I bought this with great expectations, if you can make a toasty in a pan, this purpose built appliance must be batter right? Wrong. Flat bottom (GOOD) ribbed top (BAD) it heats up really quickly but still doesn't toast the bread nicely, irrespective how much butter you spread on the outside. Then to top it off, I stupidly dropped it and the handle… Read more

broke. Despite having bought it a few months earlier, I find out it's OBSOLETE and NO spares available. And don't try and talk to Sunbeam, they only want your money. Had it not been for the obsolescence I'd give it a 3 STAR rating. Off to buy a Breville.

You can do just about anything with this grill , sandwiches , toast bread, eggs, bacon, steak, you name it . I am replacing two units I have, one is an overpriced Tefal Optigrill and a Breville Toast & Melt Sandwich Press . I did a review of the Tefal so you can check that out, and the Breville was an older model which is still current, the only… Read more ·  1

downside on that one was there was no variable height adjuster , it was in fixed increments and a bit uneven . The Sunbeam however has a lot going for it, nice flat plates, a lip on the bottom plate so you can do eggs etc without half of it ending up on the floor, 2400W of power and that nice variable adjustment top plate which can be locked in place at any height, and of course a 2 year warranty all at an affordable price. I , so far, have done sandwiches , a long roll and a steak on this grill. without squashing the life out of them and that is why I bought it, I wanted cafe style sandwiches and rolls not compressed food wafer thin. When doing the long roll though, I found in order to get the top grill to sit flat you needed to place the roll towards the rear of the plate, no big deal, and it worked fine. I can't think of any negatives at the moment only to say it's a reasonable price and your not paying for AI, flashing lights and numerous other things that are of questionable use. After all , it's just a grill , with two hot plates . Highly recommended

More than a sandwich press – Tried the 4-slice sandwich press and maker in it’s obvious way - for a grilled cheese toastie and then as a pan, making some eggs with baked beans. Quite happy with it, the lid works well and it was really easy to clean afterwards. Happy that I went for 4 pieces, making it easier to cook up a few things at once (think brekkie board with eggs,… Read more

tomatoes, mushrooms). Pretty much makes the frying pan redundant!

Haven’t used it for long yet, but seems quite sturdy as well as practical to store (an upright position is helpful).

Best small appliance – I was given this product to test and it’s been amazing. It works well to not only cook food but also to reheat food! The heating plates have a little depth so I can add a bit of liquid to help steam then sear my veges with the grill marks. Toasties also taste fantastic with the grill plates…. We also love using the sandwich press to reheat cold pizzas and hot chips.

Overall, the Sunbeam sandwich press exceeded my expectations. The heat plates ensure the food is cooked evenly and the grill marks provide a nice touch.

Compact, perfect for small kitchens and easy to use! – I’m very happy with my new sandwich maker. It heats up very fast, and the height control lever is such a great feature. No more squished wraps for breakfast! So good. The non-stick surface and the round corners are game changer, it makes it very easy to clean. I highly recommend this product! Show details

Large heavy and messy but sometimes feels convenient - but is it really? – I bought one of these in June. As soon as I got it out and moved the lid up and down and worked out how the locking mechanism worked I said to myself that's the first thing that will go - it got steadily looser and looser and now only really works on one side. This is not a deal breaker, but it means that most of the weight of the lid sits fully… Read more

on the food. This works for steaks and sandwiches but you need to rely on your egg rings to stop the lid squashing your eggs flat, for instance. Now six months later the handle just broke on one side. Again, you can still use it but it's now flappy on that side and you have to lift it from the other side. Not a good look. We've been using it pretty consistently. It's had a lot of use, maybe almost every day for some periods, but by no means what a cafe would put it through.

There is no off button which is probably a plus because it's simpler and no switch to get greasy. Just switch it on at the wall.

There is only one temperature. If you think the temperature is too hot and it's cooking your meat too quickly, there's nothing you can do about it. I think it's about right; sometimes I want to turn it down but can't.

