Works for small rooms, cheap carpet cleaner..don't waste your money, used 8 times and blew up – Took it part after motor blew up and found all parts are cheap and nasty. Plastic covers over the motor along with the wiring and connectors. The motor and its insulation's were just falling apart, very poor, so if I was you, stay away from Bissell, that's what I am doing. Leaks and leaves a mess on carpet sometimes. I used soap and… Read more
water and not Bissell products, same result, even washing powder/liquid works well.
Must work because it makes a lot of noise, far too noisy I reckon.
Not really for large areas, maybe just small bedrooms.
It's just a small suction machine with a twirling brush and you have to flood the carpet to get a good result.
Pain in the rear to empty the small collection container, larger one would be better, and the supply container too small, but it's not a large machine anyway.
it does the job you would expect from a cheap carpet cleaner, maybe spend another $200 or so and buy a better one, not Bissell though, I wouldn't.
Footnote: Try using normal water in the water tank, still cleans the carpet if its just dirty, even some pineoclean in the water works well.
There's a new Bissell advertised on TV(2016) by the inventor a lady, looks good, so does the price, over $500(AU), there's other models that are better for the price.Stay away from this one also.
Final comment is that these are useless and overpriced for what they do..Stay away from them, I used it 8 times, was hoping to get to 10, and motor blew up, used it as directed, use their expensive formula and all...it was noisy for such a small machine, but it just started grinding and all, then burnt out, horrible smell and hot around motor, maybe a recall is needed.
Waste of money, buy a cheap one that does the same job.
Stay away from Bissell, you have been told.
Bissell Pet Wash Carpet Shampooer – I bought this a year ago when my cat was going through a “I think I’ll just come inside and be sick on the carpet” phase. Then, in the annoying way cats have, it stopped doing that so it has been sitting around not doing much until this weekend. When it was me, not the cat, who traipsed mulberry juice from my shoes all over my nearly new carpet. … Read more
Oh the horror! Generally, the only way to get mulberry stains out of clothes is to cut them out with scissors! But the Bissell came to the rescue and there are no stains left at all. In one hour it paid for itself. 3 rooms and a hallway I am guessing would cost about $250 if I got a carpet cleaner in and the Bissell was less than $300. I like the way you can target just the stains, which means there doesn’t have to be a great shifting of furniture.
Also, the guy who sold it to me at Harvey Norman gave me a tip, saying that when he has gone over the carpet with carpet cleaner he lets it dry and then goes over it again with clean water. I will do that in a couple of days, now that the panic has subsided. Gets out mulberry juice stains (amazing)
Great gadget! – We were having our house painted and needed to get rid of the traffic grime, sanding dust, and a general freshen up while the furniture was all moved. My carpet is a plush cut plain colour wool and nylon which has gotten a bit trampled over 14 years of use. Rather than get someone in, I decided to buy the Pet Wash, it wasn't much more $$ than… Read more · 1
having someone do it. First room done - I was absolhorrified at the water colour. It was dry within one hour, so I could move the furniture and do the other side of the room. Average bedroom took 3 tanks of water, and about 30 minutes to do - though I probably was slower than I needed to be. These rooms hadn't been done for a long time, so I expected the dirt. What I wasn't ready for was the amount of grime it picked up from the other carpets which had been steam cleaned 8 months previously. We have a dyson vac, so they are pretty well vacuumed on a regular basis.
Four bedrooms, family, lounge, dining and study carpets were done for only a little more than it cost to have a professional do the lounge/family/study. Every room was dry in max 3 hours. Professional jobs usually take 12-14 hours - granted, they probably clean a bit deeper, but I'm still really impressed with the job this machine did. My son and his wife have now used it as well and were so happy with the results. My carpets were left soft and smelling nice, stains needed a bit more attention, but the difference is remarkable.
I was able to buy more shampoo at our local vacuum shop at a reasonable price; however the machine came with 2 small bottles of "pet stain/odour" wash; 2 small bottles of hard floor cleaner and a large spray bottle of spot cleaner. It also has a hard floor attachment. Not very impressed with the job this did, it left the tiled floor very wet and took ages to dry.
