Never buy a cub cadet – XT2 Enduro Series LX 42 – 192 hrs We purchased the above mower on 12 March 2020 with extremely high expectations of the product. We had seen a lot of positive comments and had many people recommend your product to us prior to purchase as an excellent mower which was dependable and reliable at a reasonable price. I had always preferred… Read more

Greenfield mowers until this purchase. I have since learnt that not only are your mowers not so reliable or easy to repair, they are also expensive and poorly thought out in their design.

Following purchase, we have had a couple of problems/faults which have required attention not-withstanding the latest episode which has left me with a foul taste in my mouth regarding your product. After 4 years less 1 day, I was mowing our lawn for approximately 30 minutes, and had switched the mower off to close a gate and to check my fuel. When I attempted to re-start the mower, it would not fire. I then pushed it back to the house for my husband to see what was wrong. Nothing was apparent that I hadn’t checked, so I thought it might be too hot – I left it for an hour and re-tried in vain. We then decided it may have a problem with its starter motor which we would not be able to rectify, so loaded it onto our trailer in readiness to drop off to our Cub Cadet mechanic. We were able to drop the mower off last week and the first thing checked was the battery (which we had also checked) and the mechanic said the battery was dead. He also said that these batteries required charging occasionally because the engine has a very low charging rate!!!! (1st issue); This information has now been passed onto our neighbour who also bought a cub on our recommendation and further review, and he is now 1 step ahead. So a new battery was purchased.

A follow up phone call from our mechanic identified that the fuel pump was not functioning. He noted that the fuel pump is situated inside the fuel tank and therefore to replace it we needed to replace the whole unit at over $600 (2nd issue). I am assuming a male designed this feature as a female would think ahead! Although as an after-market problem, it would be a good money spinner, I am assuming.

Apart from the obvious issue, I am concerned that 4 years or 192 hours, is a relatively short life span for an unfortunately positioned fuel pump. (3rd issue).

I raise these issues with you following a number of other incidents with the cub cadet as noted above

Within 2 months of purchase, we had an issue with the mower not running which our mechanic identified as a belt had slipped off the front cutting head pulley which he had never heard happen before. He fixed this under warranty.

Then we had an issue with the cub and it’s reverse. Spoke to the mechanic and he suggested we check for twigs or sticks jamming the rod. We hoisted the mower up to check, to no avail. But on lowering to the ground the reverse worked again. I am led to believe now that this was a cleaning issue which we did not know at the time.

The cub has been serviced as required and is maintained extremely well and kept under cover when not in use. So I am extremely disappointed in the cub cadet machine which we purchased.

Our Cub Cadet mechanic has just advised us that he is unsure when we will have our mower back. Apparently the part required is not available in Australia. “I beg your pardon”, you ask. That’s right. NOT AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA! There are four (4) parts which have been ordered and are in transit to Australia and three (3) of those have been assigned to other dealers. Our mechanic has requested the fourth one for our mower but he has no guarantee that he will get it. And I am also assuming that the parts are coming in a container by ship. To me that speaks volumes, including that there are three other customers who are up the same creek without a mower and in limbo, and soon to be out of pocket by over $600+. I guess that means you have 4 unhappy customers. I know that once our mower is repaired, I will be selling same and purchasing a more reliable mower. My suggestion to your company is that if you can’t supply parts readily to customers, don’t sell the mowers in Australia. Now we are having to look at either hiring a mower for the foreseeable future or hiring a contractor to mow our 3 acres of lawn because you cannot supply the parts required to repair our mower. From my perspective, I feel that you are not looking after the interests of your customers and the brand name of cub cadet has been sullied by poor customer service and an unreliable and costly machine.

Terrible customer service – Twisted deck from new, as live out of town, very hard to drop back, and kind of lived with it. As at the time you couldn't get a mower in stock. Decided to chase up, but was informed that it was not covered under warranty, even though the mower came with a 6 year warranty. So effectively a useless warranty. Show details

Not Happy Cub Cadet after 1 hour of use – After saving up $5000 in cash, we bought a Brand New Ride On Mower. After 1 hour of use, cleaned and put away on trickle charge charging, I went to use it again. It started ok, drove out of the garage on idle, to the lawn. Electronic throttle control not working. It's called a potentiometer for variable speed control. I put it back in the… Read more

shed, left it for 30 minutes and tried again. I cut 6 rows on the lawn and it went back to idle again. I called the Dealer and they said they have been having some trouble with these on a few new ones out of their crates. So in it went for the warranty and replacement switch, ( well call it ). 1 hour of travel each way for a 15 minute job. They don't come to us to do this small thing, with only 1 hour on the clock, We are inconvenienced 3 hours of the day and having to get it on out ute and tie it down. They get paid for this work by Cub Cadet and we don't even get a tank of fuel for the mower. No sorry, No Nothing. I could have easily fixed this myself, we are both Tradesman. This is only a plug in switch with a cable attached. The Repair Shop said they have have been having trouble with these the past 12 months.

A great ride on mower – After reading all the poor JD reviews I wasn’t sure what to buy to replace my 16 yo 115 John Deere Lawn Tractor. I read lots of reviews and watched many YouTube videos on the available options. I settled on the Cub Cadet XT1 LT42 as the reviews were very positive. I’ve done 30 hours so far and I’m happy with the way the mower cuts and it’s more… Read more

fuel efficient than my old John Deere. There’s been no reliability issues so far and the 6 year warranty provides peace of mind too.

Solid and easy to use – Icw only owned it for 19 hours and haven't owned any other ride on before so maybe a grain of salt I do like this mower a lot. It's easy to use and cuts nicely (beware of scalping though and start at a higher cut height than you think you need).it is very loud but this might be normal for this type of mower. Show details

Love my mower – So happy with this mower. It has been raining non stop and on the one sunny day i quickly took it out for a cut. the ground was so wet and muddy but it performed so well. highly impressed with how easy it is to use and maneuver. it has such a good turn circle. my land slopes and it worked so much better than what i expected however the only… Read more

downfall of this machine is that it does not have arm rails for that added security. every now and then i felt i was slipping off my seat to the side and those arm rests would have made me feel so much more comfortable so that is my only negative about it.

Ride on mower – Excellent mower, comfortable seat, Smooth to operate, quiet, light steering, easy to start. Only problem is the tires fitted are not appropriate for damp sloping grass. It is good value for money.

Lemon machine – 18 months old and uneconomical to repair. I went to MowerPlace Pullenvale and they drove to my block and said this would handle my sloping paddock.Paid $4200 2 weeks later a tyre puncture and I'm told you cant change the tyre unless you bend the end of a thick screwdriver to get it off. In the first year the Shaft broke because blades are fixed… Read more

not swinging $600. It wont mow any kind of slope. Told "we should not have sold you that mower for your block. I get $1000 of modifications swinging blades etc and 3 weeks later "rats have chewed cables to electronic clutch" after the mobile mechanic told us take it to the shop its under warranty its the electronic clutch. Offered $2000 for $4200 machine that ran for 20 hours and is now scrap, appalling customer service. Waste of money. Buy a John Deere or a razorback. DO NOT BUY FROM MOWER PLACE PULLENVALE . Take your Money and shake you down when it all goes wrong

Nice review, start with the real price....cheapest one I could find $3,799.00 – These are quality machines, I own one but it was $5899.00 so not a budget model. Never, ever failed to start, mows so beautifully, maintaining is dear, but Kohler engine is brilliant  Show details
