Choice was right - This time – Choice magazine rated this machine very highly so I bought one albeit I already had 2 other far more costly machines I was so impressed with this machine I bought another as a spare and to get past the mentioned draw back of small tanks as I now have 2 sets BUT KEEP THE INSTRUCTIONS - I did not and bought a 3rd… Read more ·  1

machine when one stopped working

I removed ALL screws and pulled it all apart as much as I could - Could not find a fault but wanted a backup so put it all together until I had more time New on came and on last page of instructions I found out how to check the belt - Belt was twisted off end back drive along shaft - Just pushed it back shaft and it ran OK Reckon what got it out of line was me twisting the machine handle sideways instead of just back and forward (I am 85 and had to sit on a walker to work and twisting it to change direction) - IGNORE CHUBBY CHECKER do not twist Anyway I am happy to have 3 of these- Albeit at $292 this time - This machine is excellent

2 dogs and 2 dirty rugs – I have two dogs and over time they had stained and dirtied two rugs. Previously I would call a steam cleaner or just buy new rugs. This gets costly, so after a little bit of online research, i bought this carpet cleaner and also the pet stain and odor solution. The result? Quite impressed. If the machine continues to function as well as it did today, I think it's well worth the money. Show details

Bissell 2889f Powerclean damages wool carpet – This carpet cleaner destroyed part of our berber wool carpet. An inspection by a carpet specialist shows the machine brushes ripped the layers of carpet from its base. There was no warning on the box or from the retailer. Bissell admitted it can damage wool carpet. Bissell refused to inspect the damage or have the damage fixed. The retailer immediatley told to have the machine returned and refunded. So no help from bissell in any way. Show details

Powerful and solid cleaner – Bought to replace a Hoover branded unit that malfunctioned (which I unfortunately bought from Godfrey’s who then went under…), whose dirty water tank sensor failed so the dirty water tank over-fills and then leaks. I’m a bit of a Bissell diehard now. The Bissell is a similar size and weight to the Hoover unit I had but it feels better quality,… Read more

and it’s easier to take apart and clean than the Hoover was.

The only thing that I don’t love is the power switch. The Hoover had a foot switch to power the unit on/off. The Bissell requires you to press the power switch which is located very low down on the unit so if you struggle with bending down turning it on/off can be a bit of a pain point. It’s also funny because all my other cleaning appliances (vacuum, steam mop and spot cleaner) are all Bissell and they’re all great - the vacuum has a foot switch but this, a similar size and form factor; does not!

Results speak for themselves.

If you have a large area to clean be prepared to have to empty the dirty water water tank a few times and if you have some stubborn stains you may need to refill the clean water tank a few times. I do feel that the dirty tank could probably accept more than it does before the sensor kicks in and decides it’s full which cuts the suction, but, it’s a minor thing really.

Great carpet cleaning machine, very impressed – Very impressed with this Bissell 2889F carpet cleaner. Easy to use and the dirty water shows just how much dirt and grime is being lifted out of the carpet. It’s easy to clean the machine afterwards and it also removes pet fur easily. The only negative is that it does use the water and solution quickly so now I use a little less of the solution… Read more

and top up the water tank to make it last longer, it still works just as well with less foam too. Highly recommended and it's a good price too.

From excellent to rubbish – I originally reviewed this machine very positively, but14 months after buying this machine, the motor has given up! I have searched everywhere for the receipt, but unfortunately can't find it, so I'm unable to return it. Anyway, I now own a Hoover power scrub XL. I THOUGHT the Bissell was working well, but turns out my Hoover is picking up so much dirt that the Bissell left behind. Thumbs down for Bissell. Show details

Great Product – So pleased with the ease and results with this carpet cleaner. The best part is how easy it is to clean and use. I previously had a cheap cleaner which I thought did a great job, this is another level though and value for money. Show details

Good performer with good and not so good features – This cleaner replaces a previous model that unfortunately did not last too long but just past warranty unfortunately. I hope this one will stand the test of time. A smaller car cleaner made by Bissell I owned also failed and had to be replaced under warranty after only 2 uses so my history is not great with this brand. I shopped around for a… Read more

reasonable price and most of the retail outlets wanted me to pay full recommended price, which I never do. Most varied from $399 to $319 but I scored one locally for $299. So off to a good start. Packaging was basic but solid and the item came dismantled but very easy to put together. It also came with a sample cleaning Formula which did over half my house. The instruction book is a good size and very basic but covers everything you need to know. Within 10 minutes I had it assembled. This model has grab handles for both the clean water tank and the dirty water tank which I really liked as I have a shocking back disability and any bending is hard for me. The length of the cord is absolutely perfect. I can do whole rooms and its absolutely the correct length. Again, re locating the plug for me is a hard task and this is well thought out. Picking up the appliance it feels very light and definitely very 'plasticky.' Once I pulled my old cleaner apart I noticed that it was very lightweight and one of the reasons it died was due to plastic fan blade failure of the foot motor along with what I suspect was a failure of the diaphragm as it would not retrieve the water only send it out. I noticed then how much plastic was in this item. I hope this doesn't suffer the same fate as this is my last purchase of a Bissell appliance if it fails early. After picking out a largish room I then loaded up the water, plugged it in and away I went. First thing I noticed was the very irritating on/off button. All the good work was undone as its too low down, hence bending, and was small and fidgety. I expect the first thing to fail could be the plastic button cover. Never-mind away I went. On my very average lounge-room I used 2 refills and it worked with good results. There were no major carpet stains but I could see the water was light brown and it was very efficient in both delivering and removing the water. The room was done in 15 to 20 minutes. One thing I noticed is not to be deceived by the collection tank size. It is full when the clean water tank is empty despite it only being 1/3 full. It will not collect water after it has reached the full line. It has a system, similar to a toilet cistern function that makes it impossible to over fill. When refilling the clean water tank you must empty the dirty water out. Both of which are an easy task. After the carpets had dried overnight it looked clean and fresh but even after 2 hours I was able to walk on it with my bare feet and it was close to being dry on a 22 degree day with a ceiling fan running and the front door open. So overall in some ways its an improvement on my previous machine. The roller seems more heavy duty and the bristles seem longer but for me longevity will be the issue. I still prefer the power button to be foot operated and the on/off button is an issue if you have a bending disability. It now only has 1 pedal for lowering the handle which works fine but that on/off button and its small size will be annoying for me and many others. Appliance companies need to consider that some partially disabled people can still perform some household tasks but I think this has not been considered with this machine. As for performance, well it seems a better performer and easily did the job with a minimum of fuss but with some motor noise. I have only ever used Bissell cleaning formula in my machines and they seem well up to the job and are easy and cost effective to purchase in may outlets or even online. I recommend sticking with them especially whilst the machine is under warranty. The final task with this appliance is the cleaning. I am fastidious when it comes to cleaning any appliance which made it all the more disappointing that the other 2 Bissell items failed so early. Anyway probably not even a 10 minute task but it was then that I noticed how much grit had been lifted from the carpet despite giving it a heavy vacuum first as should always happen. I was left in no doubt that it had done its job. After cleaning I left it outside in the shade for a few hours and it was completely dry. Storage is simple as it has a built in cord storage with a handy plug clip to stop it from dangling and it has a foot print of about 45 to 50cm in a cupboard space. Overall a good cleaner, able to get into narrower areas, at a fair price if you shop about, with some easy to use functions, easy to prepare and clean but let down by the on/off button. I will reserve my decision on durability as I use it further.
