looked simple enough, so I unboxed it and started to put it together.

The bike is almost completely assembled. You just need to put the front wheel on, the handlebars and then adjust everything to fit the rider. I think the trickiest part was adjusting the disc brakes so it spun without touching the pads as I was alone and don't have a bike stand. Total assembly and adjustment time was about 60 min.

I put the battery on charge but decided to ride the bike as a pushy to see if everything was working and to fine tune all the controls. The bike rides nicely. The 29 inch wheels make it slower to respond in the turns, but they are so good for riding over bumps etc as the big wheels just roll over them like they were not there!

First impressions.

The bike was packed well in the box, everything was wrapped in foam and/or cardboard and zip tied together. some of the tape was in contact with the head tube and it has left a stickie mark there. I will deal with that later. There is a box of bits and pieces to finish/assemble the bike, a bunch of manuals and a charger in a seperate cardboard box.

The bike is HUGE. I guess with the 29 inch wheels that is to be expected. At the start I mentioned that I bought two, well the bike is so tall that my friend could not put both feet on the ground even when off the seat, so one was returned today.

It is a heavy bike but I recon it will be about the same as the brand name bikes of similar specs that I have looked at so far.

It is Huge.

The finish is acceptable. You don't see lots of anodising but the paint is decent. The black finish on the allen head bolts already show thru to the metal below.

The derailier is a Shimano Acera which if I can believe the internet is made for trails. The one on my bike shifts nicely and has not missed a gear yet.

It is HUGE

The battery when fitted leaves a slight gap towards the top where the release catch is. I don't expect this to be a issue and you only notice it when really looking at the bike. Two keys are supplied and you need the key to release the battery from the frame, at least this will slow down anyone trying to steal the battery. On a side note after a search on the net I found that the battery is readily available, including the higher capacity ones.

On the whole it is a good looking bike, but did I mention earlier it is HUGE?

When the battery was fully charged I plugged put it in the bike and went for my first pedal assisted ride. I was very surprised how nice this bike is to ride. It's got heaps of power and as long as you pedal it will keep moving. The brakes are decent and I did not encounter any issues. I have not ridden it on any tracks yet but hope to this weekend. As of now, What can I say? I'm impressed and in my opinion, this Aldi E MTN bike is great value for money.

happier with the performance. Seat post works great, handle bars are nice and wide, break leavers worked until they leaked oil but were changed under warranty. The motor does not have as much power as the Bafang M400 Kogan bike but the battery lasts twice as long, the Progear rear hub motor is great for turing the beaches. The front forks are great and have a great feel and good smooth return. Cons - Motor not as powerfull as the Bafang M400, riding up the same very steep hill the M400 will get to speeds of 22km the Aldi TSDZ3 18km. Aldi Estate is a very heavy bike at about 26kg but all my bikes weigh about the same. Good work Aldi for such a great bike!

Surprisingly good for the money – (Written Feb 2022 about the 2019 model) I grabbed one in 2019 for $349 with cable disc brakes and the 2 x whatever driveline. be useful I suspect if you're under 85kg. Preload did nothing but it locks out fine. The discs work ok at my weight but I know the same dollars worth of v-brakes would have been more effective.... first world problems lol. The driveline works well. Both cables needed a twiddle (youtube is our friend) but it shifts properly - I got straight into the groove with it - amazing. I got a longer seatpost ($30 bucks) for the proper length for my legs. It's heavier than the 26 inch XC bikes I mostly rode (16ish kg instead of 11ish) but the 29er wheels roll well. And all the bits are fine. It is a proper MTB to ride and might be the best value I've ever gotten for riding. Instead of being a throw-away bike, I'm actually putting a better 2nd hand fork and front brakes on it in 2022.

knowledge and some simple bike tools, a bike stand helps here. (Instructions in the box are ok) Adjusting the derailleur/gears is easy enough after a quick google. It has cable driven disc brakes, not hydraulic. Large fits me well and I'm 178cm 90kgs

Ds2600 is a really good bike for the price, simple tuning and maintenance is required but that is required for all bikes.

