Great for the first few months then the problems start – Bought a 4 stroke honda atom edger about 4.5 years ago. Was used commercially for large housing estates smaller blocks and unedged lawns. Within the first 6 months the handle on the left side snapped off and was told is not under warranty. Soon after the handle on the other side snapped off. So we held on to the stubs.after the second year the… Read more
rubbers holding the tubular frame in place have gone and the unit wobbles. However continued to use it. The throttle cable has broken the throttle valve on the motor now and is completely unusable. Summary: The japanese motor on the unit was excellent and still rums to this day.. the other 'aussie made' components sucked hard and makes me ashamed to be australian. Over 4 years the unit has literally fallen to pieces. Will probably upgrade to a stihl versatool
Parts unavailable – The atom edgers are ok but the middle range ones are not reliable and parts are no longer available i tried everywhere even NZ plastic mounting cover cracked could not repair so in the put it in the wizz bin only used on small yard used victa before and great thinking i would upgrade to more versatile type but it was a waste of money Show details
Doing the edges is a breeze – Having a large lawn and gardens there are a lot of edges to do the atom edger is the Rolls Royce of lawn edgers in my opinion it maybe a little load but all the other features I give a five star it is so comfortable to use and I can do the edges in half the time and leaves a clean cut as for being a little load I put on my am. fm. Earmuffs i would recommend the atom edger to anyone cheers happy gardening Show details
Honda Edger – Easy to use after 4 years years a new Coil and carb kit was required at $290 bit ritzy as it's a 4 stroke Honda. New blades are $40 which also a bit high. Hard on concrete edges but easy to use after about 4or 5 times Show details
atom 4 stroke edger – I am a contractor and this is my fourth one of these edgers. Good machine overall. Downsides are everyone of these edgers engine cover bolts vibrate out quickly and exhaust bolts continually vibrate off. Had my current one locktited up when I purchased it but they still vibrate out. If only atom would fix the problem. Made them aware of it but they did not seem to care. Thinking of trying the 2stroke mitsubishi model and see what happens.
Not happy :( – I have just brought a second hand atom pro it looks like new how ever when I used it the blade would stop spinning even at high revs, I first thought this was a clutch problem so I pulled it apart for a closer inspection and found there was no key way in the drive shaft that connects the blade to the drive gear, to me this could have been a great… Read more
machine if it were engineered correctly in the first place, this is not the case and I am not sure that I will do with it as it could be quite expensive to machine a key way into this shaft something that should have done before it went on sale in any country .
Atom edger – I have had 2 never again over priced serviced regular and only last 12 months used for small home yard ! They are easy to use but expensive to keep replacing
Lightweight, Reliable, Easy to use – After 12 months of regular use I felt ready to provide a reasonable review of this product. I have the Atom 450 full crankshaft version which comes with the enhanced rubberised handle bars. This seems a minor feature but when the unit runs at almost full throttle the vibration at the handles becomes uncomfortable – not too bad if you wear gloves,… Read more
but it is there and is undesirable. The rubberised handle bar absorbs most of the vibration when held at the right position.
The noise level is comparable to a two stroke unit of the same size. It is lightweight and can be easily lifted for storage and transport if required. The lightweight feature however becomes a minor setback when edging thick overgrown grasses. One needs to give it a full throttle (for longer) when cutting thick grasses to avoid the unit from being lifted up which then makes it difficult to attain that even edge finish. I’ve noticed that the bulky competitors use their sheer weight as ballast in this respect. This setback is minor and is compensated by the fact that the light wheelbarrow like handling allows the unit to easily negotiate curvy and hard to reach area which requires limited working space.
I have used the choke at start-ups which has resulted in no fuzz easy cranking with no foul ups. The unit feels sturdy and is built to withstand rugged use. The only major negatives perhaps is the air filter design which could easily be clogged up due to the limited filtering allowed by the small foam embedded inside the filter assembly. The turbo function is brilliant but I would prefer the Atom 430 air filter design where the bigger filter allows greater air intake and takes longer to clog up. Nevertheless, this issue could be addressed by more frequent maintenance of the filter. Australian built quality, portability and easy storage, ease of use Concerns with air filter assembly design, a bit pricey compared to other brands.
