Takes pretty much double the time to cook anything no matter what setting. Took 16 hours to cook a recipe that should have been done in 8
We purchased a Breville Slow Cooker approximately 4 months ago and have used it on a few occasions- we are extremely disappointed with this product. Example- we cooked 2 lamb shanks (thawed) for 6 hours on high and they were cooked but should have… Read more
been falling off the bone but were still tough. We tried cooking more lamb shanks but still the same result.
Follow-up · I have cooked lamb necks a d increased the cooking time by 2 hours and used the high setting the whole time. I put the vegies in at the same time. The lamb was not falling off the bone but was tender and the vegies were cooked but still firm. The old Crockpot I had for years would have had the lamb falling off the bone and the vegies mushy
Absolute waste of money, had the Sunbeam and tossed it out, Good Guys said this was a good brand but same issues, wont sear, wont slow cook with meat still raw. Don't buy one go to Kmart and buy a slow cooker much better value. Show details
I love it but there's one big issue – I absolutely love this slow cooker. The sear function is amazing and I use it after cooking to thicken gravy etc in the pan, so good. I'd love to give it 5 stars but there is a common issue mentioned by customers about this and it's the pan. I am always very careful how I treat my non stick cookware and wash it by hand but after the FIRST use, the… Read more
coating started to come off. That's a serious issue and health hazard. You can buy replacement pans but I'm not going to buy a new pan after every use? It's a pity because the appliance itself is amazing.
Great cooker – Great cooker. Don’t know why there are bad reviews. Is the best thing I’ve added to my kitchen. Very easy to use and does an awesome job every time. All good. Show details
This is fantastic, easy and simple to use – I've cooked beautiful meals that are full of flavour. So easy to have an appliance that sautes and sears then can slow cook using the same pan. As well as serving at the table, then being able to keep warm. Lamb Shanks in red wine. Beef bourginon and Bolognese to name just a few very successful dinners. Show details
Needs better instructions – We thought there was something wrong with the slow cooker at first because it took so long to cook anything compared to our last cooker. After using a thermometer we learned that the low setting was set at 85 degrees Celsius and the high was set at only 95 Celsius (check it for yourself if you don’t believe me). This is much lower than the 150… Read more
degrees I would set for my oven if I were to slow-cook a piece of meat. Knowing the temperatures would have helped me make a better decision around how long to cook for and this is a BIG failing in the instructions for this cooker. Now that I know the temp, I will cook for much longer and see how I go. In short, bad instructions, and btw it takes an hour to reach temperature. Not sure I would buy this product again. Hope this Info helps others.
Not hot enough – So disappointed cause I was looking forward to the 1 pot solution, the large family size and glass lid. BUT the sear function doesn’t get hot enough so the meat boils instead of browning and caramelising. Then the slow cook doesn’t actually cook. Not only does meat remain raw after 8 hours but bizarrely root veg also remain crunchy. Have used it… Read more
many times using different meats/recipes but never cooks through, so I know it’s breville not me. Going to chuck it out.
Takes to long – I brought one of these and through it out months later. Takes to long to cook. I made soup an put it on low at 6.am it still wasn't ready by 7.00pm. Finally decided to do another soup minestrone and had to put it on high all day eventually cooked after 8 hours. Did a roast lamb on low all day still wasn't cooked. Went back to high and low and auto settings excellent choice I made everything cooks great. Show details
Epic Fail Breville – We purchased last year and returned it as we thought it was faulty as the food did not cook on slow even though it was cooking for about 10 hours. The replacement is no better we find we need to cook on high To get the heat up and still allow extra hours, for example we cooked diced Brisket for 8 hours recently on slow and it still required another hour! Will be returning – My last 3 slow cookers have been Breville this one disappoints. . Cannot adjust timing without resetting (you only have 6 or 8 hours) . Searing function disappointing - I got out my frypan and seared in that . Meat didn't seem to cook properly. It looked a bit washed out . I cooked a leg of lamb that I do regularly. Normally I pull the bone out… Read more
after about 5 hrs but after 8 hours I had to cut the bone away with scissors and cut down the meat that was still in chunks (normally I breakdown with a fork) . I do love the glass lid that locks in Unfortunately for me it does not compare with the Breville Flavour maker and will be returning
Easiest slow cooker I have used – Gone are the days of searing in a pan and then transferring to a slow cooker, with this unit I sear perfectly in the same pan then add the rest of the ingredients, I can set it to cook for up to 14 hours with a warming feature so it is ready when we get home and ready for dinner, clean up is a breeze with the non stick coating. I like to make beef… Read more
bone broth for soup and stock and this is perfect for tat with its long cook times, I set when I go to bed and then reset when I wake up and it is ready that night.
Waste of money – Breville always served me well in the past but this slow cooker is an epic fail. The high sear function is pitiful, with a small batch of beef it barely browned it over 15 minutes let alone seared it! I had to put the meat in a pan on the stove to get it seared. During the first hour on slow cook the appliance clicked constantly, the noise was… Read more
so annoying I ended up transferring my meal into a casserole dish & cooking it in the oven. It was probably the element maintaining temperature but no other slow cooker I have owned has ever been noisy like that. This appliance was beyond disappointing and I really don't recommend it.

Doesn’t prepare meals well – Our Kambrook slow cooker ceramic pot cracked, so I though I’d spend 180 on this Breville appliance expecting quality and excellent slow cooked meats. So dissatisfied with the meat. Lamb, pork and beef come out chewy and in some parts over cooked. I can’t even sell it on eBay or gumtree for half the price. Don’t buy one. We’re purchasing another Kambrook for $60. Show details
Non stick coating not up to standard – First use I was very happy with the product, browned nicely and cooked to perfection. The lid seals perfectly and keeps the steam in. However after five uses the non stick coating has scratched right back to the metal. Having used only nylon spoons in the insert I can only presume the coating is faulty and not of a good standard. I have been so… Read more
particular when using the appliance that I put baking paper under the supplied steaming rack to protect the surface of the insert, and when storing in the cupboard I again used baking paper under the steaming tray to avoid any scratches so I was very disappointed when I noticed the scratches.
No flexibility in menu function – The searing function was not hot enough to seal meat properly. In fact, will not cook bacon properly. I bought this model so I could use just one pot or pan but unfortunately, I will now have to resort back to using a frypan to seal the meat. On my old Breville slow cooker I could start my cook on high for an hour or two then switch to low for… Read more
the next 6 hours manually. Not with this model because setting it on high first you have to be around to hear the beeps then reset the program to slow cook. If I start the program on slow cook and decide to put it on high for a while I then have to reset the whole program and take a note of the time already spent on slow. There needs to be a way to program this cooker to 2 hours High then 6 hours low automatically then I can go out and leave it to do it's thing.
The best thing I like about this cooker is the sealing lid, it kept the steam in beautifully.
The steam function is great although not a lot of room to put much food at one time but, it is functionable.
The size and shape is great as I was able to cook 4 very large beef osso bucco in it. It is also very lightweight compared to the old ceramic inserts.
