Price of further repair/s more than a new dishwasher
Extremely dissappointed with the product and company. The age old questions:
1. should a product last beyond its warranty period : Absolutely, should last propotional to what has been paid, irrespect of the warranty period. A company must cover its product beyond warranty period. 2. Is it worth spending large amount on a product when there are others cheaper options- absolutely NOT. 3. Did the dishwasher perform any better than previous dishwashers irrespective of price:(Kelvinator, Westinghouse, Asko, Bosch, F&P, Miele): Not at all. The performance was equal to all other dishwashers irrepsective of company and price paid. 4. New dishwasher purchased-SOLT: model no GGSDW6013X, price paid $384, on 03 Oct 2025, The Good Guys. Warranty period- 2 years.
Entry level dishwasher from Bosch. Washes very well, drying not so well, need to keep it open for 1-2 hours after wash for really dry dishes. It is extremely quiet. Has only few program options. Looks very cheap and basic, buttons and plastic parts are looking cheap and not reliable. But it is cheap dishwasher indeed , you pay hundred dollars more… Read more
compared to cheap dishwashers and getting Bosh. So go to Series 4 or better series 6, can find them for similar money in factory seconds. Those are much nicer. Series 8 is fantastic as well but 2.5 times more expensive.
Does what it is meant to do – Bosch Series 2 Freestanding Dishwasher Silver Inox. Simply put it washes dishes, cutlery etc spotlessly clean and dry. It is very quiet, very easy to operate, place dishes in and actually does what it is meant to do. I bought this machine from The Good Guys, took it home and installed it. I left home at 5 PM and had the dishwasher home up and running before 6.30pm. The Good Guys were fast, the traffic OK and installing it was easy. Show details · 2

Exceptional Performance at an Affordable Price – I recently purchased the Bosch Series 2 SMS40E08AU dishwasher, and I must say it has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, user-friendliness, and affordability. Setting up the dishwasher was a breeze, and the user interface was remarkably intuitive. The variety of options available makes it adaptable to different loads, and the… Read more · 1
cleaning results have been consistently impressive. I've used more expensive brands in the past, and I can confidently say that this Bosch model performs just as well, if not better.
One of the standout features is its efficiency in cleaning. I appreciate the fact that I only need to scrape my dishes lightly, and the dishwasher takes care of the rest. The cleaning results are excellent. This dishwasher has truly made dishwashing a hassle-free experience.
One minor maintenance aspect to note is the need to regularly clean the filter. While this is a small inconvenience, it ensures optimal performance. Fortunately, the process is straightforward and doesn't take much time. In the grand scheme of things, this minor task is a small trade-off for the consistently outstanding cleaning results.
What sets the Bosch Series 2 SMS40E08AU apart is its cost-effectiveness. Priced competitively, it offers exceptional value for the quality of performance it delivers. The machine is not overly loud during operation, which is an added bonus for those who prefer a quieter kitchen environment.
I appreciate the simplicity of this dishwasher – it does the job exceptionally well without unnecessary frills. Whether I rinse my dishes beforehand or not, the dishwasher handles the task with ease. I have yet to experience any clogs, a testament to its reliable design.
In conclusion, the Bosch Series 2 SMS40E08AU is a fantastic dishwasher that combines ease of use, superb cleaning capabilities, and affordability. If you're looking for a reliable and cost-effective appliance that doesn't compromise on performance, this dishwasher is an excellent choice. I'm absolutely in love with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a top-notch dishwasher without breaking the bank.

