Bosch Series 6 Built-in Dishwashers

Worked alright for first few months but now 12 months in its terrible – My previous Bosch dishwasher lasted 6.5 years, which wasn't terrible but wasn't awesome, but worked fairly reliably until the end when water got into the motor and killed it. I bought another Bosch based on favourable internet reviews. It is the second worst appliance I have ever bought. We rinse all our really dirty dishes before putting them in the machine so as not to clog the filters, but having said that if you dont pull the filter out every 1-2 weeks and clean it the machine starts acting up. The problem we have now is the tablet isn't dissolving and ending up in the front of the top rack undissolved. Dishes are coming out as dirty or worse than they went in. Glasses come out absolutely filthy on the outside where we need to scrub them with a brush (even with glass mode on). Drying performance is mediocre (we use Finish rinse aid at all times).
The tablet not dissolving and the machine not cleaning almost at all now is the final straw. This machine is 1 year old and typically used once a day. I'll never buy another Bosch dishwasher again. It's a pity because the Bosch Cordless drill I have (10+years old) and the Bosch washing machine (13 years old) work flawlessly.
Avoid.

Email sent 23/01/21. Its now 01/02/21 and no response. It appears your customer service is about as good as your modern appliances.
What does it take to get somebody at Bosch to address this virtually brand new abomination of a machine?
Hi Jtrain, We apologise for the delay. We have received your email and responded. If we can be of further assistance, feel free to contact us on 1300 369 744 Kind Regards Bosch Home Australia
Very Quiet and Energy Efficient – We just purchased this under-bench model having been without a dishwasher for a couple of months. My husband removed our old, broken dishwasher and easily installed this one to fit perfectly in its place. Firstly, we are amazed at how very quiet it is when running. It uses around 10-12 litres of water, depending on the programme used, which is certainly a lot less water we would use when hand washing.
Inside, I like the VarioDrawer for cutlery/utensils, the high quality baskets, the GlassSecure Tray and the included large item Sprayhead.
I like the good range of wash programmes and the option to adjust various settings. The quick 29 min programme is awesome and so far is our preferred programme and perfect for our needs.
A very handy feature is the InfoLight that shows us at a glance (on the floor) that the dishwasher is still running (yes, it's quiet) and I like that the dishwasher switches off automatically after the programme has ended.
So, we are happy with our purchase and look forward to many years of not having to hand wash ever again!!!

won’t fit! So annoying Also no open auto at the end of a cycle AND the door can’t be left just slightly ajar to let the moisture out. 3 very important functions so pretty disappointing
Follow-up · I received the usual “Please give us a call”from Bosch and when i posted back well Ive already called you will you do anything more? I have received no response. So not good
Follow-up · My large bowls are 28.5 cms It dries reasonably well but would be better if the door opened slightly at the end of the cycle just as my old Miele did. Smaller plates are fine.

An expensive and disappointing purchase – Purchased the Series 6 Dishwasher 26/6/22 from Appliances Online. Lasted a total of 2years 4 months - 4 months out of the 2year warranty. So at a purchase price of $1,276- I've had the privilege of paying around $620 per year to wash my dishes because the electronics has failed and no warranty comeback. Not good enough for a product which is… Read more
considered to be one of the better 'affordable' dishwashers. Good while it lasted but way too expensive to be buying another and have another fail!! Either improve your warranty Bosh or improve the product - it worked well when it was going but I won't risk another.
Bye bye bosch – Our older Bosch lasted over 14 years, this new serie 6 has been a pain after a few months. It started with not washing properly, then not draining properly, then tablets not being dissolved, then being stuck in machine care mode, then not drying anything, then being stuck in error mode, then back to not draining properly, then......well I think you can see the pattern. Bosch you've lost us as this things #######g hopeless. Show details

