Blows cold air but doesn't cool a very small room? – I bought this over another on at Bunnings as it was the only one in stock and I was desperate for some relief from the 35+ degree heat. My rental has very small bedrooms so I thought it would work fine. It does blow quite cool air which is lovely, but as soon as you step away from the air flow, you are standing in a very hot room. Ive had this… Read more
on 18 all day in a closed room and the room is just as hot as every other one in the house.
Its pretty noisy, but Id rather noise over being hot.
Am planning on returning it as it just wont cut it.
Arlec 12.000btu portable air con – Im quite happy with it as before i had it i couldnt function in this heat as i get older. I imagine in my bedroom it would work really well. I find hanging a sheet at bottom of stairs in a townhouse helps a hell of a lot. Very satisfied. Show details
OK only in very small room – In a 3m x 4m bedroom it works OK at night time ONLY. Daytime heat load is too much for it in a unit with no shade (double brick and well insulated roof. Body corporate wont allow shutters or external blinds in case it reduces power company proffits :-( Move unit into a larger room 4m x 6m and it struggles to do anything except provide a cool… Read more
breeze. The room temp in the larger room dropped about 2 degrees after it was running for an hour. It was night time and outdoor was 32 degrees C and the room dropped from 28C to 26C. Noise is low - quieter than normal conversation. Portable power meter read 1440 Watts so it will cost us 27 cents per hour to run (Power Shop rates) - on all night is about $20/week. Purchased from Bunnings. Fair price at $399 on special.
works great.. can do large areas. too noisy for the bedroom where we need it most – works great.. can do large areas. too noisy for the bedroom where we need it most. another great feature is that the condensation is re circulated. so theres no need to empty trays as i believe you do with other portables.
Good portable aircon – I recently bought send hand but it's extremely good, just for example my friend both another manufacturing in same time but he passed off and sold in cheap price but in this warm weather my one work well and perfect good cooling and fast air as well Hopefully will use in new summer cooling and fan speed
Cools the room – We bought this unit from Bunnings. It's a big unit but not cumbersome to move around as its on rollers. Easy to put together and the adjustable window fix fits perfectly in our large sliding window. We have it installed in our bedroom and turn it on at night. Two things worth noting. 1) Choice magazine state that "portable air cons aren't… Read more
included in the energy ratings scheme so you won't find one with a rating on it". So use carefully as I am a little concerned with the impact on our power bill. Its a known fact that these types of air cons consume much more power than a split system air con.
We haven't had a power bill as the unit was only bought 2 days ago. We cant install a split system as our home is a small one with nowhere to properly install one. This portable one was the next best thing and we were desperate thanks to the heat wave and I have MS which means I have no "thermostat".
2) This unit is very very noisy. A big drawback if you are a light sleeper like me. We cannot sleep with it on. This is due to the compressor being in the unit in the room rather than like a split system where the compressor is located outside your home. We are using the air con to cool the room a couple of hours before going to bed.
We switch it off when we go to bed and rely on fans to keep the cool stirring in the room, and we're happy using it this way. I guess you could say that in using it in this manner it might conserve some power... I hope! Does the job calling the room. Easy to move from room to room. Easy to install. Too noisy and will not be energy efficient. If you are not concerned about an major increase in your power bill and are a heavy sleeper then go for it.
Works well (Sort of) – Seems to work well. Went together easily and installation was simple. Only shortcoming is that the axial flow exhaust fan was out of round and broke a section out when it started up the first time after installation It is still working but will be returning to the store when they open tomorrow. Price ($499), claimed output, variety of window… Read more
fitting options included, known brand versus some of the odd one you see in some shops Fan is damaged and failed due to a manufacturing or assembly fault on first start up.
