Purchased the EGO 56v 470mm (18.5”) self-propelled electric mower and 5.0ah battery. So far from first use very satisfied with cut quality and the product overall. Cheaper would have been nice though at $999. Has equal power to my existing petrol Victa mulch mower which was good but sucks at mulching and is heavy, noise, stinky, etc. Battery… Read more
lasts for our whole yard which is around 250sqm of grass area and is quite steep in parts.
When the self propelled feature is in use it definitely eats battery, but in its defence I’m using it because it’s a steep incline.
Time will tell on the battery longevity.
Will update this review in about a year but so far satisfied.
Not quite perfect but very good – I finally did it… I have moved on from using a petrol-driven lawnmower and completed my transition to battery-powered yard equipment. The EGO 47cm Self Propelled Mower completes the process and I have to say that it was a largely painless process (pun intended: my right shoulder rotator cuff is already grateful). To be fair, I swapped to a 56V… Read more
EGO line edger, blower, hedge trimmer, and pole-saw a couple of years back so I had a general idea of what I was getting into. Nevertheless, with around 250 square metres of buffalo lawn I was somewhat sceptical of how an electric mower would handle it. This is particularly when the grass ‘gets away’ from me a little as it can be quite thick and at those times even my old Victa with it’s 4-stroke Honda motor can struggle.
It’s now been almost 6 weeks and I’m pretty pleasantly surprised. The EGO mostly handles things fine. I have only had it ‘stall’ once and that was when I probably had the height set too low with a particularly thick patch of buffalo.
To summarise what I see as the most positive aspects: 1. Folding and storage. I hadn’t really anticipated how easy this would be but its simplicity magnificent compared to how relatively hard it was to store my old petrol mower. 2. Quick and easy set-up and use. I find myself cutting the grass more regularly as this is so much easier. This is probably better to help the lawn run. 3. Effective mulching. I almost feel that it does a better job than my old Victa in cutting and mulching. I haven’t used the catcher at all yet, as I generally only mulch, and I doubt that this will change with the EGO which is doing an excellent job. 4. Run time. I get about 1½ cuts of my whole lawn out of one charge of the 5.0Ah battery that came with the mower. Even if it does run out it’s a quick and easy process to swap to one of the other EGO batteries that I have. They are all fully interchangeable and as part of the package I was also eligible for a free 2.5Ah battery (and that arrived within just a few days of me redeeming it online).
I do have a few minor gripes or observations: 1. A headlight?! I really don’t plan on mowing it the dark and I regards it as a bit of a wasteful gimmick. 2. Activating and controlling the self-propelled function. This wasn’t a high priority when I got it and I have only used it a couple of times in one part of our yard which is a little steep and when the lawn was a little thick. I find the positioning of the buttons to drive the wheels to be a too easily activated accidentally - which I have done several times. I would prefer it if the dial which controls the feature and speed had a more firmly activated ‘off’ setting rather than being easily moved/ bumped. 3. The height-adjustable handlebar. The lever to adjust this sticks-out on the left-hand side and if bumped against a fence or other object it will move while in use. It would be better if this was relocated to point inwards in my view. 4. Weight. To me, this mower feels heavier than my old Victa. It could be the balance, I’m not sure, but at 25 Kg + battery it’s fairly hefty. I don’t find it to be as easy to navigate around curves and garden beds as I had hoped.
Early Impression is excellent – The mower so far seems great. It's early days here so I will update review as I go with it's use. First impressions are it's easy to manoeuvre, the self propelled function is a godsend in my yard and significantly reduces my cutting time. I have Sir Walter lawn, and I mow it on the 3rd setting (some sections of yard at the 2nd). I had let the… Read more
grass go long (just over a month not mowed), and it really needed a cut.
At first i thought i'd have to raise the height and mow it over twice at different heights, but no problem at all, the mower tackled the bushy grass just fine!
I was able to complete the entire yard with two bars of battery to spare. I had to empty our catcher about 3 times (although for about half the yard i forgot that the mulch attachment was in the mower and it didn't catch it, so i estimate at least emptying it about 4-5 times. It's plenty big enough for me, and to be honest any bigger it would be too heavy.
Self propel function failures – At first I loved this mower for its ease of use with the self propel function. That didn’t last long though, in under 12 months of very light use it’s failed now for the 4th time. This time I only made it down my driveway from the shed, which is about 20 metres. It still mows fine, but the self propel stopped working yet again. Each time I take… Read more
it in for repair it takes between 2 and 6 weeks before I get it back, only to have it fail again within minutes! Very frustrating, I have now requested a full replacement, so we’ll see how that goes.
Not what it's cracked up to be – I'm now on my 3rd battery within just over 12 months replaced under warranty and this one is as bad as the previous two. It won't take a full charge and runs out of charge when I'm less than 1/2 way through mowing a relatively small area. I've also swapped the charger for another new one under warranty and it doesn't make any difference. An… Read more
expensive White Elephant costing close to $1000. I'm looking around for a store that takes trade-ins for another brand currently as I've had enough.
Died after 4 mows, won't start and at repairers – Purchased the mower at trade tools for $949 in April 22 and after 4 mows over 6 weeks the lawn mower won't start. Now awaiting for it to be repaired. Show details
Great Mower, Latest Generation Batteries Poor – I love this mower, it cuts so well and is a joy to use. However, what good is a great product if the three of the batteries fail within a year? The latest generation batteries with the letter T after the model number have serious quality issues. The previous generation batteries are great. So, I love the EGO equipment (best I've used) but three… Read more
battery failures within a year and EGO'S poor customer service in Australia, left me discouraged.
