it work: I noticed that this silly safety latch/switch in the base needs to be pressed in for the motor to work, but placing the glass jug onto the base does not press the latch down, thus I had to assume that something has already broken off, and we returned the blender to Big W. Sadly, the customer service desk did not have power points up there on their desk, but the woman had to crawl around on her knees to get to the power point, and in the process of that she smashed the glass jug. Only for them to find out that the problem is that not only the jug needs to be sitting on the base, but the lid also has to be on top of the jug - and not only that - the lid also need to be turned PROPERLY into locking position - and this in return activates a mechanism alongside the jug down to the base, where the latch/switch finally gets pressed down. That's what I call "Id*ot-proof": No id*ot will ever be able to operate this blender! ;) This "fool-proof-system" is so over the top, that one would expect detailed clear and obvious explanation of this in the manual - somewhere in the middle of the manual and in the small print it is explained - in a way, which can probably only be fathomed, after you know, what the problem was. The blender was quite cheap at AU$29.
