- Still Works
Its big, bulky, quick heating and easy to clean. Big upgrade on previous models Show details
Worst machine ever – worst toastie maker I have ever used. Don't expect to be able to actually get your toastie out at all, everything sticks to it no matter how little you put in Show details
Like it but – If l have to compare to older jaffle models, they were easier to use, a bit complicated with the timer and warm up but getting the hang of it. As for the actual toasting and press, l cant complain. Design, l like it as it looks more modern and not same old designs you find in jaffle makers. Overall, my only minus is the timer, should have been… Read more
simplified like the past. Plug-Warm up- Toastie in-Ready and eat up. I still love Brevilles brand and continue to stick with them as their products do last a long time
Terrible product – If I could rate it with a zero rating I would! Digital control poorly designed - If you miss the ready light you have to wait for the unit to recycle its warm up process, a process that is painstakingly long Does not seal the toasties - The plate size are made for jumbo sized bread, not the everyday product most of us purchase, hence the toasties… Read more
are not sealed and leak. Definitely not Non Stick - Followed the instructions for seasoning the plates, cleaning and advice on how to make toasties...Everything sticks to the surface. Non stick surface - peeling after 3 months use and only used no more that 4 times. First noticed a small bubble forming, scrapped with finger nail and a section about 10 cm peeled off. It seems the quality workmanship that 'Breville of old' prided itself on no longer exists...
On a positive - Breville offer 12 month replacement, not sure if a replacement will fix the issues with this appliance. I am hoping Harvey Norman will consider my experiences as a major fault and issue a full refund.
Do not waste your money
The pictures show- 1. the non stick properties of the plates 2. peeling non stick surface
Crappy product – This product over complicates the art of the toastie. Timers, buttons and other options. Sorry, I wouldnt recommend this to anyone....
Sweet Merciful Jesus with a Jaffle Maker - This is Terrible! – I just don't know where to start with this abomination of a jaffle maker. It is perhaps the single most negatively discussed appliance in the entire house of 4 people, all of whom are eager jaffle eaters. My first jaffle maker was older than my children, and being a Breville model, everyone in the house affectionately called (and still call) them… Read more
"Brevilles"! That's how you do things right, Breville! It was a perfect machine and lasted near 2 decades. Sadly it died a sudden death due to an electrical failure this year, just before the onset of the Covid19 lockdown disasters that were about to hit. It was a sign of what was to come. We should have listened to its warning. Lives may have been saved.
We reluctantly replaced it with this new unit, purchased from JBHIFI, cautiously optimistic due to what it had to live up to. From the very first test, it was clear it never had a chance.
Let's just jump straight into the issues, shall we? The Timer: Great idea, terrible implementation. The finicky warmup period with its spinning indicator has led this house to the brink of global conflict. Miss the the warmup, overshoot the mark or hit the wrong button and you're in for days of button mashing trying to get it set again. Do away with it entirely and just let people check on the toasting progress manually, you know, like how it used to be done.
The Nonstick Surface: I hesitate to call it that, because everything sticks to it. Our previous unit was practically made entirely of a nonstick surface. NOTHING stuck to it. You could fire bunker-buster missiles at it and it wouldn't scratch and things would separate from the surface perfectly. This unit? Bread sticks to it. Cheese sticks, ham sticks, butter sticks, egg sticks, air sticks, time sticks to it. This thing is a blackhole of stickiness - noting can escape it's sticky gravitational pull.
The Bread Size: The toasting areas are larger than any bread loaves I can buy. Because of this, the edges of the jaffle are never sealed and that makes the jaffle difficult to remove without falling apart (assuming they aren't permanently stuck anyway) and limits what you can put in your sandwiches. Also, because of the large size and sealing issue, I can't make my favourite egg jaffle! Egg just pours out the sides as you make it. I haven't had a decent egg jaffle all year! Now you know why I'm so aggro. Don't even get me started...
In conclusion, I demand Breville cease all jaffle maker research and development immediately, and instead focus on creating a time machine so they can go back to the 80's/90s and remember what they used to make back then. And most importantly, if you want to give us a unit that makes 4 jaffle at once, at least make 2 of them split and 2 non split please, so I can enjoy a nice big toasted egg jaffle once more.
Good one – I have bought it a month ago and I am loving my toasties. I was not fond of sandwiches before but now I m trying different one every day. Good quality as well. Show details
Soggy Breville! – Every time I do a toasted sandwich, it sticks to the plates ,the top is okay but the bottom of the sandwich is soggy , it you have to get it out in pieces a cooked mess. Even spraying the plates before cooking does not help. is there a better choice . My husband won't use it any more. Show details
Too easy to use! – It takes about a minute or less to make the perfect toastie. Can't live without it! It makes beautiful toasted sandwiches and very easy to clean - I would use a disinfectant wipe and it would do the trick. It even works on the thickest of slices of bread. So, so worth it! Waste of money – This seemed to meet all my requirements, but after minimal use, all the non-stick coating is coming away along the centre cutting edge and everything now sticks destroying the toasties.
Good, but flawed – Like most children of the 80’s, I grew up with fond memories of the Breville toastie maker. It’s presence in most homes was so ubiquitous that for most of my generation, there was no concept of ‘jaffles’, only ‘Brevilles’. A cheese and baked bean Breville was a thing of joy, especially on a cold afternoon after sport! What set the Breville apart… Read more
was the ‘slice and seal’ action, which kept any runny elements inside and not all over the place. An unfortunate side effect of this was a volcanic effect - I have lost count of how many times I burnt the roof off of my mouth due to the cheesy lava inside. Small price to pay, and a good way to teach patience... Which leads me to the current product I am reviewing. At first glance it seems to tick all the boxes - larger capacity (4 v 2); automatic countdown timer; super power (2000watts v 1000watts of the original); cut and seal. However, the results are not consistent with expectations. Using plain white bread (the gold standard when making jaffles), I encountered 2 issues. Firstly, the outside did not crisp up as much as it should. This was despite using a small amount of butter on the outside (as all good jaffles require). The result of this can be seen when removing the jaffle - when levering up the jaffle from an outside corner ( the preferred method), it would bend due to the degree of sogginess. Second, once removed, a jaffle should be able to be separated into its 2 halves by bending across the slice and seal line - at which the crisp line should snap easily. With the Power Toastie, this is not possible - I have had to use a knife each time to halve them cleanly. I am unsure as to whether this is an issue with the slice and seal action itself, a temperature issue (not hot enough to crisp up properly), or both. I know that this is not an issue with the smaller Original or Original ‘74, as I have one if these also, so am tempted to buy another Original so that I can make 4 at once (as I have 3 kids under 7...) So for those new to Jaffles, this may be sufficient for your needs, however if this will be a little bit of nostalgia for the Gen X’ers out there, I would recommend the Original’74
