Birdies Short Heritage Elevated Planter HERPLA110405
VerifiedMPN: HERPLA1104051 review
Was hoping for better quality – I bought my planter with a voucher given to me as a birthday gift and was so excited when it came to unboxing. It looked gorgeous on the box, stated it was sturdy, supposedly quality wood and easy to assemble. It does slot together very easily (but do make sure you either assemble it in place, or place on cardboard to move it, otherwise it’s a two person lift). There is nothing keeping the wood slats together except let slots and gravity. You literally have to grab it by the legs on both sides to move. My gripe is the cracks, straight up the middle of three legs!!!! Not what I’d expect for a weight bearing planter. It would have been nice to have caps for the leg tops. I’ve put a protective stain on it in the hope the weather doesn’t make them worse, but only time will tell. I intended getting a matching one for the other side of my porch and really hope it isn’t more of the same…….

Update post 9 months in: I used this to grow tomatoes over Spring-Summer. The planter placed in an area that received 8 hours sunlight. I grew them in plastic pots placed inside as you can’t pour soil directly in to this planter (there are gaps at each end of the base and soil will fall through), it was also a safer option given I had to weatherproof it because of the splits. It’s made it through the extreme Adelaide dry summer and is now being put through its paces with the wet. Did it hold up? Yes, did I get anymore cracks? Very fine, along the side. One of the knots in the wood is starting to bulge out. The corrugated pieces that make up the base held the weight of the plants well. That being said I found it more of a decorative planter than functional, if that’s your thing then ok. Was it worth the asking price for me? No, it was cheaper for me to build my own raised bed, rather than buying a new one. For that reason I think it’s worth a two star review. I do regret buying it and will not buy another.