Great dishwasher – As expected from a high end German dishwasher it’s vey good. Bought this to replace a much loved Bosch series 4 under bench model in a new kitchen and couldn’t be happier with it. It washes great on the quick 29 minute cycle which is all we use and it’s very quiet. Drawer system is very flexible and it fits heaps in it. It doesn’t give… Read more
bone dry dishes in 29 minutes but they’re dry enough and I’m not running a dishwasher for 3 hours to try when opening the door for a few minutes after the cycle will achieve that but honestly it’s not really an issue. The extra dry function helps but does add 20 minutes.
The full integration is so good with the red light projected on the floor to show its running which is cool and is necessary if you’re waiting for it to finish as it’s pretty quiet.
Chose the series 6 as it has the better flexible drawer system and visual running indicator over the series 4 and is $500 cheaper than the series 8 which really only adds a digital time visual running indicator.
Did find it pretty difficult to find one and the cabinet maker needs it to make the integrated front panel so if you’re doing that you might want to make sure you buy in advance.
If you’re buying online be careful what model (series) you’re looking at as I found many websites didn’t state that probably hoping you think it’s a cheap deal when it’s really a lower series model.
Works great! – After 2 years running without no issue, like the easy way to programm and the many options to wash, also the items can be arranged in different waysto be washed. Very quiet machine compared to others we had. Love how it looks installed as part of the kitchen making a higher end product. Show details · 1
Great dishwasher, Bosch support not so great – Moved into a new home with this dishwasher installed, it was Dead on Arrival. Contacted Bosch and requested a replacement as I don't want a newly device to be repaired with parts, they refused. Went back to my reseller and they were happy to organise a replacement through Bosch. 2 months later, the new dishwasher was installed and it worked fine… Read more
after giving it's first wash to clean before placing dishes in. As I first loaded up all my dishes assuming that the machine would work, the dishwasher had lots its power and I was disappointed that this had occurred.
***Have a look at the photo I have uploaded in this review, the dishwasher randomly shut itself down during the wash.***
After some troubleshooting, I have managed to get the power up and running by unplugging the power cable out, and plugged it back in to regain its power. After using it for 14 days, it has failed on me 3 times. I have sent a recording to Bosch and they did both responding to me. I have called up Bosch and they had viewed my email with the video uploaded, the person who spoke to understood my problem and frustration. The video proved that the dishwasher had no power and the only way to resolve this was to unplug the power cable and plug it back in. The Support operator requested me to be placed on hold so he could speak to a supervisor. The answer I got back was, they cannot do anything about it and it will fall under my warranty for repairs... it is what it is" I did not like this response and it has made me realise, I don't ever want to own a Bosch brand in my home anymore, I don't recommend them to family and friends.
The dishwasher works great when it works, the support is terrible.
Bosch Dishwasher broke after 2 yr 5 months – We had our builders put in a brand new Bosch dishwasher in July 2021 and the side panel broke and it’s been 2yr 5 months and Bosch will not cover in under warranty. Disappointed as we have all Bosch appliances and didn’t expect them to fail so quickly. Starting to reconsider our choice of product. Costing us over $200 now to repair. Show details
Made in Germany...disappointed purchase – Machine whilst works well but the cosmetic part of it is terrible quality. The bosch logo doesn't last. Keeps falling off. The chrome handle develops hairline crack in less than 2 years of use. Was replace the first time around FOC by bosch and it happened again less than 1 year after it was replaced. Looks like my old Bosch, but superior in performance – We reluctantly replaced our 15 year old Bosch dishwasher during a kitchen upgrade so that we could have a fully integrated look. I was surprised that the design appeared to not have changed much over our old one. However the performance is noticeably superior, we regularly put baking trays in there which have literally baked on gunk. Very rare… Read more · 1
that they require additional cleaning. The new Bosch is also quieter. I can't vouch for the water efficiency but i would be surprised if it hasn't also improved. My biggest surprise was finding out that Bosch is an (almost ) not for profit company which benefits the Robert Bosch Foundation. They do have a small number of conventional shareholders (8%) with the remaining 92% being used for charitable causes. I don't know why Bosch don't make this fact more public, I think lots of consumers would be swayed by this information. Personally I think long and hard before buying any other brand now that I know this to be the case. Plus the longevity is definitely there. We have a Bosch washing machine which is 15 years old and still going strong ( touch wood).
Couple of issues with top of door display and operation; otherwise good! – Took receipt of my new SMP66mx05a dishwasher last week. It replaced an older Bosch, so install of the new one was quite simple, or so it seemed. Issues: 1. This series 6 model has an on the top of door display, other models are front of door. With door closed, I push ON but nothing happens. I open the door, the display comes alive, I choose my… Read more
program, close the door, get a beep, display stays dark and DW does not start. I log a call with the Bosch call centre who will dispatch a partner at some point. Finally get lucky with a YouTube hit, find a video from someone who shows that with the display on top of door models, you need to power on, select program, then press START with door open, then close the door quickly before the display starts blinking. Then the DW will start. This information is *not* in the manual, which covers all SM models and all SB models which are mostly front of door displays. There is no distinction in the manual for operating with a top of door display. ***The manual needs updating to reflect how to operate a top of door display model.*** 2. The model comes with an infolight (red dot on floor when running), and also, according to the Bosch website, a ‘time remaining display’, just like some front of door display models. There is no distinction or caveat on ‘time remaining display’ for top of door models. However, once the door is shut and the dishwasher starts, the top of door display is dark, including the ‘time remaining display’. Therefor, the display is not really a ‘time remaining display’, but rather a ‘length of program’ display. I eventually find reviews for previous model SMP66mx03a where Bosch was engaged on the lack of time remaining display, of course they kept the subsequent discussion private in emails. But here I am 2 years later, buying the new model, and there it still is, on the Bosch website: my model has ‘time remaining display’ listed in the features, with no caveats. Disappointing, considering BOSCH was engaged on this very issue on the previous model. ***BOSCH needs to fix up the description of this feature on this and other top of door display model dishwashers. It is not as described.*** 3. I flagged these issues to BOSCH via social media, they said “we'll get back to you as soon as we can.” That was a week ago, still waiting. Other: The dishwasher itself is fine. It washes and dries well, everything is coming out clean. Lots of program flexibility. Super quiet operation. Stylish and efficient. Would recommend, if you aren’t fussed about a ‘time remaining display’.
Bosch upgrade from Miele?? – We bought a secondhand Miele dishwasher 30 years ago, thinking it was near new. When it needed a part we were told that dishwasher was 45 years old. How we miss it. We decided to renovate the whole kitchen after the Miele finally broke down, and four months ago bought what we considered the best on the market in our price range. A Miele… Read more
replacement was too expensive for us. The next best thing, we decided was a Bosch made in Germany, and settled on the SMV66MX01A/74 a built in with a front panel to match our new kitchen. Fitting was exact and our cabinet maker did a superb job between two pack finished flat fronted cupboards and stone top. It looks fantastic!! The beautiful quietness is what we first noticed, and the indicator light shining on the floor was the confirmation that it is actually on and working. The layout is pleasing and functional as this model has the knife tray at the top and a cutlery basket, which is ideal The spacing for each plate\bowl type is well thought out and adequate space for a clean up after a family get together, or just the two of us for a couple of days of eating and drinking. The door seal is perfect with no leaks and just quietly works with minimum of effort to close and to open. The choice of detergent works well, as we are use to powder and the little door is already open and the container indicating the correct amount. Easy to use. No fuss. It cleans really well. Our litmus test would be how clean would it get a coffee cup that had been standing for several hours.clean Passed Another test is pots and pans. Not that we would do this regularly as the handles deteriorate in any dishwasher after many washes. So we took all the handles off and washed all the pots and pans that we have been using in the motorhome to test it out. Satisfactory, a good clean, Glasses come out sparkling, cutlery clean. Here's the gripe: Even when set up to 2hrs and 20 minutes wash time the cups still had water on the top ( bottom ) and still needed a wipe before putting away. The Extra Dry option does solve this, but a normal wash should cover this. ( our old Miele did ) Here's another gripe. The user manual does not explain this, and we were perplexed. No matter what setting we chose the timer came up with 29 minutes. Baffled, we searched on our browser, no answer. So we rang Bosch service...Oh Yes the rinse aid has to be full before the timer buttons behave themselves. OK Got it, and wrote it in my user manual. One good point is that the settings remember your last wash settings, so you don't have to keep resetting it. Brilliant. The control panel is quite easy to follow for a variety of washes, and it does the job very well. The baking sheet spray head is a real boon and works well with the flexible tray options, once you get to know them all. There wouldn't be many objects that it couldn't clean ( i have heard that motorbike parts have been cleaned this way ) Pros: Slick finish and smart thinking in the tray department Cleans everything really well, even caked on grime. Glass done perfectly REALLY Quiet. Inside left sparkling after was.
Cons: Not happy about the need for extra dry as it uses more power The user manual could do with an overhaul.

