CIGWELD TRANSMIG 175i

Worked ok for a few years, but – Did a bit of light fab work in gal using this welder, mainly using gasless wire. Performed ok for a few years, but came up with overtemp intermittently as of late. Has a failed main board after just a few years light work, and maybe 12 or so spools of wire through it. Not impressed for a $1400 welder. Cost to repair exceeds the cost of a new else Show details
GARBAGE – This is the worst pos I have ever had to deal with. Won't weld in any mode. Absolute garbage. 1. Tried arc - really crap weld, sticks all the time in any setting. 2. Tried mig - useless, sticks, or blows holes settings all wrong 3. Tig - this is the worst, if it doesn't stick it blows holes in the material. Machine is now broken up into small… Read more
pieces and headed for the tip. This is the only satisfaction I got from this junk.
I have reverted back to my 25 year old arc welder because it just works.
Never again will I purchase a cig (chinese garbage ) product.
Cheap expensive welder – Great light weight welder except it keeps breaking down, very frustrating when your in a remote place. Had mine rebuilt five times now spent $3000 on it and still broken (going in the rubbish bin). Works exceptionally well when it does work, had built a set of cattle yards and a shed and farm repairs, probably put 200 rolls of wire through it but has a low build quality. Show details
Works well – My first Mig welder after using a buzz box arc welder for 20 years. It takes a bit of learning to get the settings right after using a simple arc welder especially when you wish to weld thin material. I find the recommended settings on the machine are far to high to weld thin material. So I turn them down in order to not burn through the job and… Read more
then it works well enough. I still love to arc weld thick material even though the Mig will do it as well in Mig mode. It just seems to be more satisfying burning rods when you can crank up the juice. No troubles with the wire feeder at all or the hand piece. I did find that I had issues seeing the puddle in mig mode using my auto helmet whereas this was not a problem with arc welding. I eventually found that I had to increase the shade factor to see well and I also added a cheater lense Diopter 2.5, from Bunnings, and now I'm astonished as to the new visibility.
Cigweld 175i is overated – I bought a new Cigweld175i because Reviews indicated that this welder was rated well. However despite just using it in my shed in a hobby use situation, the 175i broke down within 4 months of use. Apparently it was the PC board so I was told. This was covered under warranty, I paid the freight to get it to a town where it can be repaired, $58… Read more
each way.
2 years and 4 mths form date of purchase the PC board went again. This is despite me being the sole user and only doing mainly spot welding with no long welds and plenty of rest time in between welds so duty cycle was never comprised. 15amp outlet with short 15 amp extension cord.
I was using solid wire with gas 80% of the time. Another $58 transport each way to be repaired. I contacted Cigweld to get some compensation on the labour costs which are not covered after 2 years but there was no compassion there at all. 2 years is 2 years with no movement in the customers way despite this happening previously. Luckily the cost of the PC board is covered but no doubt it may happen again but will be out of warrenty. You pay $1200.00 for a machine that you hope will last you the rest of your life ( I am 67) and this happens.
Best move for me is to sell it and buy another brand, anything but cigweld.
Anyone interested in a 2.5 year old Albatross welder that still looks new??
Great machine for workshop – Fantastic welder, already used a handful of jobs, once learnt the capabilities of the machine and tuned in the settings was laying very nice beads with great penetration with the arc welding capability. Finished well, very quiet, easy to find correct sweet spot and like the flexibility that can do mig and tig aswell. I would recommend this as a… Read more
welder to someone who wants a machine that can do everything but doesn't want to buy 3 separate machines. Think it perfectly suitable machine for workshop or hobbyist where you need a quality welder here and there than can do everything.
Nothing is Perfect – I bought the CIGWELD TRANSMIG 175i Dec 2015. The CIGWELD supplied gun a Tweco Professional gave wire feed 'birdcage' trouble from day 1 and was replaced by the supplier - problem solved. 6 months later the 'birdcage' issue is back. According to the Canberra CIGWELD agent, it is a Tweco design or assembly fault - CIGWELD informed but I think… Read more
CIGWELD consider it to be a 'one off'.
Day 1 after repair, the birdcage issue is back!! It did not manage a 25mm test weld and goes back to the agent tomorrow. Hopefully, a better replacement will be sourced.
July 19th 2016 Update: Nothing is Perfect #2
After further investigation by the CIGWELD agent, it was decided to replace the original Tweco Professional torch inner wire feed guide with a slightly smaller inner diameter wire feed guide. This appears to have 'fixed' the problem. Conclusion, the Tweco Professional torch supplied has difficulty handling 0.6mm wire. Recommendation: replace the CIGWELD supplied torch with a better quality product capable of handling 0.6mm wire.

host of other features in order to fully satisfy the broad operating needs of the modern welding professional.
Have been using the Cigweld Transmig 175i since June 2015 , it has been very reliable , and the tweco 2 MiG gun is a lot more reliable than Binzel MiG gun , it comes the 4 meter arc twist lock electrode holder , 4 meter lead with strong earth clamp , it really has performed no problems at all. It will last for many years.
