No Good – Like the previous reviewer, I am dissatisfied with this toaster. It just doesn't toast evenly -not sure how anyone could think it does ? I send it back under warranty when I first got it and received back " works as expected". And a $25 kmart toaster works better. I still use it as it looks great and can't stomach a $350 toaster no being used. My Porsche Macan was a good buy, my Dualit toaster, not so much..... Show details
Started off a winner – I wanted an toaster that looked good, built well and was simple to operate, thought I had a winner but after 12 months the timer that turns off the elements started sticking leaving the element on. One day I had it sitting under a shelf, walked away thinking it would turn off on its own, and came back to a charred shelf. Very lucky that I noticed… Read more
it when I did. I contacted Dualit directly as I had registered the warranty but they said I needed to fix as it myself as I couldn't find my receipt. So this one goes in the bin before it burns my house down.
Expensive but I like it – it looks great and I like the simplicity of it with its leaver and nob. I’ve had it 6 months and had no issues, Show details

Nostalgia Ain't What It Used To Be – This toaster exemplifies the commitment to quality workmanship that one is entitled to expect from a $15 kmart toaster. I can only surmise that perhaps the assembler of my particular toaster (Faith) was having a bad day and the person responsible for quality control was having a smoko. In any event, my estimation of good old British hand-built quality has taken a nose-dive. The "Three generation curse" perhaps? Fool me once. Show details
Couldn't be happier! – I love everything about it - the design, the combo of steel and copper look and most of all the simple, practical, good old-fashioned manual lever to lift the toast out - none of this pop up rubbish that sends the toast flying across the room - the lift-out crumb tray and the manual-wind spring timer. Why change technology when the appliance… Read more
doesn't require it? Old is so often gold! I've only had it for less than 2 years so I hope it lasts as long as they say. Love the fact parts are replaceable. Didn't like the price tag but you get what you pay for. Couldn't be happier with an appliance.
Still going after 31 years – I have had to replace one element after 10 years and no repairs since. Was easy enough to replace by myself and not expensive to buy the element. When I die I will be sliced thinly and cremated in it. Show details
Quaint, solid main body but crumb tray and knob feel cheap. It won't satisfy everyone – We got this toaster and returned it because the two copper sides didn't match each other. That was a bit of good fortune because we got a chance to look at the toaster on our benchtop and to touch and feel it. The toaster is heavy but also massive. The 2 slice is as wide as most other 4 slice toasters. It looks for the most part to be made very… Read more
solidly. The exception are the bread crumb trays. They are literally folded 0.5mm steel. They don't fit very nicely and detract from the overall quality feel. Another negative is the bakelite knob to set the time. It's notchy and feels like something made in the 1950s. Also the only way to cancel a toast is to turn the knob clockwise and that feels even worse. And while doing so doesn't apparently damage the knob it sure feels like it will. Toasts are lowered and raised using a nice feeling lever. My kids would have hated this toaster and even I would have tired of it eventually. Basically the ability to change heating elements and the tank like build are not enough to overcome the functionality and quality tradeoffs.
But I can understand why this toaster appeals to some people. We are all different after all.
Toasts as good as it looks – Have had it for about 5 months now and hands down the best toaster. Looks so stylish, easy to use and love how high the toast comes up when ready, safe for our kids to use which is great as it means I don’t have make it all the time and give them more independence. Super easy to clean the crumb tray which means less of a fire hazard and a lot less mess. Show details
Last forever – Bought this beauty on Gumtree 6 years ago, so it'll celebrate his 30 years old birthday soon. It has wide slots and aluminium on both ends, very solid piece. There no bread crumbs around it, I suppose due to the hand lever ( it won't pop out itself.) We changed one of the heating element to start with, since then works like a Swiss clock, we… Read more
LOOOVE it. Highly recommend it to those who appreciate classic, quality & simplicity. Will never look back to electrics that brakes as soon the warranty runs out.
Best toaster around – I previously skipped over this toaster (despite its generally high reviews) as I wanted one that would toast bread machine bread without cutting. That was a mistake - although the other toaster was the highest rating of its type (and not cheap) two years of frustration and I decided to go with the Dualit. While basic in its functions, it did not… Read more
take long to master. I use either fresh homemade bread or frozen commercial. Once I got the time right for the bread every slice has been the same. It is the first toaster that my wife (who requires gluten free “bread”) has been able to get the bread actually toasted, not just either pale or burnt. I have also used the bun/bagel setting which also worked a treat.
