Review and INFO! – I LOVE my 2006 v5, but it does have it's shortcomings. Overall, it's a great little bike! Technically, it is a bike not a scooter. ALL scooters have small wheels and a step through body design with a very low center of gravity. That said, I'll move on. Some of the parts are cheap, but it's not a high quality machine as the price tag reveals. … Read more

It IS however, worth every penny of the cost. It rides quite nicely, has decent enough acceleration (Remember, it IS a cruizer, and it's only a 250cc), and handles just like a small cruiser should. My only complaints are the fuel gauge, which is well known to read faulty or not at all, the vacuum operated petcock (2 faulty in a year, did away with it and made a manual one out of one of them.), the lack of a tachometer and the stereo which is junk (But the speaker system is surprisingly decent. Ported boxes with speakers rated at 30w). I replaced the fuel gauge with a digital unit that also has a tach for $16 USD (Killed 2 problems there), and replaced the stereo head unit with another for $15 USD, but used the bikes speaker system. Both I found on eBay.

I'd recommend this bike to anyone looking for their first bike, or anyone looking for something to cheaply travel short to medium distances with good looks and decent comfort. 4 out of 5 stops I make, someone comes up to me and compliments the looks of the bike, asks about it and ultimately where they can get one!

I wanted to write this review to post all the info I have gathered on my v5. I hope it will help others who are looking for info on theirs. This is info I have gathered while replacing or upgrading parts. It's mostly a grab bag, but may be useful for you. You can find a pdf version of the Service Manual readily on a Google search, and I recommend you get it, it can be helpful and contains a lot of info.

Places I found for parts:

ebay

www.partsforscooters.com

www.scooterpartsexpress.com

www.scrappydogscooters.com

alpha-sports.com (Look under PARTS DIAGRAMS for CF MOTO for complete diagrams of entire bike. They sell original CF Moto factory parts.). They are however quite expensive.

Also sold as a Q-Link Legacy and Cruze v9

Misc Parts Info:

LC CN250 172mm engine.

Clone of the old Honda Helix 250 engine, most all Honda Helix/Fusion parts fit.

CVT Drive Belt 1000 24.2 30 OR 980 24.2 30 for more speed (Unconfirmed)

35w/35w halogen headlamp bulb BA20D base.

You CAN replace with a 45/40Ww BA20D halogen (You MUST remove the rubber cap and replace with a piece of 1.5"/38mm PVC about 1"/25mm tall to shield contacts and other wires from heat. Do not cap it, so bulb base can vent.)

Plug - NGK DPR7EA-9 (5629 DP7EA-9).

CDI is DC and unrestricted.

Keihin Carb Clone 30mm continuous vacuum draw. SigmaRacing sells a upgrade kit for v5 that I have and highly recommend if you are willing to also remove airbox, install a free flow foam air filter, header pipe and free flow muffler.

Battery - YTX12AH-BS (YTX14AH-BS will fit if installed from the side/back) 6-1/8"W x 3-1/2"L x 6"H max will fit.

Rectifier is larger then Honda's V star.

Stator is same as V star, 240w (12A?) @ 7000 RPM.

Hydraulic front & rear brakes, DOT 4 fluid. Brakes are standard type so can be upgraded in pads or bimbo brakes etc.

High end Chinese tires, 100/90/18 front & 150/80/15 rear.

Rear Shocks - Stock 10.5" (265mm)

Can go as high as 12" (305mm)

Max Diameter 2.5"

Shock Mount Bolts 14mm

Shock Mount Bolt Lenght (Without threaded end) 20mm

Spring Diameter 7.5mm (Stock)

Emgo Chrome Custom Shorty Shocks w/Covers - 17-05693 (Can find as cheap as $55 USD) fit nicely, BUT the bushing sleeves have to be replaced. I found sleeves that would fit on EBay (self lubricating composite bearing bushing sleeve SF-1 14mm * 16mm *20mm)

21mm wide eye mounts with 10mm mounting bolt hole.

5 way adjustable spring preload with 165kg/365lbs springs.

Length: 290mm (11.4").

Diameter of upper shroud = 64mm (2.5").

Diameter of springs = 56mm (2.2").

Overall Length = 324mm (12.75").

I hope this helps someone.

Ride safe, and enjoy the ride!

Great looking bike – Nice looks and easy to ride. Automatic cruiser. 17 litre petrol tank. The only issue I have is with the fuel gauge. Apparently it's a common problem, one I now have. Smooth ride with a low centre of gravity so handles well. It had so few kms when I bought it that's it pretty much a new bike and is still being broken in. Take off from the lights is improving as time goes on.  Show details

CF MOTO V5 and noting else – CF MOTO V5 and noting else I keep my V5, and I am going to make it old timer. Only problem is very very sensitive crankshaft, difficult difficult to find and vary vary expensive. Problem is that it is not so much in Europe and Macedonia. Any way, I need no other bike.

it's great when things dont go wrong wit it! – I ride this bike everywhere, had a serious head on collision this yr with nerve damage to my left hand so cant ride manuel. I bought this bike and its gone to c@#p very quickly. I don't ride it hard, I ride well and am still a nervous rider since my crash. Now strange things are happening with it, like it heats up very FAST, and then wont start… Read more

till it cools down! This isn't tolerable as I need this bike to run NOW and run when I start it up. I am not rich, have financial strains due to my crash and am back at work after 6 months off healing.

