Don't buy this if you have pets who shed a lot – We have had the same Dyson upright for 16 years but eventually, it stopped working so it was time to buy something new. We looked at lot of options out but this one seemed the easiest to handle when we tried it out in the shop but unfortunately once we got it home and used it for a few weeks we realized that it was a poor choice. It is heavy, has… Read more

poor suction and can not cope with pet hair. We realized quite how terrible it was at picking up dirt and hair when I purchased a Shark Cordless Pro with Clean Sense IQ and vacuumed the same carpet that I had just cleaned with the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser 2454F. The amount of dirt and pet hair that was picked up off an apparently clean carpet was shocking. Our model also stinks of rubber when its operating.

High-Vis & High Performance – I’ve had a Dyson V11 stick vacuum since May 2020 and for the last 12 months Dyson have been unable to supply genuine replacement cylinders. For a $1200+ purchase this is ridiculous. Sick of the poor quality knock-offs spare parts from China I decided it was a heavenly sign to buy a new vacuum. I have both wood and carpet floors and 2 cats. So,… Read more

after considerable research I decided to buy a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo.

You’ve gotta love the name and being lime green and purple, you’re not going to have trouble finding this baby in the back of your cupboard. Well the high-vis colours are a fitting match to this vacuum cleaners performance. I thought my Dyson was good, but my new Bissell is in a league of its own. However, it’s not without its drawbacks.

Here’s what I can report.

Wattage – At 850W its not a leader in it’s class but this is more than sufficient when you engage the brush/roller button for carpets and ‘pet turbo eraser’ tool.

Edge-to-Edge Suction – that’s a no and that goes back to the 850W motor. This vacuum is frustratingly bad to use on hard floors.

Headlights – other than being cool, I found this to be of no advantage and I can't say I know anyone who vacuums in the dark.

Tangle Free Brush Roll – does exactly as promised and prevents hair wrapping around and jamming the rollers.

Cyclonic Pet Hair Spooling System – big tick on this feature as well as it does spools pet hair into balls

SmartSeal Allergen System – I would say yes to the trapping dust and allergens but can’t evaluate on eliminating odours.

Quick Release Extension Wand – Yes it does have a quick release but the same applies to the competitors. However, the wand is awkward and not easy to use and the tube is extremely tightly coiled so has limited reach and the vacuum tips over.

They boast it is lightweight and agile – after trying to vacuum a flight of carpeted stairs I would question this claim.

This machine retails for $399 but shop around as I did and you can get it for $299 on special. Overall, I give it a 3.5 out of 5. As that's not possible here - i'll be generous and raise it to 4 out of 5.

Bissell 2454F. Great for dog hair – I don't seem to have experienced problems other reviewers have had. I've had the machine for a little over two months. Firstly I'm an elderly male user. The machine was bought to pick up hair from my Golden Retriever who seems to never stop shedding. I have mainly carpet and few hard floors. The machine is heavy and noisy. It isn't that good for… Read more

hard floors. It is not that easy to use when using the attachments. It is fiddly to clean properly as this involves dismantling the dirt tank. ( I probably do this every fortnight or so when I change the filters). However I bought it to pick up dog hair and it does the job perfectly. I use it about 3 or 4 times a week and find it does the job very quickly. I am constantly amazed at how much hair and dirt is in the tank. I have two good quality robot vacuums that I no longer use. So I certainly concede the machine has limitations. But I bought it to clean carpet and pick up dog hair and so far it does this exceedingly well. Would I buy it again. Most definitely, particularly as it only cost me $299 from Catch, including delivery

Cheap in everything except price – Poor design. Brush endcaps which are supposed to hold brush shaft are plastic and thin walled lacking any strength. The torque of the spinning brush on carpet is too strong which results in the endcaps failing progressively. This allows the brush to move and friction on the plastic housings of the felt bearings in the headpiece, resulting in… Read more

melted bearing mounts creating excessive slop, which in turn accelerates the end cap wear. Basically just a cascading series of fail points due entirely to cheap manufacturing and even cheaper design. This failure occurred in just over 6 months of use in a modest sized home. For a price as high as this the quality is abysmal. Do not recommend.

Ordinary. Won't buy again – I have always used Shark uprights and loved them. When my last Shark died, I asked around and was told Bissell was the way to go. Wrong! It's bulky, heavy, difficult to manoeuvre and I actually find the design really flawed. Yes the brush is powerful, but the piece of plastic in the middle means that you have to swipe several times in the same… Read more

spot to collect everything. I also find the power brush needs cleaning out way too often as the dirt and hair collects in the sides and starts dumping everything back out on the floor. After about 18 months of persisting with this vacuum, im going back to Shark!

Worst piece of garbage I've ever bought – This vacuum is garbage. Literally. It does not suck up anything off hard wood floors or tile and barely works on carpet. The handheld pet attachment also doesn't work and why on earth wouldn't they keep a storage peg on the vacuum itself?! Every other attachment has one except that one. The carpet roller on the main unit certainly moves with… Read more

ferocity but all it does is kick up loads of dust which you can see floating around as you vacuum. And as for any pet hair? Sure, it doesn't get caught in the roller, because the suction doesn't work, so the roller just turns it into a clump and when you lift the vacuum, it spits out wads of dirt, fur and debris. It has been like this since day one. I have tried taking the whole thing apart, have cleaned out every nook and cranny. This thing is completely useless. How is this even allowed to be on the market? I tried contacting the retailer and supplier, was given a run around, which I can't handle. I'm so sick of complaints over garbage products not being managed properly. Do not buy this utter piece of trash.

A great machine. Pleasure to use – Purchased two weeks ago and have been amazed at how well this machine has performed. Used on carpet only so far and it has brought up so much fine grit I would never have thought was in the carpet. Carpet looks better, especially in the tracking areas, and has come up feeling softer. Easy to use, empty and clean filters. Would highly recommend this product. A joy to vacuum the house. Show details

Had nothing but problems – Clogs up very easily only had it 12 months using it in a 2 bedroom unit so not a lot of ground to cover. Recently it stopped working so I looked for blockages and nothing. Cleaned filters still not working. Called the place I purchased to get a new filter in case that was the issue they dont sell it had to go to bissell no luck there either none… Read more

Alright – Good suction, wide head, turbo head is good it does make pushing easier, it feels like it pulls it forward when head is turned on which is another good function to turn on and off. Love the led lights. A little bulky but ok. Only used it once so I'll keep you posted of performance and reliability. Sticker was $399 retail at Harvey Norman and only paid $369 Show details

It's ok – I've always owned the Shark brand of vacuum. When I moved to australia we purchased this Bissell brand as the sales people said it was one of the best and would workout cheaper if we needed parts etc. First thought, it's alot more plastic than the Shark and doesn't feel as "fancy". Controlling it is difficult, very bulky and difficult to… Read more

manoeuver at times. The base and hose don't disattach from it either like the shark so vacuuming the car is difficult.

Had to return our first one within 3 months as the turbo head stopped working, without the turbo head suction is useless. Got a complete replacement from Godfreys, then 1 month later the replacement one wasn't sucking and had a burning smell to it. Turns out the hose was blocked at the bottom with a piece of paper I had vacummed up and the burning smell was in the turbo head foot as two pieces of rubber were rubbing together. I rang Godfreys for a refund as I'm over it, and would prefer a Shark again but they said I was past the store warrantry period for refunds. But then the smell sorted itself out and stopped.

Took it all apart to clean it again a few weeks ago as burning smell came back and have noticed that in the turbo foot the plastic as worn/melted on the sides of the brushes (where it spins).

Due to the covid I haven't followed this up further.