As with some other comments here - it was a bit fiddly to empty and clean. It's amazing the amount of fluff and grime it catches even after a thorough vac. It has a lot of nooks and crannies in the dirty water reservoir, so just be sure to rinse it out thoroughly. I would have liked to see a larger reservoir for both clean and dirty water. If you move it back and forward too quckly as you reach the end of the clean water supply, you may find the dirty water froths and spits out the vent holes. Solution to that is dont completely fill to the line, or move slowly. No big drama.
Absolutely recommend this machine! The shops are trying to sell a more updated version for about $329, but they told me the only difference was a folding handle so it could be stored more easily. I wouldn't bother, if you are able to find this little gem. price; easy to use, results needs refilling fairly quickly; hard floor cleaner not great.

The newer model is better – The new grey coloured one that I have has a couple of design changes, in the clean water bottle it is flat on the top so when you fill it you can stand it up without holding it. The handle is adjustable so you can push it down to fit into small spaces when storing. Other than that it is the same.
Remarkable – I have had this little beauty for over 7+ years, and I can still say it still works as the day I brought it.(use it 4 times a year) Read the instruction, clean the brushes every time you finish using, and store it properly when not in use.and it will serve you well. There is no hassle in filling it. their is a grip in the bottle.I use hot water, and… Read more

does what it says – Purchased instead of getting carpets cleaner or hiring a cleaner from Bunnings. I have use it in most of the rooms in the house so far at my leisure with no problems, Uses approximately one tank per room and filling and emptying is easy. leave carpets clean and only a little damp (dried in about 4hours on a dry 20degree day) . Works well but doesn't last very long – I have had two of these cleaners. Used only for mats and once for tiles. does a great job but unfortunately neither has lasted very long, while it may have been purchased some years ago, given the amount use, not value for money. I have followed instructions fully and will not buy another.
Bissell nightmare of poor reliability and flawed design – Our Bissell is still under warranty. It has been used to clean the carpets 3 times. Average performance. Does leave carpets reasonably dry after use. Easier than hiring a proper, robust machine from the supermarket. However: . Filling the hard to hold water bottle up with water and shampoo is difficult. the bottle is curved for style sake… Read more
and does not stand upright on its own. When filling, your hands can get wet, and the process is awkward. If you put the shampoo in last to reduce excess foaming, one fumbles trying to keep the bottle upright while reaching for the shampoo bottle. Putting the valve assembly on the bottle is awkward too. because, for style sake, the bottle will not stand up on its own due to its curved shape. Even holding the bottle and fitting it in the machine is awkward. Mainly because, due to the shape of the bottle, it tends to slip from one's hand.
Important mechanical valve control components within the machine are very very very very very - extremely - weak. Seemingly designed deliberately to fail. Dont know why but components within our machine failed inside the warranty period. There is a plastic part in the water release mechanism which breaks. The first time it happened to me, it was early Nov 2013 as I was starting the Christmas cleanup. Water just ran straight of the machine when the bottle was refilled. I rang Bissell who gave me the third degree but who eventually believed me when I said the machine was stuffed and needed fixing or else I was going to consumer affairs. Instead of letting me drop it off at Godfreys, they sent a courier to truck it back to the interstate factory. It came back this week, with no attempt to contact me advising to stay home waiting for the courier - who is based miles away from me. So I started preparing for Christmas with time running out . 16 Dec 2013 I got it back.
I recommenced the Christmas cleanup. After shampooing one carpet, I moved to the next.
The machine once again started to release all the water at once when the bottle was refilled and replaced into the machine. I am about to ring Bissell and ask for my money back as this machine is an engineering and functional lemon, streamlined water bottles are not substitute for proper design.
Do not buy this machine. It's reliability, standard of engineering,. quality of construction materials, ergonomics, ease of use are all horrific and time wasting. It looks good in the shops.