Efficient Wash, Great Price – The Bosch Series 2 Dishwasher is a Gem! Provides sparkling dishes every time even on the fastest cycle, and is lovely and quiet. It has a limited number of wash options, but has all you would ever need and the racks fit dishes and glassware with room to spare. It's simple but sleek design blends seamlessly into any kitchen, it is easy to use, and is a great price - what more could you ask for! Show details

Doesn't Deliver Basic Function – Just purchased this product and am disappointed. Promoted as no need to rinse dishes apart from large food particles promoting water conservation, but that's not the case. Food particles and grease still present on dishes. I know this model is at the budget end of the market but it doesn't do what it promises
Literally the worst – This is the worst dishwasher I’ve ever used. You pretty well have to wash everything before putting it on. Always runs out of rinse aid. Waste of money Show details

Rubbish Don"t buy it – I purchased this Bosch dishwasher as I was very pleased with the other 2 I had previously. coming up.. Had the appliance technician several times but it kept playing up.. Finally rang Bosch who wanted $137 plus $37 per quarter an hour. It simply wasn't worth it as we think it was the electronics and so we ditched it after 4 years. My new Bosch series 6 is sitting in the kitchen waiting to be installed. It was made in Germany. I have also taken out extra warranty. Hope this one is better

Average dishwasher – So we have a new one of these in our rental property. We had a better, but 6-year old model Bosch dishwasher at our previous house, so even new, this one is a step down from our old one. If you've got some dirty pots or cookware that need more scrubbing, it won't clean them properly on Auto. On Pots/Pans, it does a decent enough job. But sometimes… Read more
we have plasticware on the bottom level as well so can't safely use Pots/Pans. One really needs to consider what's washing together in this dishwasher if you want everything cleaned. As for the plasticware, well, it leaves them all SO wet. It's ridiculous. Ceramicware dries off really nicely, as does glassware, but not the plasticware. Our old dishwasher only had a hot water connection. Maybe that made all the difference...? This one has a cold water connection. I think in our new house we're going to connect the hot water to the dishwasher again (and we're going to get a higher model that has "intensive mode" as that's a REALLY useful addition, even if it's a costly addition these days). Can't say I like the cutlery basket. I've been spoiled with a cutlery tray for 6+ years, so it feels very backwards to go back to the basket! However, with only 2 drawers, you CAN stack much higher in both drawers, but that cutlery basket takes up so much room that there's not enough space for plates AND all the pots/pans, let alone the containers. For a family of 5, this dishwasher is not as useful for us as one with a cutlery drawer. It's easy to clean, but then again, we've been using something similar for 6+ years, so we're very used to it. No errors so far, no retained water; no problems, really. Just very wet plasticware and caked-on grubbiness on pots/ceramicware doesn't come out clean first time. Otherwise it's good. But compared to other models available, it's certainly not Bosch's best.
A Good Solid Performer – We've had this for 7.5 years Bought it for $575 from Good Guys. Motor started to get louder after the 4th year but still washes well. We have the Turkish built model. We rinse our dishes before putting them in which will save you cleaning the filter so much. Cleaning the filter at the bottom is essential. You look after it and it will look after you. Last Bosch this model lasted 13 years – The last Bosch I had last 13 years then a fault code E04 check water but no problem but had a fault in its heater part which would trip the house fuses. with a display cost 200 plus more. The machine itself wash well with minor changes in the old and new models and has simple options to chose from. I do a quick rinse off before putting in the dishwasher select auto and all come out spotless never use the rise add dispenser as the tablet have a rinse aid part in them. Using pots and pans works well and is quite hot but do not put plastic on the bottom when using that cycle as it may distort the plastic or flip the lighter Bowles. It would be nice for Bosch to answer the comment here instead of "email us" as we would like to know the answers as well.

Too many issues – I have had this dishwasher for 3 years and have that many issues with “check water” and cleaning out hoses, now today water won’t go in! So frustrating!!!!!! I’ve called technicians before but now that’s getting too expensive to keep doing, might have to just buy a new one. Show details

Simple, cheap and cleans well – Cleans perfectly with fairy platinum tablets. Quiet. Looks really good, was relatively inexpensive and I'm happy. Some small draw backs: Not many options for washes (personally I dont want many options). Drying could be a little better but it's OK. I think it is harder to install than some dishwashers due to a safety valve, so you may consider getting it installed ($175) like I did. Show details · 1