Amazing quality for the price – I've been using the 2019 version as everyday ride for four years, and it has been perfect. Polygon make great frames. I gather the more recent ALDI offerings may not have the same specs for the price, so just take careful stock and compare with the similar offerings you can see on Polygon's website, or one of their local retailers such as bikesonline.com.au - if the ALDI is substantially cheaper, go for it. Show details

snap off. Bike shop had to re position the back wheel as it was rubbing and re-do the gearing set up. The supplier paid for that. 2 min down the road after picking it up the noise in the crank became unbearably loud and sounded dangerous. After showing the video to the supplier they have sent a replacement crank, crank arm and bottom bracket. Terribly build quality and one to stay away from. I look forward to selling this and buying a proper bike. I just wanted something to ride with my kids!

inspected more closely for the word 'Premium' on the box, It was the same price so I thought it must be the one but this has a very cheap derailleur setup, cheap forks and no hydraulic brakes. Compared to the highly regarded 'Premium' of prior years this is just a toy but mysteriously at the same price. It needs a lot of adjustment on both the cheap cable brakes and the derailleur to get it safey rideable. It was otherwise very easy to put together.

To answer a burning question I had before purchase: the motor appears to be a TONGSHENG MIDDLE MOTOR TSDZ3 with a VLCD6 Display/controller, which is actually pretty good and reliable from what I can tell looking at online reviews. Reviews I've seen have suggested it's more reliable than the Bafang equivalents, but less known. Assembly was pretty easy. Gears were well tuned out of the box. Suntour XCM32 front forks are good for a bike at this pricepoint and the dropper seat post works nicely. Torque sensing is really nice and works well. Very responsive. Schwalbe Tough Tom 27.5x2.35 tyres seem pretty good. They're very fat! The balance of the bike is good having the battery where it is gives a good centre of gravity and stability. But the bike is HEAVY. Not too much of a biggie given how responsive the pedal assist is. It doesn't have ebrakes, so you can have the brakes and the motor fighting each other if you're doing finer movements…

Controller is actually configurable between 25Km/h and 45Km/h (fiddling with the controller buttons, although only 25 legal in AU). I noticed the wheel circumference was not set up properly for the speed sensor, so it was reporting slower speeds than what I was actually riding at based on my GPS watch, however that is also fixable with holding down the right buttons on the controller to edit the settings. I have tweaked, but not tested yet. Bit annoying they hadn't set it properly.

One of my biggest concerns when purchasing this was that the parts support and namely battery support into the future. Only 1year warranty is not great, but what if the battery fizzles out after 2-3 years, which is more likely… Well one nice surprise for me was that I noticed the battery appears to be similar, if not the same as that used in other emountain bikes (eg: Pedal Coyote emountain bike), which gives me a bit more confidence that I'll be able to get a replacement battery if needed.

Overall I'm very impressed with the bike in terms of specs, performance (only tested on road) and aesthetic, but I do have some issues that are worth mentioning: Brakes appear to be no-name brands and I had some hydraulic fluid leaking out near the levers after a day of light riding, which will definitely need to be fixed. In fairness this could happen to any new bike that may need some tweaking, but does need to be resolved ASAP. I can probably fix myself, but don't really want to touch anything as it should still be covered under warranty, given that it's brand new. Apparently they have several service centres scattered about, I have contacted the tech support which is through Tempo. So far the after sales / tech support experience has been bad (putting it mildly). At the moment, I have little faith that the issues will be resolved - I spoke to a person on the phone that barely even knew they sold ebikes. I got absolutely no information and am currently waiting for them to get back to me via email / callback.

Secondly, a somewhat annoying thing to see was that there appeared to be some scuff marks / imperfections in the black coating on the frame and the wheel rim that had been filled in with black permanent marker (or something similar) from the factory to hide the blemishes. Wasn't too major, but definitely not a good look coming new from the box with coverups.

These annoyances are irritating, but not deal breakers for me. In terms of bang for buck, it's pretty darn good. Time will tell what corners have been cut in terms of rusty fastners and minor components, but for now everything certainly looks the part.

