Good, but needed more improving – It may be better to supply with window sealing materials, upper drain hose for dehumidifierring and cover material for hot exhausting tube. It will be better to improve the cool air to swing, improve to not be needed to change exhausting tube when used as a heater and change the whole cover material from plastic to metal, because it is too heavy and… Read more

plastic is too weak (especially the small hooks on the covers near exhausting tube and cool air flow)to move. .

Not cool – I realise the product has been discontinued. It was purchased for my elderly mother many years ago and she never complained about it but now I understand why she rarely used it. I have the unit now and thought it would be great in a small study. Small means 3.7m x 2.75m x 2.7m (L W H). I have the unit close to the window to minimize… Read more

length on the exhaust hose and thus lowering radiant heat. The window kit is secured snugly. I have a cloth wrapped tight around the hose/unit interface to block hot air leakage.

The filters are clean.

The blinds are closed (room dark). Ceiling light off.

I'm in the room now (5 p.m.) and it's been running all day. It's 31.5° in the house and 29.4° in this room.

Measured 3cm from the outlet the temperature is 21.5° so that confirms it is cooling.

Measured 40cm from the outlet the temperature is 21.7° so it's still cooling.

I had a GDCAC12RCW before and it was quite ok. This should be just as good in a 10.18m² (27.5m³) sized room.

70% humidity, though. I suspect this is the problem. The rest of the house has 43% humidity.

Either way, it's not cooling well enough.

Does a great job. Not a lemon at all! – We had an old Honeywell and swapped over to this when gifted it. It's not as noisy as our previous and is very economical on dehumidify and straight air. The dehumidify is relatively quiet, fabulously cooling and we use it at night in a large bedroom. Filter cleaning, as well as emptying any water build up is quick and easy. We tend to do a quick… Read more ·  1

maintain every week. The bedrooms sliding windows presented the usual problem of setting up a window unit, but, with a bit of ingenuity, we had a cool down fast!

My partner has a medical condition which has been greatly alleviated by this relatively compact, mobile resource. I love it because on dehumidify, I don't wake up all nasal, as with straight aircon. This hot, humid, exhausting summer we have started using the dehumidifying functions on this and in the other larger wall unit. Works a treat and cheaper to run. With temp. settings at 24 degrees Celsius, the machine provides us with economical air with both units. Regulating our environment by preventing early heat build up helps; shut windows, pull blinds, use only when using the rooms etc.

Yes, it can be noisy especially on air con, but that's what you get in a small space vs a wall unit in an entire house.

just a lemon compared with others price – noisy as crap , does not work in low fan speed since new does cool the same as a 3 kw cheap version i regretted spending that money in small poor cooling machine , it's rated 36 cooling area but it only cools a 25 meter room think twice before you buy , you will end up put it in the shed for the rats to make breading  Show details

We got a lemon – As we are currently renting we needed a portable air conditioner as we could not install any other type. We decided on the Dimplex as it was a known and trusted brand. Apparently these units are sold exclusively through The Good Guys and when we were looking to buy, there was only one specific unit left (across the entire range of these… Read more

models) in the entire Sydney area of Good Guys stores. We drove over 2 hours (return trip) to this store and then lugged it all the way home.

It worked fairly well, for less than a 2 weeks before it developed a non-repairable mechanical failure.

We were informed by Dimplex that the unit would have to be returned to the place of purchase to get a refund as they were completely out of stock in Australia and would not be supplying any more units.

And so began the arduous journey to return this heavy boat anchor back to the store.

Given that most other reviews for these units are positive I can only assume that I was unlucky and got the Lemon. I can forgive this to some extent but I would have expected that Dimplex should or could have organized some form of replacement or repair. I mean at the end of the day their main product lines are air conditioners and heaters, one would assume that they would at least carry some stock in inventory for such as situation.

We ended up purchasing a similar Kogan unit and have used it constantly for both cooling and heating over the last 5 months without it skipping a beat.

Works a treat! – We purchased this portable air con with hesitation based on a previous experience we had with a portable air con unit. We bought another Dimplex the year before and it broke within two days and we returned it and got our money back... BUT, this time we spoke to a salesperson at JB Hi Fi Homeworld in Helensvale and he gave us a lot of info around… Read more ·  1

portable air cons. One issue he said they have is that people purchase an air con unit that is too small for the space they're trying to cool down. He advised us if we could afford it, to purchase up and buy bigger kw.

This worked a treat for us!