Works Ok – I have been using the electric model for 1 year now and getting used to it. It is heavy and awkward but does the trick. The result is not as neat as I would like it to be - something more like using a small plough to make an edge It has saved my back a bit It is heavy and awkward
Lovely results – My lawn edger is the atom 560 pro, with the honda 35cc motor, for contracting I would recommend this one as the engine is powerful enough and quiet, starts easily and doesn't use much fuel. The edges turn out surprisingly neat, and it's quite quick and easy, I usually edge along the concrete and paved footpaths and driveways, As a contractor I… Read more
do the edges with the atom lawn edger, than strim over the top quickly and them mow and blow, it doesn't take any longer as I can do a quick strim and it leaves a nice finish to the lawns, Ease of use, lightweight, neat edges, quiet efficient motor
Don't buy atom – The only good thing about the made in australia atom is the made in thailand 4 stroke engine. My edger out of warranty but only used at home has only been through one 5 litre fuel tin. But it now needs new clutch (blades spinning at idle). Also blade guard splitting along join; engine cover bolts vibrated off and lost; engine only runs with choke,… Read more
stalls easily. All in under 5 hours running time.I hope this review costs sales. good for the first 5 hours overpriced rubbish. store where purchased quoted $44 to diagnose fault.
Quality product – I looked for one secondhand, including the older 2 stroke models. I finally stumped-up for a brand new Honda model Atom and I've never looked back. Easy to setup (just select your cutting depth) and off you go. Honda engine is perfect as expected. I've used it for the last 10 months of contracting and it makes a nice impact. Works best on a… Read more
concrete edge but soft grass edges are good too, once you practice cutting straight lines! I've just bought my first set of blades for $17 (full retail) and I thought that was fine. Makes a big difference. Easy to use. Starts easily and cuts quickly. Seemed expensive at first, but I quickly forgot what I paid
Terrible – I bought one of these about 5 years ago- and I've been happy with it.... BUT last week the carburetor started leaking. I took it to the mower shop expecting to have to get some "bits and pieces" and a service. After a week they rang to say I needed a new carbie for $200. I agreed after being told there was no option. A few days later they… Read more
called back to say a new carburetor is not available from the manufacturer as "its an old model".
WTF? I've used this for 15 min 2 times a month for 5 years! ie it has done a total of maybe 30 hours work and it can't be repaired!!!!!
My only option was to buy a brand new unit for $449!
The mower shop recommended against this saying he had given his to his Dad and was forever having to strip the carbie down as it "gunked up"
How is this acceptable?- You would not have trouble getting parts for a a 5YO car! Thought I was doing the "right thing" buying Australian" HA! When it was working it did a good job! Poor parts availabilty. Can't be repaired! In terms of hours of use did not have an acceptable lifespan.

Know better, choose better.
Excellent – This edger is a total gem. It's extremely easy to use straight out of the box. Very economical on fuel, well built, tough & sturdy built machine with an excellent HONDA built engine. I would highly recommend the 4-stroke Atom Edger over the 2-stroke model. *easy to use *very quiet compared to a 2-stroke *extremely easy to start *very, very easy to maintain. *lightweight *blades are easy to replace There are no cons with this machine.
Good little machine, lightweight and gets the job done – Inam a lawnmowing contractor and have been using this model atom edger for about six years.they are a pretty reliable, little machine, makes the job of edging very quick. blades are a bit pricey at over $20 a pair, but they last a while. i like that the blades are only spinning when the accelerator is depressed. as this makes it easy to transport… Read more
from one edge to the next. i have one of the commercial 3 wheeltype edgers in the shed, but prefer to use this one. Lightweight, easy to use, honda engine, reliable easy to start. cuts a decent edge. Stone deflectors are plastic and i got sick of replacing them when they broke. so i dont use them. i have had the clutch replaced twice on the two machines ive had. i think the 35cc model is a better option as the 25cc is a bit gutless on heavy edges.would like to have seen a bit less plastic used and more metal as the bottom part of the edger is prone to wear, from being sand blasted.
Excellent – the delux atom edger has the Honda 4 stroke motor. Anyone that has any Honda power equipment would know the durablility and reliability of Honda engins. Very easy to maintain as to replacing oil, air filter and spark plug. The blades come off from one bolt that you unscrew and away you go. There is height adjustment, so as you wear away the… Read more
blade you lower the height. The unit its self is light weight, it has a reflective guard on the bottom, so you dont get durt all over you, and rubber handles so you dont feel the vibration. It also comes with a 2 year warranty so you cant go wrong. I had been looking into buying an edger for a while now, and you will find that most people say atom. One of the most easiest edgers to use. If you can lift and empty wheel barrow and push it, you can use this edger. Its light weight, durable, and has a 4 bladed system. Cant find any yet?
Excellent – These are great. They save you time when you have alot of edgeing to do. It is alot harder to make a mistake and take a chunk out ouf you lovely lawn with one of these compared to a whipper snipper or brush cutter. Maintenance is very easy. Basic engine maintenance and at the business end are two blade that will need replacing as needed and after… Read more
a couple of years constant use you will probably be up for a little rubber guard replacement too.
These do such a wonderful job on edges. I think most people would be more than satisfied with the great job these do. Very easy to manouver. Light weight to carry in one hand whilst transiting. The fourstroke is very quiet. There are no cons to this great bit of gear.