Bike not fit for purpose- terrible support – I bought this bike Apr ‘20. It has a serious issue with the back wheel making it unridable. I contacted Crane (Bicycles Online- Frenchs Forest) and dealt with staff who say it is a service issue and not a problem with the product. wheel/tire rubs on the frame. Customer support has claimed it is my responsibility to have the bike serviced despite having only ridden it about 100km. (A few 6km round trips to work). The above mentioned trips to work are on road and footpath, the bike hasn’t even seen the off-road. Not fit for purpose. Rude and obnoxious support. Just a really bad experience. Very disappointed as I love some of the stuff I’ve bought from Aldi. It appears Bicycles Online in Frenchs Forest is hiding behind the generic ‘Crane’ brand of Aldi so no party actually has to take responsibility. I have already warned a few colleagues off this product and will continue to do so due to the terrible build and quality.

I have bought other cheapy in-a-box MTBs and worn flat spots within the first couple of months, but I've had this bike for six months and there is little obvious sign of wear with almost daily use. 4. Front suspension lock out. I treat this bike as the two wheel equivalent of an SUV. It spends most time on on sealed roadways, and it does off road okay. The lock out is great on the road. This is the first bike of this size with anywhere near these features _and_ a lock out.

Cons: 1. The supplied seat stem is way too short. The assembly instructions say not to extend past a mark on the stem _and_ extend so that you get full extension on the down pedal. This is impossible with what's in the box of you are 180cm or over (probably shorter). 2. The front chainring is too small. I can't remember the exact size, but the top gear is about two clicks short for me to cruise and I have _never_ found the need for the lowest gear. 3. Some of the assembly was a bit loose, particularly spokes. If you ever get a bike-in-a-box from anyone, make sure you understand wheel building and do regular checks for the first 50 or so KMs -or- be prepared to pay a bike shop for a wheel true and tension. Also, I've found the need to adjust the derailleur early on, clutch and control.

Overall: Well worth it for the money, just be prepared to put in some work and maybe replace some parts straight up.

use. Reach down and lock the forks for road cruising. Effortlessly Got up to 35km on the flat (phone speedo app). Crank and peddling good. Fantastic on Light off road dirt trails with the front adjustable shocks performing great. The budget continental tyres feel like good quality rubber and perform well on and off road. I will replace with same when needed. Nothing bad to say about this bike it does look plane but Aggressive. You could dress it up with some colour stickers or stripping. You feel tall and high with the large wheels which feel a bit strange on turning at first but you get use to it after a few rides. A pleasure to ride and I am finding myself riding more often. Great Bike – I have taken this down Kalamunda trails in Perth quite a few times now and am absolutely loving the bike. For $450 it is an absolute steal. internal cable routing, Deore derailleur and hydraulic brakes are fantastic and simply can't be beat at this price.

have to widen the wheels to get those big tyres to sit properly. This led to a search for the widest, lightest, best value compatible rims which I eventually found. Cost? $824 for the wheelset incl hub adapters and $170 for the tyres incl tubeless sealant. The wheels appear similar to the one that came off but they are much stronger, more rigid and weigh less than some far more expensive carbon wheels. Nevertheless, at this point I'm thinking "Am I one of those guys who overspends on a cheap bike". Carefully analysing the situation I soon conclude that it doesn't matter what bike I had I'd still want to make significant changes - that's just me. So I plough on.

Next I decide the forks are getting some abuse from my endless stoppies and 180's plus I'm feeling their weight when wheelying...it might be an idea to look for something stronger and lighter that fits my vision of how I want the bike to look..and I found it for $800. Overkill perhaps in terms of performance but overall worth every buck in my humble opinion. Keep in mind that I'm making sure all these parts will fit onto a replacement modern frame if it ever gets that far. I just don't think I will as the current frame is strong and light and looks nice (again,to me). In short, it's all I need it to be.

