Doherty's 24:7 Gym

Huge gym, but uneasy vibe, not clean and rusting equipment – This is for the Brunswick gym, which is famous all over Australia and beyond for its size and variety of equipment. Theres three huge rooms full of equipment, probably the biggest gym I've ever seen, so heaps of stuff on offer you can do. Theres no aerobics or stretching area - this a gym for serious body builders. Posters of impossibly buffed and chiselled dudes and chicks are everywhere, and theres always these huge dudes with arms like tree trunks training there. Famous bodybuilders from the States and elsewhere actually train here when in town. They've also got a boxing ring and supplements shop onsite too.
The problem while there is heaps of machines, a lot of equipment is really old and some of it may be on the verge of not being safe anymore. There is a serious lack of smaller freeweights in the range of 1-10kg, so it makes it really hard to even use this huge variety of equipment. Hygiene and cleanliness is also an issue, the place is really old and lacking maintenance as it is, and the bathrooms get pretty nasty. Its also really cold in winter and hot in summer, using cardio equipment on hot days is unbearable.
Most of all, you really want to consider if the vibe suits you, given the other people training there...to be honest its not really a gym for regular people. Other dudes there claim multiple equipment at the same time and even groups of guys kick you off things of they want it. Also the parking lot and bike racks are next to the Bandidos club house, which doesn't fill you with confidence at all. Some people may not mind it, its up to you how you feel about it.
Direct debit is easy to set up, and you just need 4 weeks notice to stop it, FYI.
Greatest gym in melbourne – Right near public transport it is convenient to get there by train. The staff are awesome they always say hello and what are you working out today. They always ask how ur days been. It's an expensive gym but worth it.
A "Real Gym" not a Yuppie Health Club – I have been a member of Dohertys Gym for 8 years now. The style of the gym reflects Golds Gym in the USA. You will not find agressive sales people trying to sign you up. The gym has a huge male membership base, so expect to see some big boys training. With that in mind my girlfriend trains there and you do see females train as well. The staff are great and always there to help you out. The thing i really like the most is, they never close at all! Its a 24/7 Gym. You can train when you want. 24/7 Gym & its a real Gym. Dont expect a fancy Health Club look.
Vile gym full of motorbikes! And rusting equipment. AVOID – The gym is pretty scabby with water pouring through the ceiling and old rusting gym equipment. The guys there keep their motorbikes inside so it is full of leaking bikes. It's only just cheaper than the big professional gyms and they also tie you in with penalty clauses if you leave. Communal showers and regularly not enough lockers top this place off. AVOID! In town Terrible equipment, Poorly trains staff.