The radio wont work, the speedometer is waaay off, the petrol gauge stopped working...God knows what else it going to go wrong. Am too angry and upset and poor to fix it. I cant take public transport as I cant walk far..had massive breaks to my foot, leg and ankle and limp considerable and I cant walk far. I hate this bike!

This is a real bike – I have a 250cc Reflex style scooter and am a self proclaimed scooter nut. I have a 750 CC "real Bike" but I LOVE the nimbleness of the scooter. it is fun to drive light to handle and just fun. I had a friend acquire a Q-link through a labor trade and he wanted to sell it and luckily for me I was the first call. What imprested me was the ride… Read more

and the traditional ease of operation. the Q-link rides like a larger motorcycle and has the ease of operation of a scooter.

If you are just starting out or just want an easy rider this is your bike. if you want to ride double or need to go in the freeway you need more bike.

The Q-link was rebranded as the CF Moto V5. SAME BIKE, SAME PARTS SAME EVERYTHING. This is a great bike at any price! Ease of operation Parts are as with all scooters a pain in the ass

Great commuter – I have just purchased a 2014 V5cf moto. So far I have found it to be a great commuter I had a few little problems but nothing to worry about. I have had a lot of people comment on it and are very interested to know it is an automatic. I only travel about 10 ks to work but so far a great ride. You just have to treat it like a 250 cruiser, not like a racer. Good styling, easy to ride, looks great Fuel gauge is not accurate

Ongoing Problems – I have had my V5 since mid 2010 with only 10K on the dial a lot of small sill things like thermostat after a few months going, main bike stand breaking off, seat stud anchor snapping off, rubber bracket holding break line splitting. The Bike is very good as transport to and from work 28km in total and that's all I use it for very cheap to run for… Read more

An update! – I reviewed this bike after I had it for 6 months so thought I would update as I have now been riding it regularly for 18 months now. I have not gotten any smaller so still weighing in at 120kg and 6 foot in height. The bike has not missed a beat! It is just the most perfect commuter bike to have in a city. It handles all traffic conditions easy… Read more

and also all weather - I live in Queensland so it gets very hot and humid but doesn't bother the bike at all. I can't believe the satisfaction I get out of it for such a cheap buy in price. I am way overdue for a service which I will be having in the next fortnight but I haven't bothered as it is running so well. Perfect commuter bike.

2013 v5 – I have run this bike for the past year and yes there are a few issues but on the whole its great commuter bike. The radio has been removed on this model but other than that its the same bike. I have heard a lot of bad things said about stalling, speed issues, wobbly in corners and the like. So to put your mind to rest, no the bike has never… Read more

stalled , overheated or run its own battery flat. This bike is a cruiser design, it will never corner as a sports, take the corner on the wrong line and well......... I play with my bike and treat it as a friend I don't push or ask for too much and in return I receive an enjoyable safe ride.

O.K Gauges art as reliable as the should be, made in China says it all, if you spend a few buck , around $20 per gauge you can get some really decent ones. Invest in a new bulb as well for the headlight 12v 33/35 there are some excellent ones on the market again about $20. (don't let the dealer tell you the whole unit has to be replaced......it doesn't). As for the tires they are a known brand, but not the best, I don't trust Chinese tires, best to upgrade as soon as you can to a better all weather. That's about it as far as faults go. Oh and I have had the bike at 130kph, not advisable but she will do it.

This is a cruiser and if in the past you have only ridden sports or dirt, or what I call the tank of all bikes the CB250 as it is built like a tank, take the time and ride it as a cruiser they are totally different. Remember you cruise on a cruiser, speed on a sports and commute on a commuter.

All in all , great bike at the right price, it will never be a Harley or a Trumpy , its a great fun head turner.

Stay safe and stay upright. Reliable , easy to ride, great commuter or weekender. Not a lot just the few things listed above

CF Moto V5 – Its OK! I ride to and from work every day (about 35klm one way) which covers all types from highway dual carriage ways to 'country' roads etc. I drive that everyday with my wife on the back and drop her off as she works near me. The bike lacks power, but what can you expect from an auto 250cc! It can maintain speeds up a hill but will not… Read more

accelerate and hits 100klms but the bike is stretching and revving hard!

I have had a few issues, broke the drive belt, bulbs, speedo cable, tyres etc and i have only done 10000klms on it. So reliability isnt there. But having said that... I am pushin the bike to its limit every day! With the weight and power of the bike, the bike shutters a lot when taking off but once over 20klms/hr the bike behaves. Again, it comes back to 2 passengers on a small bike. cheap, fuel efficient, auto power, reliability, ride

Not a. Smooth ride – Great fun but whenever I hol the throttle steady, no matter wether your cruising at 40 or 70 kls per hour the ride is unsteady. It feels like its slowing then surging as if the wind is blowing against you even in no wind . Also the radio system is f... D. The only music you get is from the the MP3 and that's when it's in the mood. Top speed… Read more
