Do your research – Purchased this lawn mower late November of 2024. I used it about 10 times and sadly, it broke down last week (21/01/25). It’s still under warranty, so it’s at a mower shop for review and possible repairs or replacement. The mower is easy to use, easy to put away in the shed and the battery life is excellent. I did notice however, that it never… Read more

worked at level 2 of the mower. My grass variety is Kikuyu. I found I had to mow the lawns at a higher level first and then settle at level 3 which was the best. The mower simply didn’t work at a lower level after that. Based on my experience I cant recommend this mower to anyone else. Just do your research. See photos attached, it’s shows the moment the mower broke down and the level of the grass.

** Edit 19/02/25 **

EGO Australia were very good and decided to replace the mower as new parts for our mower were not available and would have taken extra weeks to repair the mower. Our new mower has three same issues as the previous mower. If you have thick kikuyu or buffalo grass, it just doesn’t start or work. It works at level 3 or 4 but anything beyond that it doesn’t work. See photos. I do not recommend this mower under those circumstances.

however, that it never worked at level 2 of the mower. My grass variety is Kikuyu. I found I had to mow the lawns at a higher level first and then settle at level 3 which was the best. The mower simply didn’t work at a lower level after that. Based on my experience I cannot recommend this mower to anyone else. It seems it’s designed to maintain your lawns at a certain height only. This means you’ll have to use your mower weekly during summer and less so during the winter. This is not ideal for myself. Just do your research based on your grass type and usage which I should have done. I believe this mower is not suited to Kikuyu or Buffalo grass any taller than ankle height. See photos attached, it’s shows the moment the mower broke down and the level of the grass.

Good at first but turned bad quickly – First, the battery wouldn't charge out of the box so Total Tools swapped it for me. Then the self-propel stopped working. The fix-time was 6 weeks. Then after 2 years the battery started playing up, not holding its charge. I couldn't get a replacement as technically it still worked. Then, right on 3 years, which meant the warranty was over, the… Read more

battery died. Replacement cost is $450. I believe the good reviews for Ego products on the internet are being falsified. On the forums the problems with Ego mowers are well known.

Don't waste your money! – Purchased the EGO 50cm steel deck self-propelled lawn mower from my local Total Tools dealer back in January of 2022. Since purchasing the mower, I have had two major failures of the machine. The first one was only six weeks after purchasing. I sought a refund but was unsuccessful due to EGO's ridiculous policy around refunds. The policy is not… Read more

disclosed pre purchase and had I known the policy, I would have never purchased EGO products. I will admit that I should have done more research before purchasing. EGO does not have a repairer in the city I reside in and as such the mower was sent away for assessment, repair/replacement. This process was extremely drawn out and extremely frustrating. I understand that I need to be patient, but again was not told pre purchase that they don’t do repairs locally. Once EGO assessed the mower it was deemed D.O.A. meaning it was unable to be repaired. EGO replaced the mower, but not 12 months later, the same issue has arisen with the new machine. I would be lucky to have used it for five months out of the twelve months I have had it for (roughly 24 mows). Again, I returned to the store that I purchased the mower from and again I asked for a refund, only to be told that the machine needed to be assessed to ensure it was not user error. I've reached out to EGO asking for a refund, but they have said they do not do refunds on their products outside of their 30-day satisfaction period policy. I have no faith in their products or their after sales support. They happily charged $1249 for a product that cannot perform to its intended purpose. I understand that no company can guarantee that all of their products will work to their designed purpose. But 2 units in 12 months is very ordinary.

. Under the deck regularly cleaned with cloth, as it’s not recommended to use a hose. . Always stored in a garage. . The mower struggles with Kikuyu and Buffalo grasses due to its excessive thatch and runners. This causes the machine to scalp and cut out. . Mow roughly 200m2 of lawns once per week for growing season and then once per month in cooler season. . Maneuverability is good, self-propulsion works well. . Catcher is a good size and works well. . Power is good and batteries last long enough to complete the yard.

