Bought from Outbax, Dead on arrival, will not start. eventually after much stuffing around managed to start it by manually overriding the choke. but as it is out of the box it will not start. sent a detailed description of the issue, long wait, then they wanted video's. asked for conformation they had received and took a few days just to confirm… Read more
they had and they had been sent to the "technician". after another week another email and claimed they have not heard from the "technician" im a month out from purchase still without a working generator. they have now said they are sending a courier to pick it up. will update as it happens - but as of now would recommend not touching with a 10 foot pole

Perfect Power Plant – Over the last few months I have found the new 2022 Gentrax 4.2KW electric start generator to be a quiet and powerful upgrade from the previous 3.5KW model . Even though I had mixed results from the 3.5 generator I did like it enough to upgrade to Gentrax's latest 4.2KW unit . Apart from engine oil it is just about ready to use straight out of the… Read more · 1
box with some minor tinkering needed . The battery must be connected ; not a huge problem , however the outer sheath of the battery leads must be cut shorter to allow the positive and negative cables to reach their respective terminals . The battery supplied was flat , not dead flat but it didn't have enough power to turn the engine over so it had to be charged prior to refitting . Once this was done the unit fired up instantly and I found it to be much quieter than the 3.5 despite its larger engine and greater power capacity . The remote start is a little fiddly but is easy enough to use with practice . However the same problem as found with the 3.5 unit remains ; the ignition must be turned off at the unit's key switch or else the battery will drain , so turning it off remotely at night without leaving a van or cabin isn't really practical if you need it to start the next day . It is a useful feature if you are up a ladder or over a fence and want to start and stop the unit while working . There is one problem to this , despite what the instruction booklet states the generator just won't start from hot without the choke being used , a strange quirk that could be annoying in remote start circumstances though I found it easy enough to live with . It's big and heavy as well, at 45kg fully oiled and fueled . Easy enough to manoeuvre with its large wheels and fold down handle however it would be a trial to get it in and out of a van or ute on a regular basis , it's not something you would want to be lifting daily . Photographs show that it takes up almost the entire rear boot space of my Landrover . I use it almost exclusively as a static powerplant at my farm and rarely move it about , it is perfectly suited for use in this type of application .
Do I like it , most certainly yes . It's smooth , quiet and powerful with frugal fuel consumption , it powers pumps and high current capacitor start equipment easily , it has excellent load response and a very low idle speed . This slow speed contributes to its quiet operation , most time when using only lighting at the farm it does not need to perform over idle to supply the power needed .
It does everything I need and more with a minimum of fuss .
4.5KW max . 3.5KW continuous 12volts DC at 8amps [ ample for battery charging ] 230cc engine 8.8 litres unleaded fuel capacity
Excellent product – Remote and key start were the selling point. Runs really quiet. Battery a little tricky to get in as it was such a tight space, but managed without ripping the connecting wires off. Flexi funnel for oil was very handy (supplied) have to remove side panel first, not a deal breaker. Have run for about 4 hrs to break in without drama. Hooked up to… Read more · 1
my Gen change over switch at power box, lights and power points only, ran a 5 bed house easy, just keep tabs on your running limit (3.5) and be aware of heat lamps in bathrooms. Def wd recommended, had no luck finding reviews for this model. Don’t see the need for a over priced Honda or other big brand if only using for power cuts or occasional camping.
From new it would not start by key & 3rd time used compression lock on starting ripping cord from hand – From new this unit would not turn over by key, even after charging the battery to 12.8v. With less then 5hrs of total running on it from the 1st two times used, on the 3rd time to be used it would not start, it was extremely difficult to pull start and would compression lock and kick back ripping the cord out of my hand, causing injury to my hand!… Read more
Not Fit for purpose - Selling agent (OutBax) difficult to deal with and stalling my right for warranty and consumer law. Unsympathetic to my injury from a faulty unit.

Item was lost in transport for 2 weeks, but tracked down eventually. By following the user manual supplied, I had no trouble starting the generator. Very well supported product. Show details · 1
Decided to upgrade my old Millers Fall Gen that seized up with only 520 hrs of run. Hopefully this one will be much better having a higher rating. Cant say too much about this new generator yet as I have yet to receive it. Looking at the details all looks good but time will tell. Show details · 1
We are on the side of the road freezing with flat house batteries. You generator will not charge them and goes into fault mode every time. When we left home 4 days ago the generator ran every thing but now NOTHING. We are not happy with product. Show details

This is a great generator. I purchased it as a backup generator for my home during blackouts, but to also use if I need power for a caravan down the track. This generator starts easy and isn't to loud. The delivery was swift, as was the customer service. Show details · 1
I purchased this as a power back-up in case of blackouts, which I predict in the foreseeable future. I set it up and had it operating and it is not too noisy (about 60DB under normal operation). It has 2 15amp outlets and produces about 4.2KW power. It has wheels for easy access and uses unleaded petrol as fuel. It is expected to run for about… Read more · 1
4.5 hours under full load on a 8.8 litre tank of fuel. The cost was quite reasonable, and had been discounted, which was nice. I expect that should we have blackouts, as a result of our current reliability on solar and wind power, then the price of this will rapidly increase. So this has been purchased as a bit of insurance, just in case we do have blackouts.
The generator is excellent. Starts easily, is very quiet, and runs for 5 hours or so on a tank of fuel. Importantly, its easy to handle. Re the service and delivery from Outbax, the unit arrived within a couple of days of ordering. We were fortunate to buy it "on sale" and so were very happy with the price. We use it as a backup to supply outages, and it's excellent for this purpose. Show details · 1
We have used this generator twice and it comfortably powers our whole home with the aircon running also. I am very impressed with the remote starter , do not have to pull the starter cord, very convenient and has started up first time. Its a great equipment for off grid and during an outage. Show reply
We required a reliable easy to use standby generator in case of loss of main power supply, the main requirements are.. 4/5 kw, inverter (clean power) long run time, quiet, and easy start. We tried 2 systems that seemed to fit the bill, but both had problems. so we looked at the Outbax offers, decided ok, purchased a 4.2 remote start generator,… Read more · 1
and yes it arrived promptly, cost around $1000.00, with wheels to move it about.. works great, Outbax followed up with a product check, great service.. Thanks OUTBAX. Highly recommended. keving

