Dometic CFF 45

The only good thing about this fridge is the lid and the fact you can stand bottles upright in it. The quality of this fridge is non existent in terms of actually functioning how it should. I brought mine back in Oct 2021 at BCF for $499. The thermostate went in it first, after owning it for 12months. Than in Oct 2023, there was a 12v failure.… Read more
Which turned out to be a compressor fault according to the dometic technician. The fridge was replaced under warranty with a brand new one. 12months pass on and the same thing occurs with this replacement fridge, thermostat issue. The fridge would be set to 5C but the temperature would read -17C. It wasn't freezing the items inside so it was a issue with the screen but dometic techician said it was because the settings weren't set to low.... Another 12months pass and yet another 12v failure. I would pre chill the fridge on 240v. Trickle charge the 2nd battery for 24-48hrs before hitting the road to Melb (over christmas). Turn the car on and connect the fridge to the 2nd battery and it would run. Drive for 3hrs south and the fridge would randomly turn off. Even with the ute running and charging the 2nd battery, the fridge would still not kick over. The compressor would go to engage but nothing would happen. Except an orange light every 5 seconds. A whole fridge of food gone to waste. I was not happy. We continue to drive for another 4hrs and arrive at our campspot. Open up the tool box and the fridge is running. It continued to run fine for the rest of the 2wk trip. The one thing I noticed though. It was drawing from 5.2-7amps when the compressor would engage. alot more than what is rated in the specifications. The final straw. Another camping trip away, pre chilled the fridge and trickle charged the 2nd battery before we set off. Fridge connected and ran fine. But on day 2 of the trip away, the compressor refused to engage. Despite 12.8v reading. Even connected the solar up and the fridge would try to start up but it would go from 13.2v down to 10.9v and draw 6.8-7amps which would disengage to protect the battery. Now whether its a battery issue (AGM Kickass 120ah brough in 2021 Dec - 4.3yrs old) or a fridge, who knows. But I am done with dometic. For how often we use it over 12months is a joke for it qaulity.
Would I recommend Dometic - no way. There is better products out there. If you have a waeco, hand on to it.
Bought this portable fridge/freezer from Snowys in Oct 2024 for $600 and it’s been great so far. Used it for QLD camping trips, plus at home during power outages and parties, and I haven’t had a single issue. It cools reliably, handles the heat well, and has been easy to run in different setups. Really happy with the purchase — solid, versatile, and good value. Show details
This thing stopped working after 4 days. It displayed n error code "1d" which was not to find in the manual or anywhere online. I was already thousands of km away from I bought it. I tried to reach dometic customer service and technical service for 2 days tried several menu points. Nothing. They say you can leave a msg and will call you back but they don't. I got zero help from them. Show details
Faulty Dometic Fridge with a Faulty Dometic Warranty Policy at BCF? – Purchased this fridge 6 months ago from BCF. It's "Two way opening lid" started getting harder to open on one side and finally failed! Simple issue, so I took it back to BCF under warranty for a repair, replacement or refund. I was told to take it to Battery Wise at my own time and expense because Dometic won't authorise repair, replacements or… Read more
refunds on their fridges until it has been fully assessed by one of their service agents! Battery Wise confirmed this was Dometic's policy and said Dometic wouldn't authorise anything until the fridge was fully run and bench tested and a report sent back to them for a repair to be authorised, it may take few weeks. "For a Faulty LID"...?
I didn't think this policy including the requirement for me to make needless trips to their service agent at my expense complied with ACCC Law. I thought it was always up to the Retailer who sold the item to take care of the issue and not "Duck Shove" it to a "Manufacturers" Service Agent.
Additionally if the repair couldn't be resolved within a reasonable period of time I thought it was considered to be a "Major Fault". Like taking weeks to get approval to replace a faulty Lid, entitling the consumer to a refund?
It's cost me more in running around, time and "Panadol" than the fridge and Lid are worth. Then again maybe thats the intention of this Warranty Policy? This is the second similar "Return for Warranty Repair Assessment", I've had with a faulty Dometic product . The first one was very painful as well and I've learnt my lesson, I'll give Dometic a wide berth in future incase something goes wrong. Their warranty is not worth the trouble! It's easier to send their product to Landfill where it belongs!
Eventually another BCF store gave me a "Used Replacement Lid" off a running display fridge. This was after insisting the only other alternative was to have mine assessed by a Dometic Service Agent which may take weeks? Glad i'm not travelling around Australia and relying on my new Dometic Fridge!
Please BCF don't spoil a good reputation by continuing to sell Dometic Stuff while they maintain this Warranty Policy!