I love my bike and I can't imagine being any happier with any other at any budget. I've had the opportunity to ride some high end bikes (some $10k+) and while most of those feel very nice off the shelf I'm so particular (read OCD, if you like) that I'd still want to change many parts..even if some just for appearance. That said, my use case is very specific and this evolving bike fits it perfectly; lightish trail riding with my son and re-living some of my old bmx freestyle days albeit with the new - but fun - challenges of a much bigger bike.

Update: I recently added some wider Race Face 35mm carbon bars and a slightly shorter (35mm vs 45mm) Funn stem. Also new is a super light USE seat post and ideally styled (and comfortable) light-weight Selle San Marco saddle. The opportunity to cut weight in these areas, a total further reduction of 411g, makes sense given the reasonable costs involved - about $500 (I know, more than the original cost of the bike but irrelevant for the reasons already outlined). I may fit some decent magnesium pedals as I still have the fast deteriorating crappy ones that came with the bike so need something soon.

Meanwhile, just enjoying the ride....

Update2: Got those magnesium pedals. I still love my bike although trying to keep up with my 12 y/o son on his full-sus machine is becoming ever more challenging as he gets stronger and more skilled..and I get older. I've been jumping off a few things and haven't so far broken anything..myself included. Bike is nice and light(ish) at a little over 12kg, but looks heavier. I might at some point replace the frame but I like the current one so much in matt black.

research had a bike in each spec at least $150 but mostly around $200+ better than major established brands like Giant etc. They are the same supplier of what appears to be the same bike in that link. So happy with the purchase. It truly fits the definition of a ‘special buy’. I put the bike together easily with only the headset needing a bit of adjustment. We rode extensively through mountain trails near our home and my wife is very happy with everything - the large 29 inch wheels, the single gear set to navigate (which are perfectly spaced) the brakes etc. Safely the best value entry level hard-tail mountain bike going. My best Aldi purchase yet.

Premium bike for the price – Have had this bike 1 week and yet to fully test it's off-road ability. (Although attached stickers tell me it is not for downhill riding or jumps!). to the younger set with their more modern suspended equipment. I always reckoned the lighter bike with greater maneuverability made up for the lack of suspension. By necessity I have learnt to ride loose to avoid the jarring. Initially, getting used to the extra gyro effect of the big wheels means quick steering changes require more input from the body. The bigger wheels and tyres also mean extra effort is required to accelerate the approximate 14.5kg of bike weight. At first glance the bike has quality componentry and is well assembled, although i had to make a slight adjustment to the front brake pad alignment on mine. One of the few things they show you in the otherwise pretty useless manual which despite it's pages of general instruction does not even list the specs for this bike; although curiously they do list the torque specs for every threaded component! Even the included supplementary Shimano brochure is for a different model gear system. The rear 10spd Shimano Deore RD 6000 works smoothly with the SL - M6000 shifter i find pretty ergonomic only needing little finger pressure to up shift. The rear derailleur cable on my bike was also routed very close to the chain ring so i added a zip tie to secure it to the frame. My main gripe at this stage is the low top gear ratio with the bike running out of breath on the slightest downhill slope. If you see yourself spending a fair deal of time cruising/touring then this could be a significant and annoying issue. The high centre clearance with the smaller 32T chain ring is a plus though. To me the SR Suntour XCM 100mm, Hydraulic Lockout and Preload Adjustment front forks work surprisingly well. I have found previous front suspensions bouncy and annoying. With the standard preload and the forks unlocked it removes the jarring without absorbing too much rider pedalling energy. It is easy to reach and lock the right hand cap on the fly. I have seen some disasters with hydraulic disc brakes (bleeding issues /hose lines chewed by the dog!) and as long as they do not get damaged the Tektro Hydraulic Disc HD-M275 should be fine. The pads do need bedding in with some initial hard applications before they really get to bite and produce a positive feel. The seat post is about 35mm too short for me so i will have to spend to get it right. The seat is also a bit bare bones if you spend a bit of time cruising which i will, so will probably upgrade that as well. And then there is the colour - or lack of it! I don't know if it is a price point issue but matt black ... really! Personal opinion I know, but with so much black with the wheels and tyres and all other hardware, any colour - even white would have looked better in my opinion. The attached gloss transfers are a waste of time which make no sense unless you are standing in the right spot. I will concede the paint quality seems pretty good though.