Bissell need to completely re engineer the water bottle so that humans find it easy to hold, refill and replace into machine. Bissell need to radically improve the quality of the engineering and materials in the valve control mechanism. The machine is a time wasting, frustrating, anger provoking waste of time, effort and money. This house will never ever have another Bissell in it. Manufacturers disrespect the effort required in earning a wage when they put feeble rubbish like this on the market. It is a lemon.
The lemon status is compounded by the fact that there is no local repair. Each time it breaks down, a courier comes and picks the Bissell up and trucks it interstate. The same thing happens on return. The courier companies never ring to give a estimated date of delivery. Last time the invoice shows the machine was allegedly fixed on 6 Dec 13 .
Next time I wont buy a product that has to go back to the factory interstate. No local repair, no purchase.
Bissell? Never again.
It is now December 21, and there has been no response from Bissell. I have sent numerous emails and left phone messages with them. My next step is to seek redress under state consumer law. The colour It is a lemon both legally and in the common sense of the word
Spreads stains – I bought this after much consideration as I have three small children with fawn carpet in a farm rental and the thought of the cost of professional cleaning in a five bedroom house scared me. on the tougher stains and I thought all was pretty good until it dried. It has spread the satins further across the room and looks absolutely disgusting, it was than before I started. It is a nightmare.
I am sure I will have to do some more cleaning on the floor but think in hindsight it may have been better to get a professional to do the floors.Thinking it may be a good device to dye the floor.
Made stains worse and spread them across whole floor
I would like to echo what Anna has mentioned above.Worst nightmare of a machine, waste of money!

When things go wrong – I bought my pet wash many years ago. It has been a great product. Then when it did go wrong it was difficult to find someone in W.A. that knew enough about them to fix it. Three week later it came back. It still works, but have lost confidence after its earlier failure, when it returned all the dirty water onto a white carpet. Now one of the seals… Read more

Easy to use, does great job – I have arthritis but I find the Bissell Powerbrush Pet, easy to use. It gets used often for puppy and grandchildren spills and accidents, as well as shampooing my carpets every 4 months. Does a good job and lasts – I bought one of these carpet shampoo machines about 5 years ago and have been very happy with it. When I first bought the machine, I was unsure how good a job it would do but was really surprised to find out just how… Read more
well it cleans. We used to rent a house from friends and there was carpet from the front door, around the base of the stairwell and adjoining the kitchen tiled area. It was an area that got a lot of traffic. One of the first few times I cleaned the carpet, I didn't have time to do the whole lot at once and had to stop half-way. Initially, it was hard to tell how much of a difference the machine had made but the next day when the carpet had dried, I could see a very distinct line where I had cleaned - the clean carpet was a blue/grey colour and the other area was a noticeable brown shade! I was pretty grossed out to think we had been living with such filthy carpet - and especially with a newborn daughter in the house! After that, I cleaned the carpet fairly regularly and it got better and better every time. I also found the same result recently when I shampooed some door mats which were pretty dirty. They are offcuts from our bedroom carpet so I was able to compare them before and after and was very impressed. The carpet is actually a dark grey colour but the doormats had become brown with dirt and I honestly didn't expect them to clean up very well but they look like new again.
I did try to use the machine on hard floors once but thought it was a waste of time, leaving too much water and not actually doing much cleaning, but that didn't bother me as I had really bought the machine to clean carpets.
A few years ago it started leaking solution and I worked out that it needed a new rubber o-ring on the water tank so I picked one up at a local place that sells that sort of thing and it fixed the problem (can't remember how much the new ring cost, would only have been a couple of dollars).
I did work out that there is a knack to cleaning the carpets - I think you have to press the spray trigger as you move the machine forwards and then release as you pull the machine back. Because it sucks continuously, if you do it the other way, the water comes out the spray nozzles and is sucked up straight away without really doing its job on the carpet. I can't really remember which way around it goes but I figure it out pretty quick each time I start doing the carpets again.
