perfect sewing machine for classes – I purchased this machine to use at classes as my original Bernina 1260 is 25 years old and is very heavy to carry. The 215 does everything I expected it to do, perfect stitches, easy to change stitches with keypad and best of all the bobbin is the same size as the 1260 so I didn't need to rush out and buy more bobbins. Excellent with some reservations – This was recommended after my Janome 5124 which I'd had for over 15 years, started to slow down. The Bernina 215 sews beautifully and it is very easy to change stitches. front so I am constantly lifting it to sew over extra thicknesses of fabric, for example I make bags from recycled fabrics and it's slower sewing on the handles when I have to lift the foot 4 times per bag. The needle threader is fiddly and I find it difficult to use, hardly ever do it first time. My old Janome was so easy and quick, could almost do it with my eyes closed. The metal bobbin is placed in a metal case and inserted vertically. I find this very fiddly too. But little cutting blades at the bobbin insert and at the bobbin winder are thoughtful additions. Winding bobbin is easy and efficient. I had to buy a better quality thread as I found my old standard generic threads don't work at all in this machine. So that's an added expense.

Overall I like this machine and I am slowly getting used to the fiddly bits.

Can highly recommend this machine – Great little machine. Clean, compact & user friendly. This is my first machine and it has been wonderful to learn on. My Simply Red B215 has been trouble-free while I've put it to work piecing blocks, sewing pot holders, hemming cotton and knit fabrics, and adding binding to quilts.

For me, simple is often more enjoyable. In the case of my sewing computer/machine, it certainly is.