It's great for eggs. You can just switch it on and throw the egg rings on, give them a spray of oil, and then crack the eggs in. But you can do that in a pan as well. If you have a gas cooker it's probably cheaper to use a pan than heating this whole griller up on both sides just to do your eggs, but it seems convenient, just for eggs, because there's little mess from eggs, you can wipe the plate afterwards with a paper towel, and not much else to do. But you could do that with a pan too, honestly.

But this griller is big enough for a couple of steaks, and you can do 4 burgers together, and that's great, but here's where you notice the grease. The thing gets very greasy all over. Of course there's a catch tray but when you lift the lid it drips behind the griller onto the work top, and it gets all over the cable and the hinges which are hell to clean. The thing is never really clean once you start doing meat in it.

Then there's the grooves in the top section. It's supposed to be a positive that you get stripes on your food. Pretend it's BBQ or something. But those grooves get burnt food stuck in them and are hell to clean. Cleaning the top is horrible because it flaps around inside the hinge so you have to kind of steady it at a wierd angle against a wall to stop if flapping about while you try to clean it. I wish the plates were removable, or lockable, or opened 180' so you could lay it flat. Cleaning the flat bottom plate is fine.

If you don't have a cooker at all, and you want a portable electric grill that can do eggs and steaks then I guess this is a great solution to make cooking possible, but otherwise I'd rather have a pan. The thing takes a lot of space on the worktop and is difficult to clean. It doesn't really do toasties like the smaller toasties do. It doesn't seal in the filling like those other ones do. It's a different kind of toasting. Overall I've felt like it's done good service over 6 months but now it's falling apart, I'm fed up of it taking up so much space, it's always greasy, and I'm thinking I'd be better off using a fry pan. I might get a smaller toastie maker instead and throw this away.

A man's best friend – Started the carnivore diet last month and thought this would be great addition for early morning breakfasts instead of firing up the BBQ everyday. has even led to me cooking a few steaks on the it in the evening (which I would normally consider blasphemous). But the additional heat plate on top actually gives an even sear on both sides and essentially cooks the steak twice as fast. Now my missus is in on the act. She likes to put half the fridge in her toasted sandwiches so previous sandwich makers never worked for her and she would end up using the oven. But the AnyHeight control is a game changer for her as she gets perfect even toasting without compromising the "structure" of the sandwich. Only regret is that I didn't get the 4 or 6 slice to allow me cook more at once, although when you live in a Sydney apartment, space is at a premium.

Is there anything it can't do? – I've been using the Subeam sandwich press and grill for almost a month now and have got to say it's impressed me. morning. It heats up to temperature quickly and once I'm finished with my breakfast the non-stick surface takes no time at all to clean with a damp cloth before getting on with my day. The top lid is quite heavy for a sandwich press but that's not a problem with the locking mechanism giving you the ability to set the lid height at any position, and once its set it stays exactly where you left it. So there's no excuse for your toasted sandwich coming out a squashed mess. Infact I don't think Ive ever made a better grilled cheese toasty. While it would be a worthy addition to anyones kitchen bench I could really see this press being particularly useful in a small apartment as it can be used in so many different ways and replace several other appliances helping to save on space. I could also see it being useful in a workplace kitchenette where there may not be in built appliances. When it came time to reveiw the Sunbeam Cafe style sandwich press I was torn as to whether I should give it 5 stars or not as it really is such a fantastic sandwich press/grill, especially for the price. However I would need to give it a little more time to see just how durable it is before giving it 100% pass (not that it has given me any reason to doubt it). If you're in the market for a good quality sandwich press that can do it all at reasonable price, I don't think you will be dissapointed with the Sunbeam Cafe Style series. I certainly wasn't.

- The lever doesn't really work, it squashes things, so imo its not the ideal tool for making jaffles (which is the only thing I use it for), that said im sure you could easily cook eggs or whatever you wanted on it... its also extremely hot, and it gets there extremely fast.. sounds like a pro but its scary hot.. I make sure not to turn it on until my food is ready to go straight on, and am a bit paranoid I'll leave it on one day and it will melt components.