Absolutely Disappointing – Always have to leave the settings on Pots and pans to get a half decent clean. More often than not, still leaves smelly dishes. Really wanted to love it but disappointed! Will not buy again – i rarely write a review. Previously I had a Bosch that lasted over a 10 year period and had an impeccable performance...of course was made in Germany! This is where the downfall starts for Bosch in my experience. Its made in Turkey. I really really wanted to love this dishwasher. Back in August 2021 I bought the Series 4 and apart from being an… Read more
awful smell it also had a longer wash time and did not dry the dishes at all and also didn't clean properly. I bought it from appliances online who were brilliant and i highly recommend them but not this dishwasher. After complaining and having a run around for over 2 months I was finally managed to get a technician to look at the problem and he said 'there is no problem this is how this machine is and the smell is not going away anywhere no guarantee and also that the drying function is the best that it is now!'. My next step was ask it to be changed and I got the series 2 which I had previously. This model after several emails finally arrived (I must say that the lady at Bosch who served me was amazing at her job! thank you) I was given the option of a return but I loved my previous Bosch so much that I stuck to the brand!
The good news was that there was no plastic residue smell & it can clean if that is all you want go for it. The bad news is that it still doesn't dry. The water stays in the machine physically all over inside which I know will ultimately reduce the life of the machine but Bosch thinks otherwise. So here is what i have to do now. -Rinse the dishes before putting in the wash. -Take them out and dry them myself or put them on the kitchen sink. I used to put them in the cupboard before. More work to use the dishwasher then wash by hand! The product has fallen short of my expectation. I will not buy the brand again!

them, $400 to fix, might as well buy new one. Keeps stopping with light “check water flow”, referred to YOUTUBE, checked blockages, measured sufficient water flow, checked filter, even purchased special size screw to be able to look at back of machines drainage system. I suspect it’s the Microprocessor, probably not worth fixing. Aldi model mentioned available this week for $350, only available twice a year, so l purchased one, l have found in the past Aldi products, like exercise bike, 2 vacuum cleaners and a electric sander, to be most reliable and excellent value, as all there home food brands are.

Very Happy with this machine – This machine does a GREAT job. The inside is designed really well to stack your dishes and it is really simple to operate. Solid, Reliable Washer - Easy to Use.. Painful to Service – To be honest - I have 2 of these units, because I liked the first one that much. What you first notice about these Bosch units is they are solid: the doors latch cleanly and precisely, and all the components seem well designed and strong (yet simple). The interior space is very good, and well laid out to be useable. Far better than some I've seen… Read more
(worst was Fysher and Paykel) and almost as good as my old Dishlex. You can pack this thing fairly tight and it always cleans well. Controls are just simple and easy to use; anybody could walk up to this and press 2 buttons to make it go without much thinking. Don't take that for granted, there are some crazy difficult controls on appliances these days (did anybody say "Smeg" - try and figure out what those symbols mean).
One thing I really liked, which a lot of people wouldn't notice, is the intelligent approach to the solenoid valve. This would normally be inside the unit where it's cheaper and easier to manufacture, but these Bosch machines have it located on the end of the input hose - which would all but eliminate water hammer. Good thinking, and I appreciate it.
Now the REALLY bad stuff. The design of these units is so ridiculously complex, they are a nightmare to service. You literally have to completely disassemble the thing just to access the sump - which is the part most likely to block. There are dozens of screws, clips and clamps that need to be removed and the unit has to be completely inverted. So pray you never have to service it (but you will at some stage) or expect this to be expensive if you outsource it - and be careful to use a very good tradie. Fact is you probably won't get the choice because Bosch are seriously into "planned obsolescence"; they provide no technical details on their parts, which are incredibly difficult to source and expensive. It's pretty obvious they want you to just chuck it and buy new.

