Good machine, couldn’t make it any easier to use – I have completed a few projects with the unimig 185 already it is a perfect machine and can be fine tuned to suit any conditions. By far the best welder I have used so easy to set up and get to work. Show details · 1
perfect welder to learn with – got this welder a few months back for my birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better machine to learn on this welder has given me the confidence to tackle projects I would have gotten mates or shops to do for me bellow are some before and after pictures of what I have built on my truck with my unimig Show details · 1

Superior quality welder – I have had 5 or 6 Mig welders over many decades and had some expensive big brand names eg ( bright red one made in USA). Within 5 seconds of using this welder ( Viper 185) I produced trade quality industry standards welds superior to any previous welding in my 30 years of experience. I really was surprised at how great this machine lays welds and… Read more · 1
flows so easily. This Unimig is far superior to the cheap chinese welders so commonly available today. My machine came in a bundle with the Chaos welding helmet that showed clarity of the weld pool that I am not use to in other helmets. All round an excellent machine and with other premium quality items. Any buyer of these items would be impressed as I was. You don't need a fancy expensive machine with numerous adjustment options that are never understood or used. You just need an excellent welding machine that is easy to operate and produces great results. However, like other people I noticed the inside guide panel for settings are too hot for most welds. Easy solution, just drop voltage .5- 1.5 volts on the settings guide. I see this as a bonus as the machine can run lower heat settings without ever reaching maximum duty cycle. Best tip though is for superior quality welds always use gas. Flux cored/gasless is just to hard to get right.
Thanks Unimig for making a superior quality product at a very competitive price.
Good mid range MIG machine in a complete starter pack – Decided that after 50 years of buzz box stick welding I should give MIG a go and I bought a generic orange machine from an on-line big box seller. This device was truly horrible, which I suppose was to be expected considering the price. The poor man buys twice, as the saying goes and my second crack was a Unimig Viper 185 PK 11014 starter pack… Read more · 1
from TKD. This was chalk and cheese in comparison to the orange box. Firstly - this particular pack has, literally, everything you need to start welding DC stick and MIG except gloves and gas. If you want to use the TIG function nothing is supplied in this particular pack You will also need a hose clamp crimp tool to connect the gas line, or substitute worm drive clamps for the supplied double ear crimp type (unless you plan to use only gasless wire, but why would you?) Secondly - the welder and its component gauges, leads, torches and connectors are in another league quality wise in comparison to the Chinese ultra cheapies (as you would hope and expect). eg: Just compare the wire feed mechanisms. I'm particularly impressed with the Chaos helmet supplied in this pack. Importantly, the MIG and stick torch leads are both a reasonable length. The cheapy had ridiculously short leads - beware! Third - Unimig has a series of quite good videos to compliment the hard copy instruction manual provided with the machine, and the manuals are also available on line. There's a handy setup guide on the inside of the wire spool door to help you get started. The supplied instructions are comprehensive and usefull. Fourth - Warranty is good (not that I've needed it) and importantly, spares and consumables are easily available from retail stores. and Finally - with its digital displays, easy polarity selection, 10 amp plug and the handy setup guide, the machine is simplicity itself to setup and use. As expected it works like a charm. I give it five stars (at its price point).
Worthwhile step up, and great value – In making my decision on an upgraded welder I looked at 10Amp machines from Bossweld, CigWeld and Unimig. I wanted a machine from a good supplier and service store, so buying an eBay cheapie or another Aldi machine were written off as options (although Aldi warranty service is really good). Bossweld from Bunnings is a good looking machine, and a… Read more · 1
bit cheaper. However, I decided on the Unimig after some research. Whilst Bunnings is good for returns, a specialist shop can give a lot more advice and choice with accessories, wire / electrodes, etc. I have shopped with Total Tools before, and their prices could not be beaten in my research. Also, their service in-store is really good.
In deciding between CigWeld and Unimig, I settled on Unimig for these reasons: 1) More inclusions with the welder than competing machines. E.g., comprehensive selection of rollers. 2) Ability to take 5kg and 1kg rolls of wire. This is important for a hobbyist. 3) Length of leads - Unimig offered great length for torches and earth leads in the package.
My experience so far has been pretty good - only done some MMA. Very smooth arc on stick / MMA welding. Easy to strike, very manageable. Robust and well-made stick holder. I also completed setup for gasless MIG, and whilst it was a little tricky to get gas nozzle off, it all got sorted. The whole unit feels fantastic. The earth lead is great, and the clamp is heaps better than anything I can buy at Bunnings.
Finally, the online introduction videos are pretty good. All in all, I recommend the Unimig Viper 185 very highly. For over double the money I could have had the CigWeld 185 Ultra, but that was not going to be a welcome decision in eyes of senior management. For the dollars I don't think I could have done better.