I am in rental awaiting my new home to be built & hate the oven & cooktop here, so I bought the Sunbeam Cafe Style Sandwich Press & Maker in August 2024. It has well & truly paid for itself, over & over again. I have made so many meals on it, of all types. I especially love making wraps, with either egg or cheese in the middle. I have re-heated pizza & baked beans, etc. I just love it & is so quick & easy to make a meal. Well done Sunbeam. Show details ·  1

Almost perfect – Recently replaced our old sandwich toaster for this beaut upgrade. tops, it’s a simple and effective solution. My only issue is the 4 sandwich thing, they must be small slices to fit in. If you expect to fit any hi top bread you will need to accept only 2 at a time which means longer cooking time. The smooth heat surfaces and perfect as they are so easy to clean, you can even do an omelette in it. And lastly it heats up super fast.

not feel like the cheap one you can find at Kmart. It feels like a heavy-duty sandwich press that you find in a cafe.

Out of curiosity, I used both machines to make the same sandwich and wanted to see if there’s any different. The heat up time was about the same. However, the new sandwich press comes with a lever that you can adjust the height freely which made such a different. With this feature my sandwich is less squash compared with the one in the old machine. As you can see the cheese fell out and melted on the plate. The toasted area is more even compare with the one cooked by the old machine. Overall I like it, it’s simple to use and does the job well.

The bottom is flat and the top is ribbed so you get the best of a flat sear and grill marks. Huge bonus !. The detached drip tray does not feel as high end as the rest of the grill. The top plate made beautiful sear marks on cooked steak and kept juices inside the cafe sandwich maker. Clean up was a breeze and the opening for juices to overflow is a great addition. This grill was made for making pancakes. They came out beautifully. Recommend highly to anyone. Also, tried fried egg that developed a crusty bottom, however, it stuck to the plate. Easy, quick and compact – A good mix of size, ease of use and functionality. It is ready to go in about 2 minutes and sustains a even amount of heat throughout. Size wise, the ability to store this vertically on it's two feet makes it easy to store in a kitchen cupboard. The best part is the ability to set the height at whatever you want, which gives you the option of heating the toppings without having to clean the top plate. It doesn't need to cost a bomb to be good – Sandwich presses have evolved to be intelligent smart cooking grills these days - with the price tag to match. coatings appear excellent, the hinge mechanism is solid, and the controls are .. well, non-existent :). Plug it in, wait for the green light and away you go. No fancy computerised controllers, LCD displays, buttons etc. Accordingly the price is also still very reasonable. You can have this larger version for around a hundred bucks, which is excellent value considering what some other options in this size category cost due to their overblown features.

Griddle plate on top, flat surface on bottom, so you get the best of both worlds, plus a slide out fat catching pan which allows you to cook some juicer/fattier foods. The best feature in addition to older models however is the locking hinge, which has a simple lever to lock the top into any position. Perfect for just floating the top above your food for fast heatup, or applying firm pressure to something you want grilled.

I think if this lasts even half as long as our previous version, Sunbeam continues to be on a definite winner with this. Very happy with this purchase.

that’s what I’m going for. The thing is, it’s up to me to decide, not your press. I found that the heat is spread quite evenly on the top and bottom, so no sides are extra burned. Kitchen Staple – You just have to have a toasted sandwich maker in your kitchen. It’s as important as the kettle and toaster. If you’re in the market for one, this model is a great option. We have the 6 slice version in an empty nester home, just the 2 of us. But of course kidults and their friends/partners/wives inevitably drop in unannounced around lunch time.… Read more

As long as there is bread in the house, we can always manage a toasty for all of some sort. Ham, cheese, tomato is a favourite but you can use whatever’s availability. Try banana and honey - yum.

The “ Cafe Style” Sandwich Maker takes about 3 minutes to warmup to optimal heat, indicated by a light on the top. So if you plug in an turn it on, it’s ready by the time you’ve made your sandwiches. Slide them on with a silicon egg flipper, close the lid, and in 2 minutes lunch is served. Easy, delicious, everybody loves them.