This is a seriously good dishwasher – This dishwasher is perfect for us because it has to be quite close to where we watch tv and it is so quiet we don’t know it’s going. Our only criticism of it, and this is annoying, is that you have to manually set it to dry the dishes… Read more
properly and it doesn’t always retain the setting. Why build a dishwasher that doesn’t dry the dishes by default? Apart from that we can’t fault it. And it handles a full load on the 59 minute cycle so is very economical, and the filters are very easy to remove and clean . Highly recommended.
leave bitter tastes on everything!!! – I have used this for a few months, very disappointed. I tried different brands of dishwashing powder, the bitter taste remains no matter which cycle I choose. The taste won't go, even though I run the machine again without powder. Only the weakest powder can be rinsed off, but the plates will not be properly cleaned. Show details

Rusting stainless steel door & cheap nasty plastic control panel – The stainless steel door started to rust out at the bottom after only 2years and even though the dishwasher was still covered by a extended warranty Bosch would not replace it. recommended. Bosch said we must of damaged the door ( which was not the case) so after much chasing up Bosch sent out an authorised repairer to take a look & take photos, he agreed there was no obvious damage that caused the door to rust “ Bosch Customer Service told me they would most likely replace the door as a good will gesture” but of coarse that did not happen.
The door was a problem from the beginning we also had trouble with the top plastic panel, it is cheap and nasty, impossible to clean, permanently marking and impossible to remove marks even after using the cleaning kit they sent us the marks are permanent ( this was reported to Bosch shortly after buying but apart from sending us the useless cleaning kit they refused to address the problem). After months of chasing Bosch again to address our rust problem they finally refused to replace the door, extremely poor customer service, very dissatisfied we will never buy a Bosch dishwasher again. The best they would offer us was 50% off a new dishwasher “NOT including delivery or installation ” we would need to buy directly from Bosch which sounds good at first but this was more expensive than buying a new one from Appliances online who also offer free installation & delivery “So giving us nothing really”. Shame on you Bosch! Bosch- A15630492

and even my DIY skills had it installed in 20 minutes (pro would be quicker I would think but I triple-checked everything as I went for what is every several years apart job for me). I now check the filter every few days and hardly see anything but good practice to keep on top of that, and it's a very easy exercise to remove / clean / replace the filter. Not had this dishwasher for long but from experience, the spray arms will come off easy for their quarterly check. It has not become clogged and I do not expect it to. Enough people here that it's used every day and pretty full each time. You probably do get that extra something with very premium capsules but for every day (and no one else notices) middle ranging decent brand tablets are perfectly fine. Drying wise Bosch system will not get to sealed very concave areas. In return for no hot fan doing that they are sealed units that sterile. I take the latter for the small shake of a few items to dry fully needed to complete the process as I quickly stash everything back in place. It's a simple dishwasher that does the job very well, and in my experience that simplicity equals reliability. . It's really already very quiet at 50db too....You pay payloads for double that level of quiet but it's double not much of anything. At 6 feet away it is already like having difficulty trying to listen in on two people talking quietly in an otherwise silent room, not that I would do that:) Get it at a good price and I simply can't see the point of buying "more"

provide installation instructions that are pictorial and on a single sheet - so, a not very useful cartoon, and a very odd, confusing and misleading cartoon at that.
I have the following advice for anyone confused by Bosch's cartoon:
1. Rather than the conventional valve at the lower back of the machine, this model comes with an aqua-stop valve. 2. If delivered 'out of the box', you'll find that Bosch have attached the aquastop valve, in an inverted position at the lower, back side of the machine (this confused the hell out of me, as I assumed that this was the position that the valve had to be in during operation) 3. Bosch have already attached the aquastop valve to a hose 4. In order to install, you must first twist the valve off the back of the machine and then connect the hose directly to a water inlet tap 5. The inlet should be a cold water inlet 6. The aquastop valve has to placed with the flat side upwards/pointy side down, or it will not work as designed 6. If the hose provided by Bosch is too short to reach the water inlet tap, add a 20 mm to 20 mm male thread nipple to the valve so that another hose can be attached to extend the line to reach the cold water inlet tap.
Very simple, but made very confusing by the silly drawings that Bosch provide, if you've never encountered this kind of valve before.