My Outbax Gentrax GTX4200 Pro Inverter Generator arrived within the week of ordering, fuelled it up and added oil, gave one pull to start and to my delight it started first go, then after a couple of minutes stopped it and then used the remote to start and again started no problems, couldn't be more delighted. was outstanding beyond my expectations, hence i am pleased to write this review and have recommended Gentrax to my grey nomad friends. Also i forgot to previously mention, before the generator arrived i was supplied by email so i could download and print out the directions on how to operate and maintain the generator. All in all Outbax is an awesome company to do business, with an awesome generator. Richard.
These units are superb! After a very short time, about 2 months, I purchased a second unit to take full advantage of the parallel capability. Wow! These units are easy to start, and they sync very quickly to become a single generator roughly twice the size. Both units (together) provide all the power necessary as a back-up to our off-grid solar… Read more · 1

I was so impressed; I built a small device to automatically start and stop for both units triggered directly from the dry contact of the Growatt SPF 5000 and an ESP8266 I can trigger the remotes of both units to start and stop both generators, automatically when the Growatt considers the batteries are getting low. This is simple and safe, as there is no connection to any 240v power anywhere. The device monitors the generator using a hall effect sensor, so it knows when power is on, and off.
These generators work first time every time. Say goodbye to solar anxiety.
Purchased the generator as a back up for the home in the event of power failure. We needed it post Cyclone Alfred for 7 days. It is easy to start and runs well: we used it to power water pump and fridges without an issue. Show details · 1
I couldn’t be more pleased with the 4.2kva Genny. The starting option are a great feature. I am surprised how quiet it is. In comparison to my Honda 2.2kva I would say they sound the same. I thoroughly recommend Gentrax generators. Show details · 1
My wife and I purchased the Outbax generator as possibly one of the most unromantic Christmas presents ever at the end of last year! Roll forward to March 2025 and Cyclone Alfred left us without power for 10 days. I can honestly say this purchase was one of our best ever! The Outbax generator did not miss a beat, it was easy to set up and use and… Read more · 1
kept our household going for those 10 long days. We had a change-over switch installed into the main circuit board of the house so were able to use most of our appliances this way. We were also pretty pleased with the fuel consumption, considering the Outbox was running from dawn until dusk most days, with just some breaks in the middle of the day. Super pleased with our product.
Remote start and stop works better than others. Seems to have automatic choke when remote starting from cold. Was able to power a 240v water pump, pressure washer, household load and 40A charger (for our LiFePO4 battery bank) all at the same time. Only downside is that motor will choke momentarily when you add a big load (e.g. turn on the 240v water pump) and voltage will drop momentarily. Show details · 1
I can highly recommend the Gentrax 4.2 KW Generator. It packs a punch for its size and was our saviour during recent extended power outages in my area. It was fully capable of running 4 fridges and a pool pump over 5 days. Super satisfied with my purchase. Show details · 1
The Gentrax 4.2KW Inverter Generator GS-4000ie was a great buy. Works well. Got a great deal. Outbax emailing me the manual before it was delivered was a nice touch. It shows they are customer focused. Very happy. Show reply

Gentrax 4.2kW Inverter Generator – We have installed an input point to our meter box and in a power blackout we were able to power the house on the points needed, as we have a pump for tank water and two pumps for biocycle as well as a fridge and a freezer. WE had learning steps on the way bu these were overcome and the generator worked well. Show reply
Great value with decent quality – After doing extensive research, I decided on the Gentrax brand vs other premium brands due to the incredible savings and reviews. I was apprehensive about the quality, but pleasantly surprised at the build quality, appearance and operation of this unit. GS-4000ie genset – I’m really happy with the quality of the GS-4000ie for the money. Fast delivery and simple to set up. I have only run the unit for a short time with no issue at all. 5 stars in my opinion. Show details · 1
Good generator. Just need a trickle – Haven't had to use the generator 'in anger' as yet but I'm sure it will be fine for when the inevitable power outages occur. I bought it for two reasons. The available power and the key start. I have a shoulder issue which makes pull starting difficult. And this is where the frustrations lie. Like other reviewers each time I've tried to start the… Read more · 2
generator - say once a month - the battery has been dead so I've had to pull start it. Very annoying. However, I solved the problem by paying $28.99 for a trickle charger from Amazon so the battery is now always charged and the generator starts first time every time. Why the manufacture couldn't include a charger with the (quite expensive) generator is beyond me. It would cost little and my 4 star review would be 5 star.
Fish and chips – Delivery was fast 3 days, gave it a run in for about an hour after putting the oil in and cooked fish and chips that night with a 2200 watt fryer no probs didn't miss a beat, very happy with purchase, thanks guys. Show details · 1