With 6 sandwiches on there ( ok we only had 5 max so far) you can simply close the lid and let it do it’s thing. With only 2, it’s best to use the leaver lock thing on the side to adjust the height otherwise the weight of the lid will flatten your toasties a bit too much.

Cleaning the bottom plate after making toasties is very simple. It’s nonstick so wiping with a wet cloth is quick and easy, best when the plate is still a bit warm. However, I reckon if the corrugated top plate had wavy corrugations ( like a tin roof) instead of very angular ones, it would make it easier to clean. I have to run my wet cloth down each of the deep corrugations to get all the gunk out.

So that’s toasties done. And I give it a 9/10 so far.

Now if using it as a grill, well it does the job. We cooked chicken, bacon, halloumi, zucchini, onion, Indian roti to name a few. Does a great, quick job with all. Leaves the grill lines on your food which always looks good. Would be excellent for burger patties. With the zucchini though, because the slices were different thicknesses the thinner ones didn’t contact the top plate so no grill lines. So make whatever you put on the same thickness for best results.

My issue with using as a grill is the cleaning afterwards. Yes if the food is very fatty the grease runs down and collects in the slide out tray that you can throw in the dishwasher. But as with the toasties, the bottom plate is pretty easy to clean, but the top plate takes a bit of effort if you’ve grilled meat. It might look clean but use a damp white paper towel and you’ll see that you really have to get into each deep corrugation to truly clean the plate. It takes quite some time so I’d rather do the grilling on a bbq or just use a fry pan you can throw in the dishwasher.

So as a griller I say 7/10.

But we’ve had a similar appliance before and 99% of its use is for making toasties. For that, it’s a great product. Can stand vertically for storage if you need to keep it on the bench but we’ve got ours in a large pantry draw lying flat.

We really couldn’t do without a toasted sandwich maker, and this current Sunbeam Cafe Style 6-Slice Sandwich Maker Grill & Press does the job very well.

Fair Incentive Verified Ambassador Review 2-Slice GRM2000SS

Genuinely surprised at how good this machine is – I was pleasantly surprised to be chosen under the Ambassador program to receive and review the Sunbeam 2-Slice Sandwich Press & Maker. To be honest, I kinda thought “a sandwich press is a sandwich press, but sure, lets give it a shot.” First thing out of the way, the only disappointment with the whole thing, it comes packed with polystyrene… Read more

packaging and in a plastic bag. I really wish manufacturers would discontinue this and use cardboard where packing is required. It’s easier to recycle and better for the environment.

Anyhoo. The build quality of this machine is amazing. It everything about it feels sturdy, even the plastics. The machine feels heavy, but not unnecessarily so.

Small feature that I thought was well thought out is that the machine can be stood on its side. Yes, some other sandwich makers and snack makers also do this, but this one is actually sturdy.

The killer feature of this machine that won me is the hinge mechanism. Every other sandwich press I have used either has a mechanism with fixed settings, or just sit (aka crush) on top of the bread.

This mechanism is completely customisable. You lower the press to exactly where you want it, press the lever and it stays exactly there. I have toasted hot cross buns which have come out still fluffy, and been able to make amazing melts by lowering the press to just above the cheese. Amazing.

Talking of the melts, when making the first one, I lowered the press a little too much and it made contact with the cheese. I thought this would have been a nightmare to clean up, but a piece of paper towel with a little water, and this wiped off. The non-stick on this is amazing.

Only wish is for a on/off button to be on the machine. Yes, I know, most sandwich presses and snack makers don’t have them, but my previous sandwich press did and it came in quite handy.

While I was gifted this by Product Review in return for an honest review, I would have no issues purchasing it. I have paid $130 for a sandwich press before, and this Sunbeam knocks it out of the park (kinda feel like I wasted my money on it after using this Sunbeam).

Purchase it. Seriously, you won’t regret it.
