UNIMIG RAZOR AC/DC TIG Welder Series

I have used these machines for several years now most days and sometimes flat out all day. Personally have not seen one fail. I had to hunt high and low across Australia to find a remaining one of these superseded models. Absolutely amazing little welder for the price! I would not have the new model for no other reason than the very loud fan that… Read more
runs full noise for at least 5 full minutes every time it strikes an arc irrelevant of temperature. Very annoying in a quiet workplace like a home workshop. I actually bought the new model and returned it in disgust, It totally contradicts the advertised “smart fan” feature that Unimig advertises with the new model. What a shame. If you can find the KUM-M-RTIG200ACDC buy it and dont sell it! I Awesome welders so much better than the new model in my opinion.
Update to earlier positive review...reliability and support incredibly poor from Unimig – Bought razor 200 ac/dc 2 years ago, and it worked great initially (I even placed one of the many positive reviews on this site for this product...) But it failed after 11 months -- no arc in dc pulse (would do HF sparks but not initiate an arc) and pulse base current locked on 5 amps instead of being adjustable when you had a pedal connected (ie… Read more
in "remote" mode). Unimig tried to gaslight, saying you can't adjust base amps with pedal connected (though (a) it worked that way before, and (b) in any case, being unable to strike an arc seems like a very basic problem for a welder!!!).
With no support from unimig, Total Tools stood behind their product and replaced it with another new identical welder, which i documented in video to work properly (thus confirming the original WAS faulty).
12 months on, and the new replacement machine has failed in the identical way. It went back to unimig (twice this time around, as i refused to accept it after a "no fault found" outcome) and again they were (& are) saying this is normal.
I note other people have had this same fault, and had this same experience with unimig service team based on (1) other reviews on this forum (2) multiple cries for help on the unimig welding facebook forum and (3) the comment made by the service tech at unimig which was "do you know how many of these machines i have had sent back to me with this same fault". They get good initial reviews because they have a good feature set, ...
...but there's a design fault that kills them around 1 year mark, and good luck then with warranty support. Unimig does not honour their warranty (and ACL) obligations, and instead tries to gaslight and make owners think that THEY are doing something wrong
So the failure mode exists, is endemic, and there's no fix for it (obviously, because the jasic design guys can't start developing and testing and proving the fix until the service team acknowledges the fault and tells design team about it for investigation and development & testing of a remedy).
The latest update is that total tools again stepped up, and insisted unimig replace the machine (since they couldn't repair it and refused to refund it, then it was either replace it or let the courts decide...). So i have a demo machine of the latest design (not a new machine) and presumably it is still only going to last another 12 months as they can't have fixed a problem they haven't yet faced up to ... and discouragingly, there's already a review on the unimig forum where the guy says even the latest model has failed the same way**, although he has accepted the lie that this is normal operation, and is warning people that the new style doesn't allow amp setting with the foot pedal connected. Why would anyone design or buy a welder where this was normal?
Oh and i verified my expectations of normal tool behaviour with unimig's owner's manual, with unimig's product videos on YouTube, and with the performance out-of- the-box of all three razor 200 machines i have owned. All of them allowed base amps to be adjusted in remote mode, in both AC and DC tig modes.
This absolutely refutes the service department "nothing wrong" assessment on my two failed machines. So it appears that they are gaslighting the guy in the incident marked**, not just me ... ie it appears that he too has been told the wrong thing by unimig service department, just like i was. The machine IS supposed to be able to do this. It's not you, mate -- it's them.
So...you've been warned.
Credit where credit is due though, the Total tools team has worked tirelessly to get a resolution, despite getting no help from unimig. TT guys even made several personal special trips to Unimig service centre to fetch and return my machine, and dropped it off at my house twice. Now THAT is excellence in customer service right there!!! I will be happy to buy all my future tools at total tools, as they have runs on the board in customer service.
Other brands exist apart from unimig though, and i can't see how you could get worse support than i have experienced from unimig.
buy this one not the latest one – this machine is great, However Unimig's new attempt with the large screen is a step backwards, it doesn't not allow you to set peak amps on the machine while using the foot pedal. Which makes heat consistency more difficult than it should be on a modern welder. Buy the cheaper run-out machine, less fancy but more functional. Caleb. Show details · 8

Good little machine – There is a lot the machine can do, 50mhz is awesome all the way up to 120mhz I'm still yet to use it on steel. Alloy it works like magic. Show details · 1
Absolutely excellent machine – This machine does everything it is told to do and works in a huge variety of conditions. Working in a factory from 6:30am until 5pm this never has a problem Show details · 1
Welcome to the future – I'm a fitter that purchased my welder since I've been working alongside sheeties and boilermakers for a few months now. With a few minutes to get my head around the new gun and gas collet setup, I was on my way. Everything Unimig just feels like quality. Next purchase, MIG welder. Show details · 1