Great for 3 months, before it failed – After researching all brands through numerous reviews and speaking with a few different stores who all raved about how Ego mowers are the best... I decided the Ego LM2022E-SP self propelled was worth spending $1250 to replace my old Aldi $250 special. For the first three months I thought that I had spent my money well - even gave my old petrol… Read more

machine away. It worked like a charm, easy to operate, cut through grass easier than my old petrol machine and the self propelled function made it all very easy work. But 3 months in, it stopped part way into a mow. No lights, no power, no anything.

After finding that the phone number on all the Ego paperwork was disconnected, it should have indicated how this was going to go. I had to go searching to even find where to call! Eventually got there, was told I had to email, got a response fairly quickly and told to take it to a service agent. Annoying, but hoping it would be quick and seamless. Well 1.5 weeks since i dropped it off, no response from Ego warranty after my email chasing it up, my grass is now overgrown and wishing I could just get a refund. Wish I had seen these reviews first - it appears that failures are a very common issue.

I rate the Aldi special buys $250 machine much higher than this - 5 years and it didn't miss a beat, only maintenance i ever did was clean the spark plug. Even if it had failed, I could buy 5x Aldi machines for the price of this horrifically overpriced Ego junk.

Don't waste your money.

Very good, but not without limitations – I don’t know why I read reviews sometimes; it’s rare to find genuine reviews. By that, I don’t mean fake, rather, worthwhile. When people review an item before actually using it, or because they got a faulty unit out of the box is, IMO, worthless… especially when a new item is to be provided but someone is too impatient to wait for it to come in,… Read more

because most stores only keep one of each model in stock. It’s impossible for companies to have a 100% quality rate, without smashing up the price to account for added scrutiny (like Apple), but Ego are very good with warranty (the business you’re dealing through sometimes not so much).

I’ve had ego equipment for years, and am constantly expanding my range. This was my mower of choice, and I don’t have much negative to say about it. It is powerful and reliable, sturdy and capable.

I changed to electric from a Honda HRU196M mower and Honda GX35 brush cutter. Around 2010 models, so commercial level equipment. These were great machines, but my lack of weather resistant storage led them to premature deterioration.

My Ego mower matched my Honda in power, but with a few drawbacks. First, I don’t cut my lawn religiously, every week. So I noticed the Ego’s struggle to pick up high volumes of clippings. I changed to a high lift blade and this helped immensely. Second, as with all electric motors, if you are going through heavy/thick/long grass, you don’t get the warning of it being about to stall. So it’s much easier to set the height to the maximum, so one pass, then pop it down to your finished height.

One problem has been the catcher attachment holes/area getting clogged with dirt but I think they might have changed the catcher on the newer models. I’ve never had any issues with the electronics or batteries, have washed it, and have stored it in the same exposed position that I did with my Honda. 3 years on there is no signs of excessive deterioration.

As for others reporting corrosion.. it’s a steel deck mower. Don’t buy steel if you aren’t willing to maintain steel. You scrape the bottom when going over curbs, steps, retaining walls, etc (while manoeuvring between lawns), if you don’t take the time to increase your height. This is not the fault of the mower, rather the operator (including myself). You also get impacts from rocks and anything else you might encounter; a mower deck coating cannot be expected to withstand these impacts without chipping or scratching. The only way moisture comes into the equation is storing it exposed to weather or mowing wet grass, in which case the onus is on you to take steps to prevent corrosion. Like I said, I’ve washed mine and stored it outside, yet I’ve kept mine rust free with the odd inspection, clean and spray (deck only - with a basic corrosion inhibitor like fish oil or crc).

Ego had been, in my opinion, some of the best electric outdoor power equipment I’ve used, and I have used others’ alternative branded equipment, including other big brands. I do buy the higher models, and don’t strain my batteries, but I am very satisfied with performance and longevity. Going back to petrol while helping others has left me noticing just how good my equipment is, not to mention the noise and hassle of refuelling/maintenance.

