Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap
2 reviews
Be careful which version you purchase - there's lot to choose from – Found out about castile soap and this brand seemed to be highly recommended - so I purchased the HEMP product to use in the bathroom/shower. Used it in the shower - seemed OK once you get used to using liquid soap. Suds up OK and you don't need much. Then ... Next day, as the shower is drying - bathroom begins to smell like a cat's sprayed the shower - and strong. I'm horrified. We have 2 cats - so I was pointing the finger at the boy who, for no reason I could think of has begun marking his territory. (Maybe, I thought, it's spring' thing.) With a lot of washing of shower, using shower cleaners and bleach, I reckoned I'd cleaned it up after a day or so and thought myself lucky it was the shower - not the carpet or furniture. All good. Until next time I used the shower, along with this soap. Bang, a day or so later - same thing. And, I knew it wasn't the cat. Then I realised, it's the soap. Nuff said.
My suggestion, if you buy this product, get a scented one - or I noticed there's odourless.
As for the product - only time will tell.
Apparently 'Dr' Bronner isn't a doctor - and the ingredients of the variety of products available from this business should be more closely scrutinised before purchase - other reports I've read since suggest it may not be as chemically 'pure' as advertised.
DYOR
Concentrated and non-drying – Despite using hand cream religiously, my hands were getting really dry with all the extra washing to keep safe from COVID-19. After some research, I bought a few bottles of Dr Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap from David Jones. The soaps are very concentrated and I was a little bemused to see them turn cloudy and opaque in their clear bottles when it got cold, and transparent when it warmed up. They are very concentrated, and I found the best way to use them was to mix them in a 1:3 ratio with water for use in foam pump bottles. This made beautiful, soft soapy foam that cleaned well yet didn’t leave my hands feeling parched and dry.
I bought 3 variants and decided the limited edition Earl Grey was my favourite with its citrusy scent. Cherry Blossom smelt faintly of almonds, while the Rose was sweetly floral but didn’t - in my opinion - smell anything like a rose.
I’m happy with my purchase as the 3 bottles will last me for a while.