Good performer but new model lags – Series 6 has been consistently well performing in the last decade, does not pick cleaning tablet or drying agent and super silent during wash. The only negative feedback from me is the new models with wifi connectivity doesnt work: 50% chance it doesnt connect to the app, the buttons also have much worse delay than the old model.
Whisper quiet and sparkling clean wash – I have 2 of these dishwashers. They are made in Germany unlike the Series 4 which are made elsewhere. They are whisper quiet and the only way to tell that they are running is via a red light that shines onto the floor below, (cool feature that I love!) There is a rack up the top for cutlery which is fantastic and helps separate all the cutlery for… Read more
a great clean. The top drawer/rack is adjustable and can be lowered to fit taller glassware etc. There are many wash cycle options, including an Express wash, eco wash etc. However, the best part of this dishwasher is that it can be controlled remotely from your phone. It is wi-fi enabled. This way I can turn it on no matter where I am during the day when the solar panels have kicked in to save on running costs. Highly recommend.
Quiet Cleans and Dry's – Could not be happier with this dishwasher, it cleans very effectively and is very quiet when compared to our previous dishwasher. The drying cycle is fantastic, it is only some plastic containers that generally are not fully dry. My previous dishwasher was an omega, and this one is significantly improved in all aspects over that one, but when… Read more
comparing to other peoples dishwasher's we find this one seems to outperform other brands. I am not sure what the series 8 would have over this dishwasher that would warrant purchasing the top of the range.