The Aussie distributors (JR Classic Trends) recommend preheating and I think that is the reason for the consistency. We use “defrost” either to actually defrost before toasting or as a pre-heat for fresh.
I’ll acknowledge the review that the replaceable elements may cost the same as a new toaster, but I suspect the Aussie labour rates are the issue. As someone who has the skills and background to replace the elements (as does my wife) the parts cost (which we did look up) is very reasonable. Even with the labour I’d sooner repair than send yet another appliance to landfill.
While these toasters are expensive compared to the really low priced ones, when compared to well known fashion brands the additional cost is minor.
Edit: 2.5 years on and my opinion has not changed. The toaster has worked flawlessly for all that time and I would buy this again without hesitation.
Production quality issue - but Dualit seems to stand by their product – Given the claims on Dualit's website we had hoped for a high quality product that justified the big price tag. The toaster (purchased online from a mainstream bricks and mortar retailer in Sydney) feels flimsier than we expected. Perhaps our expectation was too high. The toaster lacks heft, and the legs seem to have no grip, so at the slightest… Read more
touch it slides across our s/s kitchen benchtop. The wide slot just above the toast ejector knob is crooked, possibly linked to the fact that there is a screw protruding below that slot into the area where the crumb tray goes
The Sydney retailer we purchased the toaster from has a different view of customer service than we do. So I emailed Dualit in the UK. They responded almost immediately, apologised and acknowledged that this is a production defect that should not have passed quality control. They asked me to contact the Australian importer (JR Classic Trends) which I have done. I'll update this review when I know how this works out.
Regrets...this is one of them – Bought this 12 years ago and this is second time an element has blown. One of the marketing phrases that sold me was "parts are replaceable" but I found that it costs as much to replace element as to buy a new fancy toaster so this time I don't think I will replace it. What a shame, as it cost a few hundred $$$ and I thought the kids would leave home before the toaster did. Long on style but short on substance. Show details
We love our toaster – This toaster looks amazing on our kitchen bench. We have used or for English muffins and crumpets and they have come out beautifully. We love the simple dial for time and the simple lever to lift up the bread. Knowing the name of the person who assembled it is another beautiful touch. We wanted something simple and worked well (after our previous… Read more
Breville toaster with all its sliding dials and buttons failed) and this totally fits the bill. I love it!

Brilliant! – This toaster performs brilliantly for various types of bread, whether fresh, frozen or home baked. We love the ability to select one or both slots, and tailor the toasting time to suit. The controls are simple to use, the crumb tray is sensibly located for easy emptying and cleaning. Best of all, should the heat grills or timer unit fail, they can be replaced. Show details
looks awesome in the kitchen – i really like my toaster. sometimes it does burn the toast especially with people who wind up the timer too much who have never used it. i like this way better than the digital toasters. it looks awesome too so classy would recommend for looks. i have the 2 toast slice which is all you need. Dualit older model – We have an older model dualit toaster - many are available second hand on ebay. They are really solidly built, will last a long time, and you can get spares. My main complaint is that the actual toasting is not very good. I probably wouldn't buy another one, they only accept thin slices of toast as well Show details
Nice looking toaster! – This is a lovely looking appliance and it works well. I like the manual pop up lever. It does what it is supposed to do, makes toast, but whether it does it better than any other toaster I'm not sure. The edges sometimes burn a little but I think that's because the bread was slightly uneven perhaps, I wasn't using presliced bread. Looks very… Read more
stylish in my new kitchen. It is expensive for a toaster but seems well built. Bit of a luxury item. Pretty happy with my purchase.
over priced and lacks good design – Toasts unevenly. Smart to have a slot wide enough for a bagel. Lever does not lift high enough to bring smaller toast above the slot to retrieve. Means tuning the toaster off and then fish for the toast using a sharp pointed knife ! It is bulky and does not even toast evenly. I have other toasters in my life which were cheaper to purchase and are better than this over priced over rated piece of kitchen clutter.
