Garmin 2595lmt - 2 years old - worked fine until screen went into a mode of static - (not black but colored static) - is it a goner!???

There are probably three (3) things to consider before considering the worst. 1. Have you tried totally closing down the device and rebooting? As the GPS is really a small computer, they need to be totally powered off every now and then to properly clear out and reset.

Disconnect unit from power lead, HOLD finger on the ON/OFF button for several seconds (if in doubt several seconds is better longer than shorter).

[An aside: Smart phones and similar devices should also be regularly fully shut down and rebooted. The first thing to do if your phone, or an app, does not seem to be working properly or is slow is to do total close down and reboot.]

2. Another issue to look at is to ensure the device is not overheated sitting in the Sun on the windscreen. If so, allow it to cool then try the reboot process.

3. Try connecting the device to the Garmin App on your computer to update to the latest OS.

If you have no luck with all of the above, contact the dealer/manufacturer under the warranty if it is still under warranty.

Good luck.

Kevin - you led me the right way. I couldn't get it to close down to try rebooting - so I left it unplugged until battery went dead. Then I plugged it back in & it works perfectly - in essence it rebooted itself. Thanks for the idea. Bob

Not necessarily, it could actually be your cable! i found that out AFTER i bought a new one and connected the old GPS to my cable to test it out... try another cable if you can first before you discard it! I ended up upgrading mine (as it was older than yours) and the new version i bought has a built in dash cam!!

does this unit have auto on and off via ignition regards peter

Hi Peter, yes, if the GPS is plugged into my accessories socket (12v) and I start the car, it comes on. Conversely, if it is running and I stop the car, it gives you the option of keeping it going by pressing the power button, or turning off in about 15 seconds if you do nothing. Regards, John.

Hi, don't know what's happening with your unit, as mine has rarely missed a beat in terms of tracking the correct route. The main problem I've had is sometimes it doesn't understand the voice command, but is generally ok in this area. I would suggest you contact Garmin asap as the unit may be faulty. Regards, John.

Can Europe maps be uploaded into the Garmin 2595?

Mr. Fix it

Hi Mike, I don't know as I've never looked into this. If you can't find it in the instructions, I'm sure Garmin will be able to answer this question for you. Regards, John.

do they work any where in oz

webwrx

The GPS maps cover all of oz and it works anywhere in oz. The Suna traffic info will only work in the bigger capital city metro areas. If you Google Suna Traffic there's some traffic coverage maps on the Suna website.

This is one of the 2012 models lineup - which are the current version. I've seen the price of this model range from $168 up to $360. My advice is to shop around.

What processor does 2595LMT use?

Muttley

No idea . Ask the manufacturer

webwrx

It's quite slow calculating routes and slow to refresh the screen when scrolling the maps. That could be slow processor and/or slow memory access. Nothing on the specs page on Garmin's website.

Does Garmin provide operating instructions for the nuvi 2595LMT gps system ? Given time I might fathom out how to use it properly, but I'm anxious to start using it now, at least within the next few days before I take off into the 'wilds' of Australia.

There's starter instructions in the box. You can also download a full PDF users manual. There's also help screens on the unit itself which explain what the settings mean (but the help screens don't always match up with all the options available).

Using it can be as simple or as complex as you want.

It's very intuitive to get started. Two big options when you turn it on - you can either find a place to go to (and then start a route), or just go straight to the map page. I'm sure you'll work out the basics in under a minute.

The voice command is very good - once you customise the catch phrase to something unique and high-scoring.

If you like to fiddle and explore like me, then you'll probably get a little frustrated with all the options and clumsy scrolling around... but I like to sniff and delve into every aspect of a gadget and understand every little thing it does... and there's a lot of resources on the web to help you understand the different features.
