NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. UNACCEPTABLE QUALITY. TERRIBLE DESIGN – Door seal fell off & melted into the machine tangling & ruining clothes . Not good design. Not built to last. Long wait times.. Technician cancel at last minute - twice & lie about calling back.. Show details

Agreed on the sheets – Agreed on the sheets - what a design feat! Remove an important proven design element for drying sheets - a drum that revolves both ways - and replace it with one that only revolves one. Design of the year award; I think not.

Just waiting for it to blow up! – Have never really been happy with this dryer, not drying properly, sheets and towels balling up. Now just out of warranty it is making the same noise as many others are reporting. I had a service guy come out last week, F/P payed for parts I payed for call out $160. Less than 1 week and it is making the same noise. Will be contacting F/P again… Read more

after the Easter break to fix again at their expense(surely there is warranty on their own work), If this happens again I will be calling for a refund. Always been happy with F/P products but bought the matching washer at the same time and the tech tells me its “normal” for it to occasionally leak water (about a cup) from the bottom of the washer during a cycle. Next time I need to purchase any appliance it will not be a F/P product.

Same issue definite design fault – The front roller guides are not fit purpose yet destroyed in a matter months. With so many other complaints with the same issue this is definitely worthy of a recall. Fisher and paykel only have technician in perth also leading to long service times... he has fixed it twice just inside warranty.  Show details

Avoid Fisher & Paykell - hopeless Service – We purchased this dryer 3 years ago. It is designed as a large robust family machine but in our case it only gets low usage and recently broke down. All machines can break but living inner-city we need a clothes dryer and service is an essential part of ownership for any product. We booked a service call with F&P, joined the queue, waited the… Read more

time but they cancelled the day before sighting one of their technicians was sick and the other one was on leave (only 2 for Sydney?). Next available time is two weeks away.

It appears their practice is to place you back on the end of the queue if they can't make it on the agreed day, no matter how long you have already waited for a service.

As a dryer and despite all the advertised features, it's only a very average dryer. The auto sensing does not function well and clothes often need to be returned for a second time.

Fisher & Paykell chose not responded to any of our emails so we decided to replace the Fisher & Paykell dryer with a reputable brand.

Never again - waste of money – The dryer was a lemon to begin with and F&P were not pleasant to deal with. I had a guy come out 4 times (between Dec - Feb) and they claimed each time it was different problem. I wasn't going to pay for it to be fixed as it was still relatively new. They extended the warranty for extra time to compensate the dramas. I wont even buy the new version. This version has been discontinued and are also very poor.  Show details

Absolute Junk! – Fisher & Paykel is supposed to stand for quality & reliability right? WRONG! Although this model is now discontinued, I'm sure that the new model has not addressed the problems mentioned here- This dryer is the greatest piece of junk that I have ever purchased, and if I had the strength I would take it to their Sydney offices in Lidcombe &… Read more

throw it through the front window!

It twists sheets into a tight, hot, wet ball because there is only 2 "agitator" blades in the barrel (obviously an attempt to save money). This means that EVERY sheet has to be dried individually, stopping the machine twice during each "load" to remove the sheet and untangle it!

What a wonderful way to waste electricity, and a Saturday afternoon- NO "set and forget" with this baby!

Any washing machine or dryer needs 3 blades to prevent this happening- unfortunately I didn't check this when I decided to purchase, I just thought F&P would know how to make something properly!

The lint filter catches very little lint, so you have to vacuum the interior of the air passages regularly.

After 8 months it stopped all-together and the tech that came to replace the faulty solenoid hinted that he spent most of his time doing this job!

The door covering the heat exchanger started falling open after 13 months.

It has been making loud rumbling noises since it was about a year old. We're just waiting for it to die- hopefully within the 5 year extended warranty period that we purchased with it. We would then replace it with (probably) a Bosch (we have a front loader washing machine from them- brilliant!).

The dryer also produces a massive amount of hot damp air in the room- something that a condenser dryer is NOT supposed to do. We had a Bauknecht (unfortunately not available in Australia) for 15 years and it NEVER did this.

Frankly Fisher & Paykel seem to be relying on their reputation and not bothering to produce quality anymore,.

DO NOT purchase this dryer. The manufacturer appears to have NO idea of how to design or manufacture a good condenser dryer.

Spend a few dollars more and buy a Bosch.

