I purchased the above doorbell from Aldi for just under $90. The system is great , however..... Arlo advertises that there is no subscription - which is correct - FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF MONTHS!!!! Then, of course, there is a subscription and the most basic cost for same is $9.99 per month. This is an absolute rip off. DO NOT BUY ARLO. Show details
Follow-up · Yes, there are hidden costs! A $10 per month fee to access the cloud where video is stored. Don't buy this video door bell if you don't want to pay the monthly subscription fee. Apparently EUFY video door bell does NOT have a monthly subscription fee. Try that.
Used to Be Great — Now Slower Than a Snail on Dial-Up I’ve had Arlo cameras for years, and once upon a time the doorbell actually worked instantly. Someone pressed the button, and my phone lit up right away. Then came the “updated” app. Now alerts take anywhere from 10 to 20 seconds to arrive. By the time my phone finally pings, the visitor’s… Read more
long gone and probably halfway down the street. It’s like watching a replay of real life — in slow motion.
Upgraded to the fancy VMB5000 base station thinking it would fix things. Nope. If anything, it’s slower. Is the signal being sent by carrier pigeon now.?
Tried asking support how to fix latency — the chat just froze. Maybe they’re also waiting for their response to load.
Arlo, you used to be brilliant. But if this delay keeps getting worse, customers will disappear faster than my delivery drivers.
Verdict: , hopeless lag. Used to love it, now it’s delayed doorbell.
Expensive rubbish – Imagine having to buy doorbell camera and doorbell chime separately. Imagine having to subscribe to have only 1 month of storage and deletes after 30 days and they keep putting prices up and your held at ransom because you own their cameras. Also sometimes it doesn’t work and people / vehicles can go in front of it and it doesn’t record. Not good quality camera or audio they can’t hear you well so people just walk off frustrated. Could be better – Bought the Arlo Doorbell because we have Arlo cameras and have been pretty happy with them. If you are thinking of doing the same, do your homework about compatibility if your cameras are a bit older. Turns out that only I can access all devices due to my App version (not updatable without deleting cameras). When pressed, the door bell calls the… Read more
account holders phone, there is a time lag while you answer the call before you can see who’s at the door. The sound and picture are good quality. In our case, when the main account holder is not home, other occupants are not alerted to someone being at the door necessitating the purchase separate plug in chime…an extra $53!
Avoid unless you like paying subscription fees – The doorbell works as well as a cheap wireless doorbell from Bunnings. Unless you are prepared to pay at least $12- $19 per month for a subscription. Without subscription you cannot record nor store video or screen shots. And as far as I can figure out cannot converse with anyone ringing the bell. The device will call up the phone but that… Read more
seems to be the limit ie a mobile chime.
We originally purchased the doorbell as it integrated into our arlo camera system. Just after purchase arlo informed our system has gone end of life! Not sure if one or 2 years left. The downside of buying a system where your only option for cloud storage is to use that provided by Arlo.
The search for a replacement system with standalone capability has begun. Eufy or Ring most likely so far ( limited research)
