Decent for the price – Good for the price, but there's definitely better options out there. Has served me well as my first camera for 5 years, but has been frustrating in quite a few areas. Positives: - The 45× zoom is great - When conditons are bright, you can get some pretty good photos - Compact size makes it easy to bring with you Negatives: - Really struggles with low light, producing blurry images when the weather is anything less than bright and sunny - Has trouble focusing on the right thing when you zoom in - Can't change a lot of camera settings - No (well, very slow so it doesn't really count) continuous shooting - When you don't zoom in to something (for example, taking photos of a landscape) the quality isn't great, and any modern smartphone would take a much better photo - After 5 years the lens isn't functioning properly and I can no longer take photos (unsure if this is a common issue or if it got damaged somehow)

Purchased in for $389.

very disappointed – image quality is very poor, I bought this camera to replace a very Canon camera but the image quality of my old camera is far superior to the SX430IS. Very disappointment, a true waste of money

Good camera for that price range – I bought this camera in a rush when my Canon SX70 stopped working in a trip. It should be around $300 but I paid $395 in Kununurra where there is only one shop selling cameras. Of course, it doesn't work as well as SX70. It includes that it doesn't focus well on where you would like to shoot. When the light is darker, the quality is not even as good as a mobile camera.

However, I do like this camera a lot for the following two points. 1st: It is much lighter and smaller than SX70; 2nd: With some a small version of camera, it goes up to 45 optical zoom. It can shoot something in a long distance if the light is not too bad.

So in general, it suits my need during the rest of my trip although I have to use my mobile camera to take photos when in cloudy day or around sunset time.

Purchased in for $395.

You won't get a better camera in this price range – This camera is great. At under $300AUD. Nothing else comes near it for value. I know, I've been looking for almost 3 years. Light weight with an excellent though not silent, 45 x optical zoom, producing fine quality photos, it will suit all but pros (who might need; super enlargements, more manual control or super-fast action). You can set it on "Auto" and have your easy to use "point and shoot" (which we use) or "Live" which gives you the ability to change more settings for more technical and artistic shots. As with most digital cameras, it doesn't always know what to focus on but with time to re-frame the shots, we usually get a good one

We've used it on 2 road trips now and are really happy with the results.

love it
