Poor build quality, but passable after self-repairs – After the first short trip (with only about 70km of reasonably smooth unsealed road) a metal component inside broke off, rattled over to the fan and broke a blade on it. Closer inspection revealed a poor quality spot weld had broken. This crippled the cooling ability of the unit, but thankfully did not puncture the evaporator radiator. Also seen… Read more
was the main supply in to the unit extended using spade terminals. These were covered by unshrunk heatshrink, which slid around freely on the wire (thankfully it had not shorted out yet).
Access to the compressor housing was easy, and I replaced the stock fan with a much higher flow fan. The stock controller couldn't handle the current of this fan, so I wired it to the main supply from the switch on the unit. Works a treat again and gets cool much quicker than it ever did before now. Also worth noting that the compressor is a sealed unit - there are no recharge ports fitted to the loop.
Internally this has two compartments, the larger of which has a basket to ease access. The smaller compartment connects to the main one via a small vent and keeps cool, but not as cold as the main compartment - good to put the drinks in while your food is in the main section.
As with any top loading fridge/freezer, it's a bit awkward to get in and clean, but this is not a problem specific to this model/brand.
Beware – After 350 hours our fridge is no longer working. It has a gas leak in the sealed unit. It has never been on corrugated roads. Terrible customer support for 3 year old fridge/freezer. We are extremely disappointed will not buy Evakool again.
Repair nightmare – I have an IB 50 ac/dc fridge freezer , it is 6 years old and now the thermister (thermostat controller) is no longer working. I have contacted Evakool re the problem, and ordered a new one, but 6+ weeks later I am still waiting for the part with no eta of supply. Be very careful when buying Evakool as they do not seem to be able to supply parts for repairs to be carried out. Show details
Unbeatable service, great products – First I got the fridge/freezer unit, and I'll add more once it's done a proper trip, but so far very good. Later ordered the travel cover and aux power supply. It's almost Christmas and still they managed such a fast delivery I cannot believe it. Customer service staff I spoke with on the phone couldn't have been better, friendly, efficient and made efforts to ensure I got exactly the right product for my need. Show reply

Needed it again this Xmas but would not get cold so now out of warranty.$750 to have it work only once. Evakool they call it, but if like me you buy one , you are an eva fool.

Now out warranty a waste of $480.91 $140 repair not a happy camper Will not go evakool again or Bendigo tow bar centre.
Never Kool – Purchased 60 lt it lasted approx. 6 weeks then stopped working, had it replace with another it only lasted about same distance in time. They work when your got them hooked up at home or driving on smooth bitumen, but the moment you start driving over rough bitumen or gravel roads ( and i still mean roads not rough off roading ) ,they fault and… Read more
wont reset. And the warranty, evakool will admit that they're was a fault made when assembling your unit, but there is no claim back on goods lost ( persished ) due to the fridge not working correctly. Cheap Misleading infomation on what it could do and very poor warranty
