A lot of hassles and hidden fees

You have to have data on your phone which they don't mention about it in the first place.
The car I rented is cheap but shirty.
Hidden charges like petrol (they said it free!), kms for traveling, cleaning, worn tire, insurance.... I deposited $150 but only got half back because of those fees. No explanation either.
They charged $50/day depends on your rented car. Never again

Good customer service, payments were all as agreed with some discounts (even better). We have been to the beach, work-home trips, hospital visits and mostly IKEA/groceries shopping with the cars.

Great option to normal car hire

This is such a great option to have. The app is very easy to use and it is clear what you are booking when making the booking. It provides such flexibility and love the fact that there is zero interaction required! I have used twice now and both times were positive experiences - both vehicles were as described and pictured and the process was very smooth. Will definitely be using again when needed.

Great and convenient alternative to rental cars

Payments handled professionally and very transparent. Pretty clear what you pay for and how it's processed.
Vehicles are as described, and the rental process works seamless.. I found that I like paying private people more than paying big rental car companies (with usually not so friendly staff).

How much easier would it be.....

I have some dear friends who said - use Car Next Door - its brilliant, so I did and I have never looked back.
The system is easy to use, well thought out and highly addictive once you have used it once.
We need a van and we can borrow one that is 5 mins from home that is clean, airconditioned and has lots of needed stuff in it like hygiene wipes, trolley and octopus straps.
Well worth taking the plunge and getting into this one.

used twice with no problems. easy to use format. lots of options to upload photos of cars before/after booking so you have no liability. payments are reasonable and assuming doing less than ~30km a day on par with car rental companies.

Could not get me verified in time to make booking
People on chat are useless and just tell you to 'wait' regardless of the urgency
When trying to call, wait times are >1hr (despite saying only 4 minutes at the beginning)
Then finally, account still not verified more than 24 hours later! (This is despite them claiming to have it done within 3 business hours)
Ridiculous and just a crap company. Quality speaks for itself.

What a great service! So handy. As it turned out, the car I rented was literally the car next door! Refund of Bond and any other money owing was very prompt and they were super quick to reply to any queries that I had. Would definitely recommend.

I asked help for generating lockbox code from the owner of the car and your help centre but nobodu helped me and you charged me $35 for not using the car even for 1 minute. This doesnt fit business ethics.

They charge astronomical hidden fees to your ride, expect to pay 4-5 times what is listed when you book in the App. You would think with the amount that they rip people off they would have the customer service to deal with all the complaints... they don't. When you are inevitably 'taken for a ride' by this company, good luck trying to get in touch with someone from the customer service team! Don't make the same mistake I did.

Easy to book a ute for a weekend move, some ux is still a little clunky but overall experience is great.

I think the service is still new so will polish and improve, but generally I love this.

$200 payment deducted from my account due to "cleaning fees". Mark on sear could have been wiped off with cloth. No opportunity to resolve issue. No interest in resolving this!

Ive been told that Car Next Door Owners have fleets of cars ( up to thirty) that they rent. So rather than living "next door" they live elsewhere and the cars take rare inner city parking spots. Given the rather high number of renters claiming that the vehicle they hired was damaged after it was returned, is it possible that frustrated residents are systematically damaging the cars? Don't you think the owners should actually live " next door" and sign out the car on hire and return to prevent disputes about damage and to prevent fleet owners abusing the concept?

I'm sorry Simon, I have no idea. I rented a van that was close to my daughter's apartment, that was my main criteria. I left it in a 2 hour parking zone, which the owner then went to to sort out the parking. I assume that means he lived very close to the drop off point. Living in an inner city area means you regularly can't actually park very near you home.

Thanks Jaysee. No doubt some owners live locally and legitimately rent there car which is fine and a good idea. Also in this instance it would be possible to inspect the car with the owner so when you left you get no unpleasant surprises which a lot of renters seem to get when damage is attributed to them. My point was about people with multiple cars leveraging the concept to the detriment of locals. Additionally most hirers are told to leave the car in areas with no parking restrictions.
