Calamine Lotion

brilliant – I use Calamine lotion on my face after electrolysis- it is the only product that stops the itching ( which can last for days and days) and it also reduces the redness. I have tried all sorts of creams and potions - one retails for over $60, but the itch came back after about 3 hours with that one ( I used my scientific method of putting one product on one side and calamine lotion on the other ). It is mildly antiseptic ( I think thats the zinc) so keeps infections to a minimum too. You do have to leave it on and so its best for night time or when you don't have to go out anywhere
Works for me – I've tried a few products over the years to lessen the effect of kangaroo and pepper tick bites and have found that calamine lotion works best so far. It only takes five minutes to stop the itching and reduces the urge to scratch and aggravate the bite area. Best to apply it over a few days - will try the fridge idea - thanks piscean. Inexpensive and safe to use, very effective for insect bites
Good – I always keep a bottle of calamine lotion in the fridge and have done for the last few years. It is very good at calming insect bites and taking the itching away, but it needs to be used a few times a day to be effective. Straight from the fridge it is cooling and soothing right away but it does take a few minutes to work on bites. Unfortunately it is not invisible so as it dries it leaves pink patches on your skin where you put it but it is a very gentle old classic remedy which works very well. works well on insect bites to settle and remove itch takes a few minutes to work
Terrible – Although this is a safe remedy for itchiness that works on many people, I did not find it helped me at all. I definitely would not put it on a sunburn as it is not cooling, and for me it does not stop insect bites from growing into bumps or itching. I'm probably more prone to allergic reactions than the general population, so I may not be typical, and I would definitely recommend other people give it a try. It's not expensive, readily available and without side effects, and if you have no success you can always move on to another solution. This is a well-established remedy for itchiness, and, as such, it is known to be safe and without side effects. It is readily available at any pharmacy and is not expensive. For me, it simply doesn't work. It has no effect on insect bites (which continue to grow into angry, itchy bumps) or any other itchiness. Also, the pink liquid can stain clothes and is easily visible on the skin.
