Cheap and Cheerful (but a bit slow) – I bought it out of desperation of sick of sitting in my cold home office (we are not allowed to work in the office anymore), but my contract ends at the end of the year, I need to save some bucks on my energy bills now. I remember many people complaining about column heaters not being efficient, but I also remember seeing all these one the wall panel heaters in ski lodges when I was younger. At only $39, there is nothing to lose. I measured my tiny study (3m x 4m) and went for this 5 fin column heater. I put a cheap thermometre in the room to see if the temperature did change: it is very slow, about 1 degree an hour, but it did warm up hot enough to be over 20 degrees after a few hours. The problem of no fans is that you don't get the instant heat like your fan heaters, so I had to get a heat pad for my cold feet, and occasionally bring in a fan heater to help distributing the rising warm air throughout the room on very cold mornings. I was skeptical to begin with, now I can confirm it really works as a space heater - you just have to switch it on a couple of hours before entering the room, and make sure you use it in a room, not in an open plan area.
