GMC MX555

Good Small Machine – I find the machine to be very adequate to the domestic garden tasks. Having had a Ryobi a Rover and hmm a mmm can't remember, this is a very capable hard working machine. If you are new to chipper&mulcher it could be possible to come a cropper.
Would not recommend it – Ours has barely been used but it's not cutting anything above a cm. There was no manual with it to tell you which way the bolts turn and the blades need sharpening regularly. It is very noisy - too noisy for a home garden. It blocks up even with small stuff and you have to undo 2 bolts on the lid and lift the lid to clear it. Not good enough. Show details
Under performs – This machine is a lemon. It underperforms, no spares are available anywhere in the world. The blades and their screws are non standard so cannot be sourced from other manufacturers of mulchers. Don't buy anything with the GMC name on it. I think the company went belly up, I guess that's because they made such terrible products Show details
Similar experience to other posts – Cheap and nasty, one blade broke after little use and jammed frequently. I do not think that more words are required to share my experience which is similar to the other owners posted. A limited performer, and parts are unobtainable in Tasmania. Do not even attempt to cut damp material.
No parts available in NZ – My one broke one of the cutting blades. Bunnings here in New Zealand don't have any spare parts. A shredder should have spare parts available for it for a reasonable length of time. This model it only four or five years old so a commonly used part such as a cutting blade should be available.
Limited performer, not up to expectations – This shredder is ok for some small garden applications, shredding straight, dry bush cuttings, but don't expect it to quickly get through a spring/summer pruning session where you have quite a few bushes/shrubs to tidy up. Having a bench grinder on hand is advised because the blades dull fairly easily. Was not too expensive and is fairly portable.… Read more
I found that this unit doesn't like freshly cut clippings as they are not dry enough. The fibres bind around the blade disc centre, and clog the exhaust chute. The blades do not hold their edge for long so frequent sharpening is required. Leafy twigs are difficult to feed through the hopper and often get caught on the metal lips and edges, thus stopping them from making it to the spinning blades.
