New models are not always better – The previous ovens were good and all they needed was an oven light. This model has a light but that is the only positive about it. It is smaller so you cannot use all your tins and trays that fitted in the old ovens. The first three of this model which we bought were faulty and much more expensive than the earlier ones. Breville asked if we had solar power. We don't, but question what good is an appliance that doesn't work with solar. Unlike the others, this model takes a long time to reach temperature and you have to ignore the warning beep and use a thermometer to ensure it is on the correct temperature.

Purchased at The Good Guys.

Love it – Well designed. Heats up quickly and menu options work well.. So good that we don't use our main oven except for Christmas..

Excellent oven for a large variety of baking. Longevity is short – Have had 3 units in the past 12 years. Every one developed excessive fan noise and one unit had a heating element die. The sad thing is that Breville cannot fix the fan noise issue after all these years: I just returned one as it was brand new, noisy out of the box !

Great for a small household – Easy enough for a teenager to use, therefore used daily. Love the easy to read dials and minimal need to use a manual. I also like the cooking demonstrations on YouTube, I would never have thought you could fit a chicken in this. Not 5 stars because I would like the broiler and an additional pizza tray and it is inconvenient the only way you can get these items is online and not a shop. The tray pops out when you open it so you don't have to fully put your hands in the oven when trying to remove items. This is a nice bonus feature. Looking forward to using the slow cook feature.

Purchased in at Bing Lee Online store for $299.

The fan forced feature started to make a very distinct rattling noise exactly a year after purchase so now just use conventional oven setting. Still love this little oven and use it daily

Permanent fixture, 1st one has lasted 6 years – We bought this to avoid using our large double oven too much and it's been perfect. Just large enough to grill enough meat for a family of four, or bake some banana bread, whilst efficienlty using the energy. Perfect for making things like a tray of fish fingers or potato gems. Gets hot to the touch, but this is expected. After about 4 years the convection fan rattled, then died. It's posssible I could fix this but the thing has accumulated a fair bit of grease at this point ~6 years and still working.

We're about to order another one if we can find the right price, it's RRP is a bit steep at $499, but we paid around $400 or less, and it has been a bargain for what it does. 22L is just big enough, I might look at a sunbeam (which are cheaper) but suspect I would regret it, this has been a solid unit.

Purchased in for $399.

Finally the new one arrived and I have to say we are a little disappointed. They have updated the oven with a double layer oven door, which has cut more than an inch in depth of available space. The grill trays etc from the previous BOV845 are larger and will not fit into the new BOV850, leaving us with about ~4cm less cooking space. Still, I'm sure the upgrades will help with temperature consistency or the chance of someone burning themselves (as badly) on the door, which still gets very hot, but a little annoyed. The exterior dimensions are the same on both, but the interior is smaller front to back.
