I applied for the card (I am on Disability Support Pension) in June 2021. After providing additional information requested regarding my assets, the card was approved for a generous limit. The staff processing the application were lovely, and very helpful. I was expecting to get knocked back but was pleasantly surprised to be approved. I’m an NDIS… Read more
Participant and use this card to pay for most purchases made on my plan. The QF points are just racking up nicely. I’ve had attempted fraud a couple times (apparently the scammers guessed the card details and fluked it once). Bank stopped it and prevented any loss. I even had an attempted fraud on Christmas Day(!) and the bank phoned me and stopped it. They got spooked by one of my allied health providers, but the transaction was legitimate and allowed it no problem once verified.
The purchase protection is very nice, too. I bought a product from a retail store and it failed promptly. The merchant refused to fix it, so the bank charged it back to the merchant. Saved a lot of stress.
I had trouble getting the card to add to Google Wallet on a new phone, so I went into the former Rockingham Branch and the staff looked into it in detail. The lady rang me back the next day, but I couldn’t answer. She left a voicemail with the outcome of their investigation and what needs to be done to get it working. I followed those instructions and voila(!) it worked! I rang her back later that day to thank her. It was a very nice touch. When an employee makes a real effort to assist, it makes a big difference and I feel should be acknowledged :)
The QF points were initially 0.75 per dollar, but this was lowered within the last year. It’s still not too bad, as I still earn tonnes of QF points each month just by paying for regular expenses with it.
Sneaky and profit focused – Alerted them about a scam website and payment for an item not received. First they refunded the money but them some months later added it back without any notification. They didn’t even visit or investigate the scam website/vendor (their own admission). Only concern was whether they could claim compensation from elsewhere. Probability low so charged back to me. Great card, easy application and no foreign transaction fees whilst still earning Qantas Points! – Excellent card overall. Very competitive Qantas Points earn and no foreign transaction fees. I look forward to using this card when travel opens up more. Application process was easy and the customer service reps where very polite and efficient. Show details
Not a very generous reward card for what you pay for and what you actually get – I am very disappointed with this card. You pay $160 upfront each year. Only get 0.75 on first 2,500 spent each month then it reduced to 0.20 after that amount each month. American Express has a similar product but with no annual fee and no monthly limit. Show details
Don't do cash – I was always hesitant to get a master card as I have always been a visa girl. Bankwest made it so easy though. It came as a package with my home loan, is super easy to manage on line with my other accounts and is accepted everywhere. Show details
Great All-Round Card for Overseas Travellers – The card has an annual fee of $160, it earns half a Qantas Frequent Flyer point per dollar spent on it, and has no foreign exchange fees, and has very good complimentary Travel Insurance through Allianz. So, if one goes overseas on vacation and spends $5333 on car hire, hotels and other things, the saving in foreign exchange fees typically… Read more
charged by other credit cards will pay for the annual fee of the card.
Also, if one goes on significant overseas trips and one spends $500 on the card for the trip, one gets complimentary Travel Insurance from Allianz, which will at least pay for the annual fee of the card, but more likley pay for the annual fee of the card many times over on long trips, relative to buying a policy direct from Allianz.
And if one spends $32,000 on the card on eligible purchases, one will get 16,000 Qantas points, which is equivalent to the annual fee of the card. Though one has to be a member of Qantas Frequent Flyers to get the points, and membership costs $89.50 to join. Or one can go and join Qantas cash, and get free membership to Qantas Frequent Flyers. The latter method is obviously the way to go.
I like Allianz travel insurance, as they paid us out twice last year without any problem on another card through which we had complimentary Travel Insurance, with the same type policy. Also, for an additional premium, Allianz cover people with various pre-existing medical conditions that other complimentary credit card travel insurers reject.
So for people who do a significant bit of overseas vacationing in any year, this card should really be given some consideration. It covers all bases.
Regards.
Bankwest scores own goal! – By reducing the credit period from 55 days to 44 and by reducing Qantas points from .75 per dollar to .5 on this card. Sadly coming back to the field as the Woolworths Qantas card did when it doubled the cost of the card and halved the point value last year.
Excellent credit card – This is an excellent credit card from the best Bank in Australia. It has a very good 0.75 Qantas frequent flyer points per dollar spent with no cap, it has free travel insurance and it has no foreign transaction fees, which is great for both online shopping and shopping overseas when traveling. But the best thing about this Bankwest card is… Read more