ALDI 2019 29er is legit – We lined up and I am a little stunned by the quality. Deore Shimano, disk brakes and internally routed aluminium frame are all premium. surfaces that includes a couple of kerb hops. I've also taken it on a few +50km rides. The riding position is reasonably relaxed and suits my style of riding, and the 29er tyres are great for absorbing minor bumps along the way. However, the shortcuts to achieve a sub $400 price point are evident with use. If you ride in the wet, like I have, the chrome nuts will rust soon. Secondly, while the Shimano gearing is proudly displayed on the bike, what you can't see is the no-name bottom bracket with Chinese characters that broke on mine after six months. It cost me $90 to replace with what I hope is a better quality Shimano unit. Over, a good bike for general riding, and good value for the money. Hopefully the hydraulic brakes on the 2019 model need less frequent adjustment than the cable brakes on the 2018.

Cran Bike – I bought one a Cran bike 5 years ago and the first time I used it the peddle fell off the 2nd time it was the crank and the breaks failed going down a hill. I only researched this page because someone had a 2nd hand one for sale with helmet ridden once for $99 and I asked what brand it was and didn't recognise the name. it or any other Aldi bike even though they have lots of quality products and I shop there all the time as the first one i bought had safety issues.

This thing will kill me – Brakes are horrible, either too loose or catch on the tyre. Handlebar easily slides out of alignment. The front wheel bashes your foot whenever you turn. I CANNOT tune gears to get onto the highest, the chain jams up before it can shift. I needed a cheap option to get to work and because I live on a hill I will probably be found dead by the side of the road. Show details

month, for the common issues raised. Seat: yes, it is a narrow and hard one. But most other bikes including the much more expensive one I bought from Rebel had similarly hard seats. With a weak front fork suspension, it can be a problem on bumpy roads. But it is not a big deal. If you like, you may change one, as I did, or put a cushion or gel seat on the top. You could also make the front tube less full, so that it feels less bumpy. Handel bar loosening: yes, I found it does not grip very well initially. But after tightening the screw hard, the problem is gone for good. The above two are the “problems” I found. But for a brand new bike with such a low price and yet one year warranty, I still rate it a good bike---for such a price, you can hardly get a reliable second-hand bike. Furthermore, this new bike has an excellent 21-gears Shimano derailleur. Of course, you perhaps need to adjust it a bit to make it perfect, as I did. Also for the breaks. But they are easy to do if you know how. For tyres/tubes, no problem for my bike at all, no leaking whatsoever. Overall, I am happy for such a bike, with such a good price and performance so far. Honestly, I do not think it is fair to expect an immaculate bike for such an economic price, or compare it with a high brand bike which easily costs you several thousand dollars---a kind of comparing orange with apple.

Spent more on repairs – I bought the duel suspension cape for $125 for street crusing for a 50 year old woman. First thing to go were the gear shifters. derailier jammed and snapped going down a steep hill. Replaced with a better quality one from a spare bike. Spokes rust quickly but the wheels are quick to stop rolling and need replacing. The mechanical disk brakes are too slow to stop the bike to avoid danger. Yep replaced with hydronic brakes $80. Front forks seem to be wearing through the tubes and will need to be replaced too soon. The frame is ok but the suspension arm lacks a bearing

Excellent bike! – Initially wasn't too sure if I wanted to buy Aldi's bike... I was considering Trek Marlin / Dual Sports... but good specs at a very good price, I ended up buying one, its a decision I don't regret at all. Fantastic bike for the price – For $350 there was literally nothing close in terms of components/features from places like bike shops. generic tires and super hard seat.

Besides those two complaints, the bike rides really well and has an unexpectedly low amount of rolling resistance and it is easy to maintain a high speed.

The frame feels quite stiff/solid too, I will be upgrading the front forks am hopeful that the frame and components will make a good beginner hard tail.