This unit cools the room down perfectly. We have a Gro Egg for our baby room which measures the temp spot on, and it always matches the unit.

It is a little noisy - but all portable air cons are. You get used to it. The white noise works for our bub anyway.

It keeps him nice and cool, its low maintenance and we got it for a reasonable price.

Cool! Does the job! – I got this today, after purchasing it for $600 from buysmarte. It is a bit noisy as people have said but so far it has cooled my bedroom a treat. I am 'only' giving it four stars because of the noise and I haven't had it for too long yet. It is still a good rating though and it is a good product! My bedroom is 4x3m and it cools it easily, which is… Read more ·  1

no easy feat given that my bedroom heats up very easily during the day. I haven't had it for too long. But it seems really promising.

As someone mentioned, the plastic tube part has problems fitting into the exhaust, but if you fiddle around enough it should be fine.

Not Bad – We have purchased this unit during Jan 2014 Melbourne heat wave … when outside temp was at 40C this unit was able to cool down our rather small living area (6mx4m) to 28C in 1 hour or less. When you look at the unit it looks like made of cheap plastic. Fexi horse isn’t firmly connects to the unit. It was popping out regularly or you can feel… Read more

the hot exhaust air leaks back in to the room.

Provided panels perfectly fits with the sliding window.

This unit does the cooling job perfectly and haven’t tried the heating function yet, so no comments on that.

Major problem with this unit is the noise. Even when the cooling element is switched off when it reached the set temperature, fan sounds like a Jet engine even at lowest speed. I can’t think why they couldn’t come up with bit more silent fan.

I have compared the noise levels with my neighbours split systems external unit and this portable units fan is louder than anything else. It was so hard to sleep when it’s on in the bed room & it took couple of hours for me to get used to it and fall to sleep.

Have used the unit for 9 days so far and still it’s working. Faster cooling Noise, Noise, Noise

Dimplex DIMC15RC Portable 4.4kw AC – Hi there, just purchased this unit after a lot of in store demo's and product reviews, hence turns out that this was the best buy, for me anyway @ $640 from the Good Guys. I can highly recommend this unit even though the recent 40 degree Melbourne heat wave has just passed, though that prompted me to get this unit now as I'm sure we'll get… Read more ·  3

another spurt of the same soon.

I am very pedantic hence I can say in earnest that I literally tried every unit available at all the major retailers prior to deciding on the Dimplex.

To put it candidly this unit has the best throw in terms of airflow so much so that it compares to a split system, no bull.

I purchased this for a mater bedroom WIR & ensuite floor plan though the main bedroom is the main area to be cooled and about 5x5 metres.

So far it seem to be perform within my realistic expectations, it's not freezing but very comfortable.

The only criticism is that it's not quitest unit though on a low fan speed it still has excellent through and is acceptable at about 50db. Sleep mode and a appropriate timer setting are a solution to what would otherwise be a possible deal breaker for some.

In my opinion there are other units that are quieter though their dispersion even though claimed to be better just is not the case. Though the Splendid Piu is a great unit and great for a smaller room like a nursery or smaller study.

Just be aware that these units will generally operate at about half the efficiency if a equivalently rated split system so go bigger in terms of capacity to ensure it meets your minimum expectations.

Also you need to make sure that you set up the exhaust vent and piping properly to ensure the best results.

These units are great for renters though ultimately a split system is the way to go and if I wasn't renting I would have gone done that route.

So overall i would recommend this unit as the pick of the crop in terms of performance below 5kw capacity and price. Another benefit of this Dimplex unit is that it is a reverse cycle unit and will heat the same area in winter.

At the end of the day remember that these units are designed for single rooms and need to be set up appropriately to perform at their best.

Also you can always use them in any part of the house so even if you go one better by installing a split system it's not money wasted.

I'd give this unit a 9/10, higher of it were as quiet as the Splendid Piu but it's ability to cool is more important to me though the Splendid would of won if I was in a smaller space.

Hope this helps. Great throw on terms of air flow, can feel the cool air from 5 metres away! Also it's reverse cycle so it's useful in winter. Looks good and is reliable. Not the quietest unit though that doesn't effect it's application for me though this may be an issue for some, subjective really.

great unit shame about the spares – Performed as described by the manufacturer without fail, this unit is 6 days old , unfortunately it fell over. there is no spare parts available for these units, as the 24 month warranty is a replacement only policy. After 6 days of use and $570.00 for the privelidge of trying it out, it is destined for the bin. functioned without fault. no spares commercialy available anywhere in australia