It's fine, not as good as a 20 year old Miele though – Cleans well, quiet, cannot dry. We replaced our 20 year old Miele dishwasher with this one. It is very quiet, and cleans well. But does not dry, even with extra dry selected. Our old Miele far out performed the Bosch on this front, even if it was louder. Shame that the technology lessons of 20 years ago have not filtered through. Wish they… Read more
they would have spent their resources on the fundamentals - drying - rather than pointless gimmicks like WiFi connectivity. Door is pretty flimsy as well.
It's fine. Easy to use, quiet, good at cleaning. Hoped for a little more for the price.
Don't buy if you want to wash wine glasses! – Washes ok but as other users have noted leaves lots of moisture after washing. We always scrape and rinse before putting in the dishwasher. Definitely not as quiet as my old integrated Electrolux. My biggest issue with this appliance is it's poor design. There is no way you can safely stack wine glasses. tray, raising and lowering the top rack, and every possible way of safely stacking my wine glasses. The wine glass either hits the top of the machine or if you move it further to the middle and virtually lay it down, it hits the side of the machine. Also, with my old dishwasher I was able to split the racks on the bottom shelf so that even with a cutlery basket I still had extra stacking on the bottom rack.
I should have waited for the new stock of Electrolux to arrive in Australia in 2024!
(Too early for me to review cleaning and maintenance - ignore socre.)
Could do better! – I wish I still had the 20 year old Dishlex this replaced! Dishes mostly, but not always, come out clean but always come out soaking wet, regardless of the amount of rinse aid used and a 2hr 45m cycle. It's quiet enough and the red dot is a slightly helpful but practically unnecessary gimmick, as is the Home Connect wifi functionality. Overall I'm disappointed for the price paid and my expectations of a Bosch product.

Doesn't clean well at all. Don't buy the hype – Bought this as an upgrade from our Omega dishwasher thinking Bosch would be a massive step up in quality given all the hype around German engineering and other reviews. I never thought I could love a dishwasher – But Bosch has taught me otherwise. The dishwasher that came with our house (DeLonghi) was a waste of space. Didn’t clean anything properly. Cleans perfectly! Do Recommend – Dishwasher works great. Dishes come out perfectly clean and without any residue. Long wash cycles but comes with water efficiency. Operates pretty quietly. Do rinse dishes before putting in dishwasher so imagine that helps. No issues so far. Show details