Dometic/Waeco junk – Bought a brand new cff45 in early 2022 at BCF in WA to go east with (all bitumen - no rough stuff). Seemed to just cope and manage to keep stuff reasonably cold, but not great. Used once more in Brisbane for back up fridge for party - should have just got a esky full of ice. Its now early 2024 so fridge just 2 years old. Compressor runs, but no… Read more
cooling at all, which tells me the gas has leaked out. Checked the compressor, it's the cheap Chinese crap one, not the danfoss. Having read all the feedback about this junk, I won't bother even trying to contact the service agent, time would be better spent singing lullabies to deaf people. Seems like best procedure for buying Waeco/Dometic is to go home via the tip and drop it off still in the box. It will save you a lot of travel time. Save more money up and buy a Engel.
Great service – I have hadbmy Dometic cff45 for over two years I have been quite happy with its performance under touring conditions. My only criticism is that the data readout is a bit difficult to follow and recently it failed completely. However, on taking it to the Dometic Melbourne service center I was totally impressed by their fast, friendly and effective solution of the problem - which, I suspect, must be a common one as it seemed familiar to them.
These are rubbish units – I bought one a year or so ago and it worked fine for the first two uses then the half the LED screen stopped displaying followed by the compressor failing to turn on (1/3rd of the way into a month long trip). I could only run the unit as a freezer at -18C. It has been repaired under warranty but on first use last night the “On” button… Read more
malfunctioned and the unit no longer functions.
I have two friends with the same unit, purchased at the same time who have experienced exactly the same problem before me (they use their more). Both units have been repaired twice so we are not optimistic about reliability. I will be seeking a refund.
UPDATE (3 March): My refund request lead to Dometic requesting the unit for examination. It's been 4 weeks and no sign of an answer as to what they will do. I am not optimistic.
Failed under warranty, Waiting 4 - 5 months and still not repaired. No parts stock – Temperature screen failed. Had only been used twice. Dont know what temperature its set at so unusable. Have been waiting 4-5 months and service agent still have no parts to fix it with. The parts are available in Aust. but Dometic make no effort to source them. Show details
Do not buy – It was good enough to begin with. But it broke in February. I had it sent off to be repaired on the first of March 2022 and still nothing. Dometic haven't responded to my emails. I spoke to a service centre worker who basically said parts may or may not come in 2 to 3 weeks. At this point i just want a new fridge. Paying $1000 for a product you… Read more
expect it to work or at least for the manufacture to be able to send out parts quickly. Whether it's a good fridge or not is irrelevant if it doesn't work at all.
Lasted 3 months before I had to send it back – Had it for 3 months before it stopped working and got sent back for repairs. It’s been 5 weeks and fridge still isn’t fixed. Save a bit more money and buy a better fridge like an Engel! Show details
12V didn't work from the start but I honestly liked it – I did some online investigating and found the Dometic CFF 45 was what I was looking for, It worked fantastic when testing it out on the the 240V plug, outside plastic built quality was good as well and loved the double sided door openings. However I did buy this for camping, when using the 12V plug, the LED Error indicator kept on flashing red.… Read more
After reading the Operating manual back a few times and making sure it was not below the the needed Voltage /no fuse issues. I still had no luck in getting it working (tested out on a Solar / battery camping setup and two different cars 12 V).
I wanted a replacement as I did like it, however due to low stock levels I was offered a refund (enjoy dealing with my local BCF they make it so easy for returns, however due to Covid-19 they could not be more hands on).
Its a shame as i was trying to convince the wife to buy the Auto Dometic 4WD Rooftop Tent - 12 Volt one.
Its a no go now :/ and I'm out $30 for shipping
Great fridge - does as it supposed to...very well – Draws down to set temp in no time at all (used digi thermometer to check). Supplied 12V cable is way too short (so need to mount/hardwire a cig lighter in the back of the ute (no biggie). Supplied cover makes it more efficient and is a great and tight fit around the fridge. 4 hour drive (without power to fridge) still kept food/drink lovely and cold until arrived at powered camp site. Cant fault it yet. Would recommend.
CFF45 Dometic Fridge Freezer – Purchased at BCF Goulburn Dec 18 for $699 It's been running non stop as a freezer set to -16 for nearly 18 months no problems Only been turned off so a short time after a year for cleaning Quite, efficient on power, well lit interior I like the fact you can use the whole inside as a freezer But as one someone said, dice the Cigarette plug and hard… Read more
wire any fridge with heavy guage wire and a fuse to the battery which was good advice And seems to be a big killer of fridges of all brands and prices Overall I'm very happy with it so And definately would buy another if needed
