Good starter machine – I have had this machine for sometime. Plus side it is easy to use, I struction book excellent , one of the very best I have had. Very plainly explained. Comes with a full set of attachments and have not needed to buy any extras at all. Cons. It does not use a usb , so you cannot plug a usb straight into the machine to transfer designs. … Read more
you can connect it to a pc by included cable but my pc is a desk top and nowhere near it so have to use a lap top and floppy disk set to store files to send to the machine.
The memory on the machine is way to small.
There is no colour screen on the machine which I find a complete pain. Just black and white so it makes it hard to visualise the embroidery in colour. Brother do not make an upgrade for this feature and they should. So if you want this feature you are forced to buy a new machine. Within weeks they brought out the colour version . Too late for me and very very annoying.
You have to buy cards with designs and they are very very expensive £60+ each! a blank one is same price.
The cards are now not being made because the newer machines do t need them. Would I buy this machine again, no I would not because of these Cons. However if the cons don't bother you, it is a good basic machine.
I love the versatility of this machine – An affordable and easy-to-use sewing and embroidery machine. It came with a good set of standard accessories for both the sewing and the embroidery. The learning curve for machine embroidery was steep, but the good news is that there are plenty of websites around the world that tackle this subject. I had an extremely hard time obtaining a… Read more
carry/storage case for the detachable embroidery unit, and have recently found that it can now be ordered through your local authorised Brother Dealer. The handbook tells you to contact your Dealer to get the machine serviced at regular intervals, and whilst the machine keeps a count of total embroidered stitches it has sewn, there is no information anywhere on what level of stitch count or other items to watch for to determine that a service is due. This means it is left entirely up to your Dealer; and every dealer has a different idea of when it should be serviced. Don't bother contacting Brother Australia - they just refer you to your nearest Dealer (mine is 200km away so this isn't necessarily easy either). If a car manufacturer pulled a stunt like this, no-one would buy their car! So, yes, I love the features and flexibility as well as the price, but I do stress the importance of closely reading the online manual for this machine and ask some questions before you buy it. Make sure you feel confident with your Dealer before purchasing. If there are any other items you are unsure of, clarify them with Brother (who will tell you to contact your Dealer anyway, so find a trustworthy, reputable Dealer who is prepared to work with you without ripping you off with unnecessary servicing of your machine) before investing.
Uncomplicated and fantastic – Purchased this machine nearly 18 months ago. Have used this for many quilt and embroidery projects. For professional tailoring has been excellent in every way. I have had to purchase extra's for the machine which has been an advantage for optional attachments. One of the best applications about this model that I found is that it's uncomplicated… Read more
and easy to use. Quilting/Emborideryand sewing. Makes tailoring a gem.. I'm not sure whether you can upgrade on this machne like many others. This model could quite easily have a coloured LCD screen.
