Quiet running unit, we have 6 outlets, more than powerful enough to service the home. Usually run fan on low, house stays cool if run constantly. We also have 2 split systems in living areas but haven't had to switch on since unit put in. At night… Read more · 2
actually gets cold in home. Good digital display on controller, compared to old unit this one replaced. Must admit first few days a medical smell from water flowing over pads. But after several water dumps has come good and clear. Fan runs quiet.
Follow-up · Medicinal smell lasted 5 days, all clear now. Very quiet running, set-up to dump water every 3 days if not run but can be overruled to dump whenever you want after switching unit off. On recent 40 degree days ,inside temp around 24/25 degrees. Power usage similar to our old unit, cheap, we also have solar which helps.
$4k and just two years old and two warranty call-outs. Most recently, unit packed up Xmas Eve 38c, Xmas day 42c. Previous unit was 20 years old same make (CoolAir) so thought I’d stick with the devil I know. Big mistake, I guess the guts of these units use sub-standard Chinese [Content Removed] not fit for purpose. Show details

Struck by lightening? – Our CPQ1100-G was installed in February 2023 in Queensland. A couple of weeks ago, we tried to switch it on and the control showed "Service" on the display. We asked the supplier to come out and investigate and were told that the machine had been struck by a storm and would cost more than half of what we paid for it, for it to be fixed. As the machine is not even two years old and is designed to sit on a roof, I am not impressed.

Will replace this with a better quality system – The apron flashing failed causing water ingress and damage to the ceiling underneath. It also leaned noticeably to the side and no longer cooled. I got a technician out to fix this. The other issue that many others have pointed out is the noise. On the absolute lowest setting, a noticeable humming noise can be heard directly beneath the unit… Read more
which in my house is a bedroom. No one can sleep in that room due to the noise. On its highest setting it sounds like a tornado.

Horrible - Constant Industrial Whining Noise on Lowest Speed – We had the CPQ 700 installed in March 2022. Immediately upon installation, I noticed a horrible sound and soon after, within a week, my neighbour came over and complained about the noise. The industrial whining noise is heard on the lowest manual setting. It reverberates through the house with some rooms more affected by the noise than others,… Read more
and when standing out in the backyard, the noise is quite noticeable.
We have contacted the installer who stated that he has put in the quieter fan blade in the hope this will solve the problem which it has not. He then took to reviewing the installation and the ducting to ensure all was in place and fitted correctly, to no avail in getting rid of the industrial whining noise. He has returned on at least 3 occasions now with no fix in site. My neighbours have gone to the local council for advice as the noise from my air con unit is now disrupting their sleep and they are unable to sit in their back courtyard due to the noise output.
I can see that the CPQ 700 unit will land me in court unless the installer decides to take accountability and swap it out with another quieter unit at their expense. According to the AIRAH website, it is the installers responsibility to ensure any unit installed is fit for purpose and abides by the correct noise level set out by industry guidelines.
My neighbours have sourced their own air con company to come over and test the noise output of my unit from their backyard. At this stage, my CPQ 700 unit exceeds the 55dB after 7pm.

Not as good as advertised – I have a new CPQ1100 in my home and a smaller Coolair unit at my investment property. I went with Coolair as my old one lasted 20 years! While they seem to cool well both units are loud - with a constant humming noise that can be heard in inside the house. When I put my home unit on full it sounds like it’s going to take off from the roof! So much for a whisper quiet fan as advertised. Wish I’d spent an extra $1000 for a better quality unit. Terrible Product – We had this model installed as a replacement for the old unit 18 months ago. It makes a loud humming noise and causes the windows to rattle if turned up high. Coolair came out and said the motor was the problem which was replaced. This has made no difference,it seems the CPQ700 is not a very good product.. . Show details
Quite and so cheap to run love it – Had to replace old evaporative unit as the turbine broke and too expensive to replace part. This unit is quieter than previous model. More efficient with electicity usage and with it running all day during these hot days our daily electicity cost is $3 less on average than with the previous unit. It produces a clean, cooling breeze throughtout our 3 bedroom home. So, so very quiet. Very happy so far.
20 years old, and still going strong! – We have a 20-year-old Coolair evaporative air conditioner, and it's still working well to this day. I've read many reviews of other evaporative air conditioner brands, and reliability and performance issues seem to be a frequent issue. Whilst our air conditioner has not been completely without fault, the faults are easy to fix for anyone with… Read more
even moderate diy skills, and the spare parts are cheap and readily available. The faults on our unit have only occurred within the past 2 years, after more than 18 years of trouble free operation.
I think the key to this brands longevity is the simplicity of the system, it's basically just a fan, 4 pads and a water pump. There's no complex electronics and no other pointless gizmos to break down. The unit just delivers cool air to your home to the temperature that you desire. The unit cools our fairly large house extremely well and costs next to nothing to run.
I'm planning to replace our air conditioner next year, and will definitely be purchasing another Coolair unit.
