I bought brand new from Big W for $189. And it's a lemon! First time I use it; stitches keep reversed backward. I followed the instruction on Brother website, still done the same. Please avoid buying this rubbish sewing machine! I'll take to opshop who knows someone can fix it!

Purchased at Big W for $189.

Plastic Parts are easy to break ! – The Presser foot lever & the Bobbin cover * They are the most frequently used parts of the sewing machine, unlike the traditional sewing machines, they are made with PLASTIC in Brother JA1400. It is no good, they are easy to break.

Perfect for what I was wanting – Purchased on sale from Big W and is exactly what I need. I use it for general sewing and simple dress making which is all I need it for. It also very cute! Have used it to hem some clothing and curtains, which it worked well for. Unfortunately came with a CD with further instructions, but I no longer have a CD player to watch it! The YouTube videos were helpful though. The bobbins are also plastic, which may be a deterrent to some.

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH ! – I got this sewing machine because the one I had for over 30 years finally gave up and it was going to cost more to fix it than it would be to buy a new one. I decided on the Brother JA1400 and really wished I hadn't. It has never stopped looping the cotton underneath the fabric even though I have "trouble-shooted" using the manual and YouTube. I can see that I have done everything to set up the machine correctly and know the fabric tension requirements, but no. Nothing works. The thread keeps looping. What a load of rubbish. Don't bother buying one of these. They are only good enough to be used as a paperweight. >:-/