Overall, I'm very happy with this machine and if it ever dies, I would probably go and buy the same one again. It actually cleans carpet! Better than I would have expected. Doesn't work well for hard floors.
Great for picking up long dog hairs – I bought this cleaner about 5 months ago to clean up after a wolfhound who loves to carpet surf. buying this product. At first was considering a steam vac, but then kinda noticed that vacuum shampooers and steam vacs are almost the same. Both are hot water extraction methods, and this bissell looked reasonably affordable. Right after the purchase, I tested it and couldn't t stop. Delightful to see all that dirty water coming off, it was black!! Absolutely disgusting (not a surprise), but what a good feeling to know the carpet was getting cleaner. I passed the machine over and over again on the same areas until water came clear. I was impressed with the suction power of this machine, the carpet was not soaking wet afterwards, only damp, so I was glad about it, and they look soft again and pleasant to walk on. The tanks are a bit small, so you gotta keep re filling/emptying them, but this is expected, otherwise it wouldn't be an easy and light machine. The real down side for me is that the dirty tank and the rotating brush are really hard to clean. You have to find your ways to clean them, with special tools. Overall, I loved the machine and the result. Feels like professional cleaning, and you can rinse off the chemicals afterwards with a second wash for peace of mind. Affordable, efficient, easy Brush and dirty eater tank are very hard to clean
Indespensible for this owner of two dogs – Since 1995, I've had a Bissell Big Green Clean Machine (canister tank and wand style cleaner). It does a reasonable job on carpets, but it's a big, clunky thing to use and store - just not practical for those "little accidents" that sometimes happen with pets. So we went looking for something a bit smaller, that we could actually store in the… Read more · 1
house (as opposed to the other machine, which resides in the shed at the rear of the yard). At Harvey Norman one day, we saw the PetWash and grabbed it.
I've found it a very handy device, as I can keep it in the laundry cupboard loaded with the shampoo mix, ready to go in case of emergency. All I need to do is plug it in and voila! Now, the sound of a retching dog no longer strikes terror into my heart, as I don't have to go out to the shed in the cold or wet to get the Big machine.
I never thought of this machine for general carpet cleaning, nor do I expect it to do what commercial-quality machines do (in terms of water extraction). It does a reasonable job of sucking dirty water out. It is what it is. I bought it, more or less for spot cleaning, and for that, it's great. I have used it a few times to do a room when I didn't want to go outside to lug the other machine in, but the tanks are small and that means lots of trips to the laundry to refill and empty. It still did OK, evidenced by the cleaner-looking carpet, and the filthy-looking water in the dirty water tank. But I wouldn't use it on large carpets too often as it's not practical.
The PetWash comes with a hard-floor cleaning head, and solution. I used it on the floors in the kitchen/family area and it did a good job. However, again, the small tanks are an issue as the area is on the larger side. Also, it tends to leave the floors fairly wet, which, when I can't leave the outside doors open, means a fairly long drying time. Still, I use it for that occasionally because I'd rather suck the dirty water up than use a mop and bucket and simply spread the dirt around (yes, I do change the bucket water frequently, but still, it's impractical to change it for every square metre).
I don't find it hard to clean the unit. I suppose a lot of people expect machines to work on endlessly with no looking after (which explains why so many lawnmowers out there are in such a woeful state!). Just like any floor cleaning appliance, you can't let debris build up on the brush or in the head.
Before this machine, I'd tried a cordless Bissell hand-held spot cleaning machine, and it was an absolute hunk of junk. So I thought my only option would be a big, clunky machine. Happily, that turned out not to be the case.
Overall, we're happy with this machine. It makes it much easier to have pets (and kids!). Small and handy

than one room we would probably have brought the bigger model even though it was twice the price. Even now am thinking that the sofa attachment may have been worth it. Affordable 'self serve' option to getting your carpets proffessionally cleaned. Leaves a nice fresh smell after cleaning. Works a dream on wet spills like milk, juice & dare I admit it but wee. Not so good on more solid marks like fruit or jam, but the pre spray & a bit of hand scrub sorts that out. Its a great reassuarence to see the dirty water collecting. If you take a corner to quickly or tip the cleaner you can spill the dirty water out of the vents. The head is a bit tricky to clean out...I tend to use the hose outside and even then there are nooks and crannys inside that I cant reach.

