Glacio 55L

Not good – We found this fridge doesn't work well. We purchased a new lead, ran it on low and eco, used different power sources and it still wouldn't cool our food. Not very useful on the road and relying on it to keep our food fresh

Good Quality for the price – I bought my Glacio 55l fridge from an online outlet for the purpose of camping without an esky. For 90° of the time, it sits in my wardrobe. When i head off camping i have it located where the back seat of my Navara used to be. It is plugged into a 100ah battery via an Anderson plug due to vibration etc. I tie the handles down to holding points to prevent movement. I found that if i set the controls on Eco and C set at -5°, the meat will not thaw and the beer (stubbies) will not freeze. The ambient temperature when sitting in the shade is generally between 25° and 40° depending where i camp. The fridge maintains the set temperature quite well. I have noticed though when set at -5°C, the screen fluctuates from -7°c to -2°c. The compressor switches back on and returns the temp back to and past the nominated temp of -5°C. I am happy with this. At night when the ambient temperature drops, the fridge holds the temperature better but have noticed that the battery voltage drops to 11.7v. The fridge then goes to sleep and cuts back in when the temp drops below the set level. The compressor operates but at a much slower pace. I have had this fridge now for at least 3 years without an issue, then .....without notice stopped working. I thought i had a cable connection problem. I checked everything, listened to the internals and discovered that the danfos compressor had either died or the circuitry of the panel had burnt out. I showed it to a refrigeration mechanic only to find that it had a gas leak due to pipes rubbing creating a tiny hole for the gas to escape gradually. To repair the Galacio fridge seemed to be more trouble and expence than its worth and so sold it for $80.00 for somebody to use as an esky or to have it repaired. I was satisfied with its performance due to the price i paid for it but did expect it to last longer than approximately 100hours total use over 3 years.