It's very quiet, but tricky to program – This is my 3rd Bosch, 1st in house when bought, second purchased 10 yrs ago and recently could not be repaired by Bosch (3 times!). use of rinse aid. I find the re-set operation tricky and frustrating....I seem unable to get it to 'forget' and 're-set'...the instructions are brief. Additional functions, are they another stand alone short program or something to add to the other longer, regular programs and how do you know they are engaged?? I have tried to use Extra Dry but not even sure if I did, or simply that it is useless and made no difference to the water retention on contents. I don't use my dishwashers a lot, so I guess I can live with it, if you entertain, you need a dishwasher! We purchased direct from Bosch.
Excellent Dishwasher – Easy to install, this is my second Bosch dishwasher, both the series 6 & series 8 which I had in my previous house have a variety of programs for all cleaning requirements. one sensor clean wash brought this up like new. I especially like the red light on the floor as a operating indication is perfect as opening a dishwasher when going is no fun. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a reliable, good value dishwasher. Richard.
Cleans great, pretty quiet, simple but good – Got the under bench as we had limited depth of bench to work with. Was easily installed and worked well. Did have a strong plastic smell on arrival but called Bosch who express posted some dishwasher cleaner. After a few runs on max temp the smell is very nearly gone. Looks great and very happy with it. Has a mechanical child lock, would be good if this was built into the control panel instead of being a lever above. Show details
Terrible it is so loud – We bought our dishwasher two months ago and ever since we turned it on it is made a terrible sound. We have tried many different cycles and for some reason it sounds like a helicopter every 3 to 5 minutes. The cultery drawer at the top saved a fair bit of space at the bottom for larger items, but it also sometimes gets in the way of tall items in the middle rack. This can be worked around by adjusting the height of the middle rack, though.
The main problems with this dishwasher are metal items come out with rust spots on them, and several items come out a bit wet and need to be dried by hand.
Good dishwasher overall!
Very happy – Very easy to use, efficient, cleans very well first time & quiet. Instruction booklet exactly as required. the black build-in dishwasher as a part of my new house and I ran it a couple of times and all the dishes were not drying properly. I thought i was doing something wrong so I attempted various settings with different dishwashing tablets and the result is always the same. I then went online To Bosch for help and they have all the 'excuses' covered so as to absolve themselves from any responsibility. These 'excuses' include, not using the right/enough rinse aid, not using the right dish-washing powder/tablet, not loading the dishes properly etc. So basically they are trying to blame the user for every possibility. I ran the machine on AUTO which is 2.55 hours long so it is not a short program, there is an 'extra dry' mode however even then the dishes never come out fully dry. I have been told to open the door after the drying cycle is finished so as to dissipate all the steam to avoid condensation however even then the dishes are still not fully dry. My old Smeg appliance never had these problems no matter what rinse aid i was using (sometime i was not using any at all and dishes were still dry!). To blame rinse aid and dishwashing powder manufacturers is really a very cheap shot and frankly disgraceful. I learned my lesson first time Bosch and the last.

German made Bosch Dishwasher, It is so quiet you don't know it's running, the dishes come out spotless and completely dry, and super easy to use, my only gripe with this dishwasher is it’s layout, the upper rack isn't all that great for stacking cups and glasses as they overhang the shelves, the back of the bottom rack the prongs are to close together to allow proper washing if you use each slot, so you can only use every second row and the depth of the rack (front to back) doesn't allow you to put a dinner plates in the back row while putting a slide plate in the front row as they overlap. Also wasn't impressed with residual water left inside the dishwasher from manufacture. The Layout of the the Asko dishwashers is much easier to stack. As Bosch proof reads and moderates reviews before they are published on their website, I though this review site would be give a more accurate picture of their products.

Great when it works, but appalling service when it goes wrong – A great dishwasher when it works, but very disappointed to have it break down inside 2 years. Tends to use a lot of energy as well.
The fold down racks are a nice touch, until to the 30th time of them unclipping and falling apart in the bottom of the dishwasher ... very fiddly to clip back together again.
Now for the bad.....
In 4 years of operation. 6 times cooking fat has blocked the outlet pump and waste pipe on hot wash settings
And for the 2nd time the heater has failed at $180 for the part and nearly $700 in callouts and labour....
Note very complicated assembly. It takes me over an hour to access the diverter assembly or one and a half hours to removed the heat pump.
I can do a whirlpool heater or pump in under 10 minutes. So expect high service technician charges.
Nice washer silly prices you can but better I think ..... try whirlpool for $800
As side note the telephone customer support team are fantastic. They will do what ever they can to help you out.

Good design, German made, very quiet – This replaced our 10year old Dishlex. The interior is a great design and very flexible, and we like the cutlery drawer, as it frees up space and is fast to dry and put away. (Finish) you'll get better results from the start. My conclusion is the low water use + bigger loading capacity means more soap is needed. In use it is very very quiet, and we tend to use the 30min wash. The most economical wash takes 3 hours which is just silly as once you allow for drying, your dishwasher is out of action for half a day and dishes are piling up. Installed it looks very neat and smart, with no buttons on the outside. Be aware there is no remaining time visible while it is in use, and DIY installation took me a LONG time following all the steps - don't expect to drop it in and connect the pipes in 15mins. I hope the price premium and German manufacturing translates to longevity, sure seems well engineered and built. We are also glad to avoid buying from a country of origin who's government is bullying Australia and her industries.
