Hard to believe – I bought the new 40 l Engel combo recently for my new campervan conversion. After building the base for it I fitted it and connected to 12 V. I noted the elevated noise level because I had Engel fridges previously. Interestingly the high pitch noise it produces even without the compressor working is a constant. It's impossible to sleep in the van… Read more

with it going. Turning it off while sleeping results in the temperature reaching 12 degrees after 6 hours even in cool conditions. While I don't doubt " A LEGEND IN RELIABILITY" , for my application it's useless. While i did some research before buying there was nowhere information provided on this elevated noise level. I doubt that anyone would buy if they would be aware of it, except for hearing impaired people maybe....

So noisy – I agree with the above statement, my new fridge is so noisy it will keep us awake camping. Will be ringing engels ASAP. This is a disgrace for such a high end product. Very very disappointed. Show details

Sept 2020 - Latest model is far too noisy – Researched portable 12v & 240 before settling on this new model - which allows you to vary the sizes of the fridge and freezer sections. Advertised as being for your camper, car, van etc but was very disappointed to discover how much noise this unit made. It made more noise than my home fridge. Someone else online has described the noise as… Read more

“worse than a diesel engine”. The constant, high-pitch whine noise, and the extra noise when the compressor kicks in, made sleeping with it in or near (outside) an insulated van impossible. I am also very concerned about damage to hearing because I understand that the lack of variation in the noise generated, over extended periods of time, damages the ear cilia at that specific frequency. I compared it to the earlier Engel model and ran them side by side = The new 45FC model is at least x3 times louder. None of this is disclosed anywhere & the retailer would not take it back because “You’ve opened the package and plugged it in.” WT!? Of course I did! How about you (or Engel) disclose how noisy the thing is! I also have a Waeco Dometic which, by comparison, is virtually silent. The retailer also claimed Engel wouldn’t help them with the product if my only issue was noise and they could not resell it. I do not know if this is true or not? They only “take back unopened items”. I also did not receive the fixing kit I paid for in the order but the retailer says I did. “Did I check inside the box and fridge?” Well, yes - Still not there and surely if they opened the packaging to place the items inside, they’d be breaching their own requirement of “unopened packaging” for returns? My opinion is that their claimed return policy is worthless. This expensive item is useless to me. Considering my legal options atm.
