious to the deteriorating quality of their services. Funny how the centre's staff agrees with me that classes are overpopulated while the manager sidelines this critique, recommending I exercise on my own or pay for a trainer!

Fortnightly cost is cheap - that's how Affordable Fitness lures you in - but the cancellation fee is $350 with a 7-day cooling period. With a fee that high you'd think you're at a top fitness centre, but in reality you're at the bottom rung of the gym pile. Try to get this fee waived or lessened given your disappointments? Get ready for an inconsiderate email, something like "too bad we don't suit you; pay up." Makes you wonder if they make money off cancellations.

In short, Affordable Fitness is the worst institution I've transacted with in the Balmain/Rozelle community. I have switched fitness centres in the same area, and now very happy. Pray that the industry finds a way to protect costumers in locked-in contracts if problems occur over time (the tribunal is prohibitive/costly); otherwise places like Affordable Fitness will always get their way. Also - read gym reviews (there are a lot of places as bad as AF) and report issues to Fair Trading and Choice Australia. Really, thank goodness for Choice and their consumer advocacy.
