Great machine, affordable and reliable – Bought this machine last year due to the affordable price. Where there have been previous concerns with the quality, I have not had similar issues and have found it extremely reliable and within my budgetary requirements. Show details ·  1

Great little stick machine – I bought this on sale and it performs as you would expect a dirt cheap machine to work. I don't work it hard. It is for little repairs and touch ups. I think some people expect a lambo for the cost of a commodore. Show details ·  1

Transformer garbage – I would like to concur with the other reviewer TPT This welder I can't believe it is for sale in 2019 and I can't believe I bought it. First off half cigwelds literature claim it's 120 amps and max electrode of 3.3mm but the other half 100 amps and 2.5mm The manual and the unit itself say 100amps max. Who markets something as 120tubo when it… Read more

only has 100???

At 100amps the duty cycle is 5%! How is that even a thing. That means at 100amps you 30 seconds of use before it overheats and requires 9.5 mins to cool down!

Running anything over 2.5mm 6013 is just not going to happen.

Electrode holder is garbage. Falls appart. First unit the wire in the electrode holder fell to pieces since there is no strain relief. Replaced under wty from sca.

Earth clamp is small and pretty garbage.

If you are in the market for a cheap welder 100% buy an igbt inverter that can at least run 125amp with a decent duty cycle so you can run 3.2mm e7018 rods dcep.

They are just as cheap and work better from 10a power. I own 2 cheap China inverter welders including a 200a unit bought for $88 delivered that weld way way nicer than this.

This is about the POOREST of the universally rebadged low spec welders that you can buy – I design and build some incredible gear..... Truly awesome. OK I needed a small welder that would run from a 10A, 240V. Bought it on special for $90. Despite all the promo about what a great product it is - it's garbage. Why? It is the same as all the other "discount bottom dollar" welders that come from the same factory with… Read more

different paint, stickers, knobs, handles, welding leads, torches, earth clamps and face shield.

Secondly it's not actually pure garbage in a technical sense, but the way it's been put together is technically unacceptable.

At maximum power output, 120A, it has a 5% duty cycle.

That means for every 30 seconds of welding, it has to have 10 minutes time to cool down.

At 80A it's something like a 25% duty cycle, or was that 15%?

The welding leads are so thin, they do get HOT....

The earth clamp is a clothes peg and the torch falls apart in your hand...

Using the same internal components, I have converted it too produce around a 50% duty cycle, full wave DC rectification, with proper 250A welding leads, torch and earth clamp and my welding leads, clamp and torch, cost more than the original welder.

So when the "technicians" at CIG say this, "1 Year Warranty This equipment is manufactured to stringent CIGWELD quality standards" - it's lip service garbage and they are lying.

This welder is a bottom dollar universal everyone stocks them under every brand name, bring them in by the containers full with NO design checks or quality standards at all.

Even the face shield exposes your neck to UV radiation - sun bun = skin cancer. That is totally unacceptable. Bottom dollar face shield. Slack managers and worthless and non existent quality control. And they foist these face shields onto the guilliable UNTRAINED public / DIY / Backyarders.

I have personally fought like cats and dogs with the entire "Awww She'll be right mate" CIG technical dept - from the front line to the management. These are very blood thirsty discussions, which took place not long after I bought the welder 5 or 6 years ago (when ever).

Since ESAB took them over, they may have gotten rid of the "Dinkum Aussie She'll be Right - Jobs for the Boys Tech support Dept".

So the current crop of staff may not be the same as the ones back then - got to be fair about this.

But the lack of any stringent quality control standards and very poor product design, still leaves everything to be desired.

CIG basically develops nothing and only imports.

I fixed mine up because I know what I am doing.

CIG's technical dept know nothing about welders.

Sure they are designed to not have internal shorts etc., but everything about them is a total liability.

They just unload their lots in their colours with their stickers on them, by the container full from China and then distribute them.

They have been so apathetically arrogant, about redesigning their product and fixing up all the short comings with it - no wonder CIG was wound down and sold off.