Welding Made Easy – I have been in the engineering and welding industry for over 35 yrs. and I have worked with many different brands of welding machines from Esab, Lincoln Electric, Miller, Cigweld, Hobart Welders, Kemppi, even a couple that had to be controlled with a choke (For those who are conversant wih that model).............lol Show details · 1
Great welder made life easier – Happy with the welder but did notice the production date was 03/09/2020 and I brought it on 09/08/2023 already 3 years old not very happy about that ???? Show details
A great welder for the hobbyist – I bought the Unimig Viper 185 bundle from Total Tools as I was restoring my HJ Holden that needed rust repairs and for basic metal fabrication e.g. making a workbench etc. I really like the control adjustability with infinitely variable wire speed and amps. My old Mechpro welder only had three amperage settings and was tricky to use on thin… Read more · 1
material. I’ve only used the gas and gas less MIG functions so far but it’s been great for a novice welder like myself. I highly recommend this welder.

A great update to replace an ageing MIG welder – I bought this to replace a Portamig 200 that I bought new about 25 years ago. Apart from that weighing about as much as a small 4-cylinder engine (hardly what I'd call portable), it would frequently 'birds-nest' the wire at the feeder in spite of replacing the liner etc. In comparison, the Viper is just plain awesome - it's light and I have yet to… Read more
birds-nest the wire. I just set the feed and voltage in line with the guidance on the panel using the easy-to-read gauges, point and shoot and get good-looking welds too (I'm not a welder though - I'm more of a grinder).
Best welder money can buy for a diy welder – Awesome machine. I bought it in a kit. Came with everything. Helmet, gloves and consumables. Awesome Mig torch. Stick lead. Earth lead and twin argon gas gauge and a roll of mig wire. Has everything you need to be able to weld from the get go except gas. Show details · 1
Great until it wasnt, and to my surprise... read on please – I use this viper 185 welder as a hobbiest. I am restoring an old Chevy and wanted a good all around welder. This seems to tick the boxes nicely. This 185 was working great until the other day when just would heat the wire to a orange heat with no pulse at all. So no MIG welding. It was working great 2 minutes before that. I did all the normal… Read more
things, power off and unplug. Check the wires for open/short circuits, for the ground wire clamp and the MIG gun wiring, and also checked the wiring for loose connection near the MIG wire spool. All good from what I can see. Plugged back in and turned on again. The display was still lit, and the controls responsive. The fan was on and the gun still controlled the wire feed and gas. Still no arc. This unit is 2years 10months since purchase, and has not gone through its first 5kg roll of wire yet (probably 2kg of it). I have been told its out of warranty even with the 6 month extension. Unimig have been in contact with me and understand my dissapointment, and agreed they would also be dissapointed then asked me to send my viper 185 back to them to be tested at their repair depot in my area. In a week I get a call to say its fixed and come pick it up. No charge for free! I must say that is customer service! I can not say more than I have just written. Unimig did not have to repair my unit for free being out of warranty, but they did, and Im not saying they would for everyone. But its good to know that there are companies out there that will "look after you" if there is a strange fault that was not caused by misuse or abuse of the machine. So thank you Unimig. When it is time to upgrade or replace I know I will be coming back to you. Many thanks indeed! Service with a capital S!
This welder is a great improvement on the old one I was trying to use – I love the simplicity of the 185. It allows me to adjust manually the settings that I prefer. I thought about the 165 but am pleased that I got the 185 instead. I am only Mig welding at the moment and this welder suits me perfectly. I haven't tried the stick welding, which was my former method of welding, yet. I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you. Show details · 1

Good, Solid Welder – I put up with my previous welder for 3 years. It was my first Mig machine and near the top of the line for home welders. I could rarely get a decent bead out of it no matter what I tried, but it wasn't that bad that I thought something was wrong with it. It made me think I was just a crook welder. That's until it finally gave up the ghost and I… Read more · 1
got my Unimig Viper 185. From the very first spark it produced 1000% better welds than the old machine. Don't get me wrong, I'm still not a great welder, but my Unimig produces welds that are at the limit of my ability. Now I can improve my technique and my welds will improve.