Terrible design from a brand that should know better – The comments about twisting sheets into a tight, hot, wet ball are completely accurate. I clean the lint filter after every use, and the "clean lint filter" still comes on about half the time when I start a new load (it waits just long enough for you to walk away and start something else). The lint filter catches very little lint anyway, so I have… Read more

Good Dryer but is this model a lemon? – We are onto our 3rd service call on a 2.5 year old dryer, I am a little but worried how long it will be until my protection under the consumer guarantees act runs out. I live in New Zealand. The story so far.... Hi All We purchased the first model of this dryer in October 2014. Early last year was the first service call when the dryer stopped… Read more

working (Dryer about 18 months old). Service guy came out and diagnosed fault to the capacitor. Fixed that and dryer was back working. Off and on from here the dryer started getting progressively louder. Fast forward to July 2016, after putting up with the progressively louder and louder rumbling noises from the dryer (Dryer then 21 months old), we had the technician out a second time to fix the noise the dryer was making, during this service called the technician replaced the drum rollers from memory after this call dryer working fine. I asked the technician at this point if this early models of this machine were lemons to which he said "no you're just having a bit of bad luck"

Fast forward to last week (Dryer now 2 years and 6 months old) so now 6 months after the warranty period of 2 years ran out. The dryer now sounds like an industrial concrete mixer full of rocks when it starts up which quietens down to a domestic concrete mixer filled with slightly smaller rocks throughout the cycle. I phoned F and P customer care who advised me that the dryer is now out of warranty, to this I replied so the dryer is two and a half years old so will still be covered under the consumer guarantees ACT the person on the phone agreed and sent the technician out. As luck would have it the same technician that came the first two times came out again let me say that the technician himself is brilliant. This time he has diagnosed the problem is the pulley on the main motor which looks like it is getting fixed under warranty this job has not yet been completed as he neededbto order parts. Whilst I was waiting for them to arrange the parts and organise to come vsck out to fit them I did some research on problems these dryers are having. Here I found information on the reverse rolling kit that can be retrofitted to the older machines which allowed for periodic reverse tumbling drying sheets. Today I find Fisher and Paykel to talk to them about it and they initially said no machine is out of warranty not going to happen I pushed the issue and they have agreed to fit or retrofit this part so it will be interesting to see if they follow through and also how much of a difference it makes when drying sheets. I will keep you updated. Bye for now!

My biggest disappointment was from F&P themselves. They have never called me back as promised and when I call to speak to a supervisor (as the phone operater cannot make that desision to replace the dryer) they put me on hold for 25 minutes and then proceeded to inform me the supervisor has has gone home. Died After A Year!! – Great that this item does not blow air and dust out into the room or for you to have to vent this outdoors. This purchase was disappointing and the item died after exactly a year. Not that we use it much as well. Very disappointed as we did pay a premium for this over a normal dryer. Still a Fisher and Paykel fan! – Recently bought the dryer and have been experiencing the same problem with drying sheets that everyone else has. I followed Outbacklad's advice and rang Customer Care, stating that I wanted someone to come out and fix it so that it would reverse tumble. They were excellent. Repairman coming out next week. Very happy with service so far. PS. I change the Dryness Level to 'Extra Dry' and have no problems with drying towels.

In calling the F&P customer care line, they claim to know all about it ... obviously given that there has been no communication to any customers!

The long and short of it is that they have to send two technicians out for a few hours to pull the dryer apart and install some new part.

How they could ever release such a flawed product without it able to do what it is supposed to do is beyond me.

Anyone who already has one would be well within their rights to return it to the retailer for a full refund on the basis that it doesn't do what it was advertised to do.

Learnt the tricks - now I love it – I bought this drier a few weeks ago and had the same issue as everyone else with the sheets.. My heart sank - I've wasted my money! But after reading the manual, it says on bulky loads add in a towel with a knot tied in it.. I added 2... Works great... No longer do my sheets roll up into a ball, but dry nicely... Very wrinkled, I must admit, I didn't have much success with the wrinkle free selection, but at least they are dry...

poor ventilation. I was very pleasantly shocked at how much water the dryer accumulated in the container which would normally end up in the atmosphere of our house! Yesterday I did 4 loads of washing all of which were dried in this dryer. I think it worked very well, dryer is easy to use, not overly noisy and holds A LOT of washing! Very happy with normal loads!

Then I tried to do the sheets......

I now completely understand now why people are not very happy about this. it does roll them into a ball which thuds inside the dryer - I can't imagine this would be good for the dryer. I have found two workarounds: - Go back to the dryer every 10-15 mins or so and untagle the load (not very convenient) - Or, dry sheets with a few pairs of Jeans (again, not very practical if you have White sheets and new jeans, however I was successfully able to dry a dark set of sheets by combining it with a few pairs of Jeans in the dryer).

I really do hope that F&P do something to rectify this. Especially for a Condenser dryer, where I think most people who purchase a Condenser dryer are in the situation where they do not have access to a clothesline or have a limited laundry space.

Perfect dryer unless you dry blankets, sheets and large towels – Couple months ago we exchanged our dated Simpson vented dryer with Fisher & Paykel Condenser dryer but soon after having the F&P we found out that the drum did not rotate in both direction and drying sheets, blankets and large towels became nightmare as the dryer created huge steaming balls and we had to pause the cycle many times to un-tangle it.… Read more

If we didn't have so many sheets and blankets to wash (having 3 large dogs explains why) the dryer would be perfect.

Otherwise the dryer was perfect. Clothes came out nicely dry. All the controls were placed very efficiently and worked perfectly.

Fisher & Paykel were extremely understanding and offered store credit. They acknowledged the design flaw and told us they work on updating the dryer software to allow the bi-directional movement of the drum. Their customer service was exceptional and that's why they deserve 4 stars!
