Breville crystal clear kettle – After having a stainless kettle for years that was hard to keep clean I decided to try this kettle. I love it! It's easy to clean inside and out. it has a large opening lid which is quick and easy to fill. It's quiet and looks great. Would not use anything else now. Easy clean and big opening lid Show reply
Glass Jug Shattered while boiling – I took a long time to decide on this kettle as I was trying to avoid BPAs and plastics. Who wants melted plastic in their water? Anyway, I used the kettle maybe 1-3 times per day for around 12 months. Then one day, just out of warranty. the jug split and a huge chunk of glass broke off. Boiling water flooded the electrical base and covered the… Read more
bench. Fortunately nobody got scalded.
I paid $99.95 from Harvey Norman for the kettle. You would expect it to last, It's Schott borosillicate glass (apparently) and why make a kettle that cannot withstand the temperatures of boiling water?
I need to be clear, this kettle was used by me alone. It was never dropped, knocked, treated roughly. It was well looked after and just had no reason to break except inadequate quality.
Though only having a 12 month warranty, the statutory warranty for a product costing this amount of money is easily in excess of 12 months and I believe this would be legally enforceable. I contacted both Harvey Norman and Breville and waited for a reply.
H.N immediately replied and offered a replacement or refund. Amazing customer service. No argument necessary, no fobbing me off to Breville. They just took responsibility and offered to order a new one for me.
While this was happening, Breville called me. The very inexperienced operator told me that these things happen since they manufacture thousands of products. (of course it happens. That's why statutory warranties exist). She told me there was nothing they could do about it, but if I wanted to pay another $60.03, they would send me a replacement. And yes, she did actually say 3 cents.
I more or less told her where she could shove her offer.
I am at the point where I need and want a glass kettle, But I'll be damned if I stand behind and support a company like Breville when Breville can't even stand behind it's own products. No way.
I also own a Breville toaster, Juicer and blender. And I will never again purchase a product from that company. Be warned. You'll have a fight on your hands if something goes wrong.
NOTE: THIS IS THE MORE EXPENSIVE BK290 BREVILLE GLASS KETTLE. for $99.95 Glass, easy to clean Glass not strong enough causing shattering. Inadequate customer service from Breville staff.
Great looking kettle, easy to keep clean and large 1.7L capacity – Our previous kettle was a stainless steel Breville had it for over 8 years and the plastic lid finally snapped off. So when looking at getting a replacement the wishlist was one of those silent models but all the reviews seemed to indicate they are great for a few months then they get louder and louder. So the next best option was a glass unit as… Read more · 1
the old stainless steel Breville was hard to keep clean. This model ticks all the boxes apart from being a little noisy in the mid to late stage of boiling (but not as loud as the old one). The cool factor overrides this and is great to know exactly how much water you have remaining. Very happy with it. Easy to clean, looks great. A little noisy but it is in glass.