Faulty mower out of the box – Not sure how to rate this mower, straight out of the box the variable speed drive had only one speed FLAT OUT. I returned the mower where it was purchased from and they classified it as DOA and ordered a replacement. Two weeks have passed and still no replacement mower. I am contemplating requesting a refund and purchasing a different brand. Show details

Fantastic lawn mower – Had this mower over 4 years and it hasn’t missed a beat! Was skeptical at first to buy electric option but so glad we made the leap! Would never go back to petrol! Show details

STAY AWAY - you are hereby warned! – This mower was highly rated by CHOICE magazine, to which I have subscribed for over 50 years. I was happy with the design and power of the model and bought one. Now that I have had it for 4 months and used it 4 times, it has failed twice and is currently in their repair shop awaiting parts. Many contacts with the retailer (Heidelberg Mowers) and… Read more

the EGO Warranty office (not EGO themselves, they sub it to "Install and Fix Solutions" in Queensland), have not led to any resolution of the problem. A machine which was supposed to be reliable, easy to use and covered by a long warranty has been nothing but a headache. My old petrol mower lasted for over 20 years with only an occasional spark plug and oil change. There must be a quality gap between the design and manufacture of EGO mowers. I have bought a STIHL battery electric mower for my daughter so hoping for a better result with that brand.

The Ego Electric mower is a very competent lawnmower – I had one of the first generation ego lawnmowers and found it to be very good, ( see my review on here) but decided it was time after three years to update to the latest model. I have unboxed the new mower and give my lawn a once over, my grass was a little high as it's been two weeks since I mowed the grass but the new mower has bucket loads… Read more

more power than the old one and cut through the grass easily, I was mowing green grass that was just a little damp and was very pleased that the grass catcher was actually stuffed into the bag very tightly, my front nature strip is a combination of okay grass but with the lot of cape weed in this and using the side shoot went over this very easily, I love the self-propelled thing and got used to it very quickly.

It goes without saying all the benefits that comes with electric lawnmower is just great no stinking fuel to mix up no oil changes and very little servicing apart from sharpening the blades once in a blue moon, this model came with the 7.5 amp hour battery that easily has enough power to do my standard size yard with weed whacking first then after the job using my leaf blower to clean driveway and footpaths all on the same battery, didn't quite realise when I was buying the top of the range model that it came with the fast charger is well so that was a real surprise.

I will finish off by saying if you are considering buying a quality mower then you must consider the ego range of mowers also I would just like to mention there is a great you Tube video from I think the Aussie tool guys who review all kinds of electric battery tools including most of the ego product range. ego gives a three year warranty on the battery and five year warranty on the lawnmower, I don't think too many others electric or otherwise give as good a warranty.

Hope this has been a help.

PS I will do an update after six months use.

Great when it works – The mower is great... when it works. It has plenty of power to cut and the self propelled function is great up hills. However it went back for repair after 1 month after i went to use it and the only thing that worked was the self propel. No motor power etc. Got it back with everything working again only to pull it out today to have the same fault again. Not happy considering the $1099 price tag.  Show details

Model LM2022E-SP – Positive in that it is so easy to start, no fuel to worry about. Quick charge unit. Mows yard with power to spare. The self propel with variable speed helps a great deal, I don't feel as though I've been mowing at all; I use the medium speed range for my stride. It is a little long from front wheel to the handle but still very maneuverable. I… Read more

find the 1 height cut okay for most of my yard, only change to 2 setting for the footpath which has a few height differences. I have had an issue with the battery dying after only 3months, but it was replaced without any problems (albeit having to wait over a week for it to be assessed and approved for replacement). Have now discovered that the base plate is rusting underneath (it's just 6 months old) and only used around ten times. Will be asking the retail outlet where I bought it from what will happen with this. UPDATE 31.05.18 A new replacement mower arrived today:-)
