My workhorse Overlocker! – I picked up my Babylock about 5 years ago and it hasn’t missed a beat. Yes it can be a bit fiddly to thread, but once it’s done it’s quite easy to swap threads.

Purchased in for $300.

Old, Fiddly to thread and to maintain – This overlocker is so hard to thread and to replace the needles, I have tried to re-thread many times without success and it is fiddly as, the tweezers come in good use. Also, replacing the globe is an obstacle also if you are wanting an overlocker save up more money and get a new Juki or another recommended brand. These machines are nearly thirty years old so overlockers have improved since then.

Purchased in at eBay for $100.

Im excited to use this – i just got a baby lock BL4 8398DF and just started using it and a needle broke. i accidentally hit a lever under the plate and a piece came flying out that has a red circle/silverstar on it and cant figure out where it came from. other than that i thought it was a very good serger. although it was a little slow but was satisfied with the quality of the stitching. very smooth slow

How much does it cost?

hi i also have one and can tell you that the piece that came flying out is more like a guide when sergering it can be keyed right back underneath the blade regulator. it has a small lever with which to pull it out by simply pressing the lever down. hope it helps you

Do you still need help? I just got one, and although difficult to thread initially, I have been able to figure it out- I also have the manual I could possibly scan for you.

Hi JCaddy87, My mum just got my one of these overlockers also without a manual. As I am new to overlocking I would love a copy of it.

How do you find your machine? Are you happy with it?

@BC2012 I will work on scanning a copy today or tomorrow for you. I am brand spanking new to serging and my machine is really old. I think it needs a service, but it works. If I had the money to, I would buy a new/newer one.

My wife has a BL4-838DF for about 20 years – This has been a great machine that my wife picked up in Germany through Strobel in South Germany. We have a manual that is in German and can make you a PDF if you like. You can send an email to nicola1608 at gmail dot com and she will make you a file and send it to you. We just broke the stitch regulator part so our machine is useless and we have no idea where to buy parts :( If you are wanting to dump your machine and get something else we could talk about buying your machine so we can make my wife's work again. Good machine for 20 years