Silence is golden; build quality is obvious – Have been AC/DC TIG welding for years, but had opportunity to upgrade to Unimig Razor 200 ac/dc. On-demand cooling fans mean you can weld in silence -- which is AMAZING. And the synergic auto setting (manually tweakable) for AC balance is nice. I've tried both AC and DC and it is smooth as butter to use. Build quality is obvious, as are the… Read more · 1
detail refinements like push-lock fittings for gas inlet and outlet, and for torch / pedal control connection. Nice to have some proper rated welding gas hose included, and some quality crimp-on fittings, too. The regulator seems good quality and came with an O-ring seal to the bottle.
An Aussie-owned company doing design and QA inspires confidence, as do the repair facilities in Sydney and Brisbane, the availability of spare parts, and the fact that they've been around for 30 years.
Only downside I see so far are the tiny font on the control panel labels (though you just infer the function from where the LED is positioned on the weld cycle graph).
The duty cycle rating is marginally lower than the alusync i've been using ... though (a) I don't think i'll ever push the limits of the Razor anyway, (b) the Razor's duty cycle is still a lot more industrial than most of its competition, particularly at this price point, (c) a new alusync is a thousand dollars more expensive, and (compellingly) (d) the Razor is 10kg whereas the alusync is 25kg, which makes it a definite trolley-only proposition in the real world.
The torch design is unique to Unimig. i think on balance that's a positive ... it does mean all my accumulated spare parts will have to be bundled for sale with the old welder (and i'm locked into one supplier for spare parts for the new torch), both of which are a nuisance ... but it is a REALLY nice flexi-head torch designed to stay cooler than a standard torch, and it includes a hand amp controller as standard.
Love this welder – This welder has nice HF starts, a stable arc and has all the features you'd want like 2T, 4T, spot, pulse, remote or button, etc. I got mine with a foot pedal and a starter kit thrown in for nicks which was awesome. My torch also has the amperage control on it if you need that when you can't operate a foot pedal. It welds so smoothly on AC or DC… Read more · 3
and is a joy to use.
Nothing's perfect though, and my issues with it are: 1/ sometimes (only rarely) the fan won't switch off even when the unit has had time to cool (maybe software bug?). 2/ The AC balance doesn't seem to be a percentage like 70 EN or 30 EP, but -10 to +10 (manual also contradicts itself and says +/-5) which would be fine if that was swinging around say 70 or 75 EN but I don't know what it's swinging around. Say I want to set it to 50% and ball my tungsten, how would I do that? 3/ I don't like how you switch the remote on and off by holding the pedal or button down for 10 seconds. Why not just have a button on the front? 4/ The torch is non-standard but it is still a good torch. I can't find anywhere that has the T3W in stock. Also, there's no pyrex cups available, even from unimig. I wouldn't let the above bad points stop me from buyiong this again though as they're only minor.
Wow. Just wow!! – This is the best welder I have ever owned/used. Ac pulse works flawlessly, so much adjustment available. I'm just a hack welder but really appreciate the quality of this welder. Have owned a cheap ac/dc welder in the past, so glad I spent the extra on this one, that said the unimig razor ac/dc is exceptional value anyway. This has the features… Read more · 1
and quality of a Fronius for half the cost. My only gripe with it so far is the fact it is also an inverter stick welder ( which with the proper settings works flawlessly). It doesn't mention in the manual how to turn off the VRD (voltage reduction device). With VRD enabled it is nearly impossible to stick weld with. That said a quick email to Unimig support sorted that issue out quick time. If the manual explained how to turn it off, would have made the function of the welder much more straight forward. Good to know Unimig is an Australian company as well.
Highly recommend Unimig as a company, exceptional customer support, great to see in this day and age.

Stick welding with this machine – a lot of reviews about using TIG on this machine but has anyone used the MMA function? I find the TIG function is fantastic but find it very hard to get a good start using it as a stick welder as I have to constantly strike, hit, drag, expose some of the electrode metal but still can take quite a lot of time trying to get a start but once getting… Read more
a start it welds perfectly good buttery welds. I have been welding with my little 100amp stick welder ($100) for approx 35 years with no problem of getting a quick easy arc. Has anyone else had a issue with this and is there an easy fix?
I cant wait to use this welder – I have only just un packed my new AC/DC 200 welder but have been very impressed with the packaging and overall presentation of the welder with foot pedal package .I cant wait to set it up and try it out Show details · 1