I ended up selling my EGO mower and chainsaw very cheaply and donated my line trimmer to a local garden group. Luckily, my lovely local hardware store gave me two replacement batteries (previous generation) out of their own stock as EGO was not very supportive at all They often don't reply to emails either.
Great equipment but poor batteries and poor customer service.
40+ years of using a petrol mower – Having used a petrol mower for over 40 years(and numerous brands)this is a breath of fresh air. No need for ear protection,so much quieter. I set the height on the 3rd position up from the bottom using the mulch plug, worked great. Why anyone would want to go lower than 25mm is beyond me. If you want it shorter than 25 mm, spread cement and paint it green Show details
Don't know why i was so sceptical – I was very sceptical about purchasing a battery powered mower especially after reading online reviews which were mostly negative. After lots of research and sole searching I decided to go with the Ego LM1903E-SP 47cm mower over the Victa 82v 18" Powercut and the Ryobi 36v 18" mower. I have a 330sqm front garden and 230sqm back garden both on a… Read more
level terrain with patches of buffalo grass. With the EGO mower I can just about cut both the front and back using the 27mm cut (second lowest) using a 5.0AH battery providing I don't let it grow for more than a week. I do not let the battery run lower than 20% charge.
The mower is very easy to start, easy to manoeuvre and the self propelled option is easy to get used to. The catcher is easy to connect and disconnect and fills to 100% capacity before the external indicator shows it is full. The mower and catcher are easy to clean and empty and for those who are against plastic mowers the one piece molded body it is very very sturdy in comparison to the Ryobi models.
The 5.0AH battery has a 5 light fuel gauge with each light representing 20% charge. I recharge mine as soon as it gets down to 20% and it takes 30 mins to recharge back to 100% using a rapid charger.
If I had one negative thing to say about the mower it is that it could cut lower. My model has 7 cuts at 20/27/35/45/58/70/80mm I don't know why someone would want to use a 80mm cut but that said i am happy with the finish the 27mm cut provides.
As a footnote I borrowed my neighbours Victa 82v 18" Powercut ($599) and was happy with this mower but was advised by two salespeople that it is difficult to get spare parts. I decided against the Ryobi models as they look to be poor quality and battery reputation is very poor.
Another neighbour of mine who is in mid 60's also has an EGO Mower and Line trimmer and is extremely happy with both tools and she has had them for over 9 months. Since Ego provide a 5 year product warranty and 3 year battery warranty here's hoping the longevity of the products does not require the need to activate the warranties.
I also have an EGO line trimmer and EGO blower and i could not be happier with either of these tools.
Hope this review helps as most reviews I found no matter what brand were written by people who had had bad experiences.
Like a Jaguar - broken down half the time – The mower so far has spent half its life being repairs under warranty, it has cost us more money to have an ego as we have to pay someone else to mow the lawn. No one ever calls me back, service terrible and unfortunately I regret supporting a small local business. Should have gone to Bunnings. Love the question at the bottom "On average, how… Read more
often do you use this product?"
Ive probably only used it a 8 times in over 12 month because its been with warranty repairer on 2 occasions totaling about 6 months.
The inability to lower the cutting height to less than 27mm (desired about 15mm) is a design blunder – After about 40 years of using a Victa SP petrol mower (and after reading the glowing reports) I was happy to purchase a Ego LM1903E-SP mower. The purchase was made on 4-8-2020. Very good electronics but the ability to cut lower that 27mm made me appreciate the ability of the old Victa to reduce to about 15mm. The lowest cut available with the… Read more
Ego unit is ridiculous as it does not provide as neat and clean a cut. To say I am extremely disappointed was a minimum height of about 27mm is a great understatement. If Ego cannot provide some method of lowering the height I will be stuck with a unwanted heap of junk.
EGO - Absolutely Incredible! – Wow! After returning my Ryobi Self-Propelled Cordless Lawnmower RLM36X50HP to Bunnings because (while it was their top of the range lawnmower) it simply could not cut through my newly laid Sir Walter Buffalo DNA certified lawn. I'd had to return the mower three times in four months, the final straw was when the battery got stuck in the mower… Read more
... I'd had enough! Bunnings were marvellous, Ryobi left much to be desired.
I headed to Haughton Power Equipment and bought an EGO LM1903e-SP mower. The build quality is great, the catcher is half plastic half mesh making it very easy to empty. No more struggling to adjust the cutting height EGO is spring loaded. The battery won't get stuck as it has a button which pops the battery out. No more struggling with wing nuts EGO has thought of everything from easy spring loaded levers to three height options for the handle.
My lawn was rather long as it hadn't been mown for 2.5 weeks so it was with trepidation I started the EGO mower, I needn't have worried the EGO mower glided through the grass like a knife through butter it is amazing! Not only did it mow the grass easily it's also incredibly easy to manouvre, getting into tight corners, around tree surrounds etc. It's very quiet and I mowed my front and back lawn with over half battery charge left.
This mower is numero uno ... I now look forward to mowing my lawn.
Don't believe me? Try for yourself. EGO are so confident in their lawnmower they give you a 30 day money back guarantee, no questions asked. Can't do better than that!
