I teach on this model, it’s perfectly ok for beginners, has a good range of practical stitches, is simple to use and no nasty habits. The bobbin winding is easily selected by pulling out handwheel. The front loading bobbin case system is reliable, providing you read your manual and load it correctly. It’s a bit rattly but that’s the nature of front loading. We have 7 machines, used weekly now for three years and no issues at all. Light is ok too. The only setting you can’t alter is stitch width, this is pre-set by the stitch selector for all. You can adjust stitch length through 0-4. But for the price it’s a worthy beginners machine

Purchased in at Spotlight for $350.

Perfect for beginners – Sold online from Janome Everton Park Queensland, and sent to Sydney Metro for a reasonable $12. This machine is a basic mechanical model (not computerised), but still has multiple stitches and button hole features. Setup was easy peasy for any experienced person, but has step by step instructions for the complete novice. My wife loaded up a couple of bobbins, and within 15 minutes, had taken up the hems on two pairs of pants. The machine was stable enough without undue vibrations, and sewed smoothly with the adjustable speed foot pedal. A led light at the presser foot made sure everything was going straight. Perfect for beginners, and the occasional sew /repair. Certainly won't break the bank. (currently on special at 50% off. Buy it for $199 + delivery)

My daughter asked to borrow this sewing machine, and has now returned it after some 3 months. She made curtains for the house, and took up some pants and dresses.....To make this short...she wants one!

I know what to get her for this Christmas now...LOL

Purchased in for $200.