sample bottles of solution (2 hard floor and 2 carpet) and a spray bottle of pre-treater stain remover for really tough stains.
I shopped around and found plenty on E-bay for around the $240 mark but ended up going to The Good Guys and getting them down to $250 even from their $299 ticket price. So for the convenience of not having to wait for it and the risk of damage or DOA in the post, I went the good guys option.
The machine is easy to clean and picks up heaps of crap that you would never have though lives below the carper fibres. After cleaning the carpet was a little damp but no more than you would expect from a professional clean. It is great for small areas and high traffic parts of your carpet, but if you wanted to clean a whole room it could take a little while. It is marketed as a "petwash" but this is just the description of the brush inside and would suit anyone.
I found it was best to use hot water from the tap as this model doesn't heat its own water like the more expensive models. If I had an extra $200 I would have gone for the bigger model with upholstery attachments, however I am happy with this one for the price. After a few uses it has well and truly paid for itself.
The water tanks could have been a bit bigger to allow for more use between changes but this is just a nicety not a necessity.
Overall as for a machine of this price it does a really great job. Good price $250 even from The Good Guys, they will tell you $287 but they can do $250 so push them, Easy to use, lightweight, does a really good job! Could be wider for more coverage (the more expensive bissell models are a little wider), water tanks could be bigger to allow for longer stints between changes.
Great product well worth buying to save $$ on professional cleaning – I really don't get what some people are saying about this machine. Hard to clean out tank and brush? and ALL the rubbish comes out. Job done! As for the brushes, that goes with the territory for any vacuum cleaner with rotating brushes. It is not hard to do and only takes a couple of minutes. Easy to use (if you're not very savvy with assembling things then you might need a hand when you get it home because it's in a couple of pieces, but it's dead set easy and only takes a couple of minutes). Does the job very well. If you're looking to do a lot of carpet cleaning with it (i.e. several large areas) you might… Read more
want to look at spending more and getting a bigger unit otherwise it'll take you hours to get a big job done! Cost - Got it for $330 from Godfrey's. Much cheaper than a lot of other carpet cleaners around.
Does a great job - I only did a small patch of carpet around where my dog's bed is; and I filled the tank up 3 times with clean water, and each time it cleaned the carpet it just kept on pulling out brown water and dog hair! Very impressed with how well it cleans! The carpet feels a lot nicer to walk on now too...it's sort of re-fluffed the carpet.
Easy to use - very simple operation! Just put the cleaning solution (2 trial bottles included with the machine)into the fill bottle at the top, then fill it with hot tap water, plug it in and away you go. Emptying is easy too, just un-clip the bottom tank and tip it out. It's only small - the down side to buying a cheaper version of the big machines is that it's small. It still cleans just as well, but I wouldn't want to be cleaning large areas of carpet, because it'll take you a while. It's really good for only doing a couple of square meters at a time, or if you need to do a quick clean up (like after a puppy has had an accident on the rug! Or even if someone spills something at a party).
The dirty water collection tank will take a couple of minutes to clean out when you're finished...it's just a little bit fiddly and there are a few nooks where dirt or pet hair get caught that will need to be rised out.
No upholstery attachment - it'd be nice if it had one, but again, for the price you can't complain; you'd have to shell out more than double the price to get a Bissell ProHeat with an upholstery attachment.
Very Impressed – Bought online and delivered with extra cleaning products for $262. I vacuumed my carpets really well before shampooing and I am surprised at how much more pet hair and grit the cleaner has managed to remove. Very easy to use and to fill and empty the water tanks. Hard to clean the inside of the roller casing as it doesn't separate. I did manage to wipe with a foam brush on a stick.