Best TIG ever. Easy to use, small, powerful and new collet system is great – I’ve gone from an older inverter TIG to the new Razor 200 and wow!!! New T2 collet system is fantastic, easy to use, small and powerful. As for Customer service I would like to say how imprssive the Customer Support from Unimig is. Its the true sign of a good reliable Company. Having just bought a Unimig Razor 200 TIG i had an issue with one of… Read more · 1
the funky T2 collets. Fantastic collet by the way. I contacted Unimig re the issue, possibly caused by my lack of knowledge and Petros Madzinga responded promptly. After explaining what happened and sending photos, Petros didnt stuff around, and said they would replace the collet. Imagine my surprise when 2 days later i received a full T2 kit with all collets, rubbers, lens's etc. This was far beyond what i had hoped they would do. I would have been happy with just the one collet! Thank You to Petros and Unimig for exceptional service!
Compact And light – The small amount of welding I have done with it so far has been very good. Runs are clean and even, running in both AC and DC standard modes. Will try pulse mode soon to see how that goes. Would have given 5 stars if it had a save programs feature. Show details · 1
Functionally Excellent – New to TIG, but makes the learning curve very straight forward. It's all on me now, i've seen the machine is capable of doing - a professional TIG welder mate using my machine - stunning. He loved it also and couldn't believe the price. Only wish the labels were larger - there are a lot of parameters, and secondly wish those parameters could be… Read more · 1
saved into memory to recall when needed with weld types and material thicknesses.
I will always be the limiting factor with this beast.
Ideal versatile small TIG welder – Works beautifully, sophisticated, but simple to set up, rugged and portable. Looks great. All accessories are good quality, though the standard foot pedal could use a design upgrade. It has nifty brass click-connections for argon supply, meaning it can be disconnected and moved in seconds. This should be a selling point but wasn't advertised for some reason. Show details · 1
What a machine – Have been welding for over 50 years now as a backyarder only. In saying that I have managed some big projects in steel and DC MIG alloy. Never used TIG, as being an old dog I felt as though it was too hard to learn new tricks. Bloody hell, was I wrong. This welder makes my previous DC MIG alloy projects look like crap. Was a bit overwhelmed at… Read more · 1
the start with the setting line up but that was soon overcome by downloading the ultimate welding guide. Only bought the welder 2 days ago but have it just about mastered Only negative I have is the size of the lettering on the settings. I supposed being half blind doesn't help. (Old timer syndrome I guess). Anyway, totally love it
Great Tig Welder – I am still Tig and this machine is a great tool While the menu is a little confussing at first have now worked it out ans it is very simple Show details · 1
First Tig – Heard great thing about this welder and watched countless reviews and demonstrations, for many years struggling with a Mig where the Razor should have been used, the learning curve begins. Show details · 1
Very Impressed – Being a Welder naturally makes me a harsh critic...so far I am very impressed with the high quality and presentation of this product by the manufacturer. Ease of control and arc stability is better than I expected. I would highly recommend this product !!!! Show details · 1
Filled a hole! – Had MMA and MIG welders already, wanted an HF start TIG for thin metals plus aluminium. Easy to set up after downloading Unimig's welding manual that includes setup tables for different welds and metals. Show details · 1

Brilliant welder – Great welder, performs exactly as expected. The videos online are a great help and very informative. Great product info and support by unimig. This is my second unimig welder, highly recommended Show details · 1
Good compact machine – Had the previous model Unimig 200 and it was a goo machine. This one is lighter more compact and easier to use with the electronics. Great torch with flexible head, collet design and gas lens Show details · 1
Great Machine. Makes welding Alloy a breeze – This is my first time welding alum. After the usual trial and errors I have master the machine and starting to produce nice quality welds. There are only 2 things that irritate me. The size of the front display; just to small and they should also include different settings to go with the machine for different materials just like I have on my Mig… Read more · 2
welder on the inside of the side cover, which I find extremely useful. Other than that, Yes I'm happy with the machine.
Everything I was expecting – Everything I was told it would be from other blokes I know that own one. The YouTube videos were helpful also. Only just started out and found user friendly machine. Show reply

Compact, powerful and quiet – Brought this for thin wall alloy pipe repairs on air conditioner systems. Was welding up pipes like a pro within an hour of setting it up. Haven't used a TIG for 15 years. Great tutorial videos off unimig youtube channel too. Great Australian company producing awsome products. Thanks. Show details · 1
Great machine – Glad I bought this machine, only had a 200 amp machine before, works great. Got the water cooler for it, keeps my torch nice and cool when welding thick aluminium. Show details · 1
Excellent Welder that does what they say – Very quite Welder with fan only occasionally cycling even when using 130A ~ 160A. Learn the menu which I really like (now) as settings are easy and logical once you get used to its logic. A highly feature loaded machine for what you pay. Make sure you get the Starter Kit as well to give you more options. The Tig Torch being a flexhead is their own… Read more · 2
with unique accessories, but as they now have a full range of all the different head combos that you might want at very competitive pricing, this is not a CON. If you want to weld aluminium like me, be aware that their suggested current settings are very conservative. Am I happy with it? So much that I purchased their Viper185 Mig Welder Combo shortly afterwards. This is from satisfied customer that wasn't offered any rewards/promotion or anything. Just happy that I got a product that actually lives up to its promise.
What a little beast!! – Was going to go with other brands but after doing alot of research i knew i couldn’t go wrong with the unimig…. Glad i did, i was laying alloy dimes in no time…I got the package deal so had everything to get me going with top quality mask ect… A chippie that’s laying dimes…… That says something about machine lol…. love it!
