Comparing FastCut 2 24-35 with my 25 years old 13-32 Deluxe MK II – Test drives this new COX Made Greenfield Fastcut 2 24-35 mower on the weekend, great mower! Plenty of power, comfortable seat, the engine is quieter than equivalent HP B & S engine, handles hilly sloppy areas better than my old 13-32 deluxe with and without diff locks. Only one concern is that the new COX Made Fastcut 2 24-35 is lots higher than my older Greenfield (I had a 25-34 Fastcut) mowers, the new one’s seat is about 74cm high, and the old one’s 60cm above the ground. The old model certainly makes you feel safer to mow the hilly areas.
Solid But No Frills – This was purchased for a rental property as I needed a ride on mower that would withstand any punishment. After less than 10 hours use the chain and drive mechanism failed and had to be replaced under warranty. This was taken care of by another dealer. Not a good start. When purchased ensure you have it serviced every year by a dealer in order to get the extended five year warranty. It may not be needed but for peace of mind it is well worth the $170 each year. The mower copes well with slopes and having a forward/backwards combined pedal, completes the job quicker than a wider mower can. It is unstoppable and can give a fine manicured finish or mow down three feet high undergrowth. Blades ($15) and other parts are dirt cheap and it can tow anything you can attach. My wife does not like using the mower as there is no lap safety belt and says there is a lag is pressing the pedal and getting full power. The twin Vanguard motor is relatively quiet and certainly has plenty of speed and power to tackle anything. I have a John Deere Outfront cabin professional mower costing 8 times the $6,000 Greenfield for farm use but thoroughly enjoy the small tractor design of the Queensland built mower. Second hand sales are strong and dealers say they see models 20 years old in perfect working order.

Quality machine and trouble free running – Purchased new on 16/03/17 and has now has done 125 hours on clock. Strong machine with plenty of power with 17.5.HP B&S. engine . Cannot see why you need more power in a mower. This mower was built by Greenfield before taken over by Cox Mowers.I have had 7 Greenfields in 40 years of living on 5 acres on the out skirts on Brisbane. Have had little trouble with any of these machines, they all did the job. Some annoying things like the fuel caps kept breaking and pour quality hand brake.Has alloy cutting deck and requires a lot of care so as not to crack it however will not rust like the steel decks on the American machines.
This machine has been used to cut lawn and short grass and with swing back blades does a beautiful job. I have never been bush bashing with it. Has a 8 litre fuel tank and I find B&S are thirsty engines. The mower has a high back seat and is very comfortable to use. It has all steel panels that are zinc anneal, thus no rusting or cracking like the plastic American machines. Cannot comment on Cox made machines but think they will be good quality also. Greenfield are expensive to buy, but they last and in the long run worth it.
Purchased in at Bill Jackson Mowerland for $6,000.

Great power and handling for a very sloped block – I am only about 5 hours in on this machine but so far very happy. The mower handles very well, and the engine is powerful and runs well. I am used to Honda engines in most of my garden equipment and was cautious about the Powerboss brand, but with the warranty and performance so far it seems very good - time will tell. Was also cautious that this is a new Greenfield after Cox took over the company. Some of the asthetics and engineering seem to be coming from the Cox facility but the overall Greenfield drive system is still there. Despite the new look it appears well built, still simple in its design (i.e. no large mold plastics) but instead with good metal parts that so far seem to be coated for durability.
The optional differential for slopes and my lawn area has proven to be needed. Without the lock I struggle up our hilly back block, but with the diff on it nothing seems to slow me down. Having the option is great for when I want to do the lawn and not tear up the turf. I can only compare this to my previous rover rancher (also aussie built, very solid but old with a 14 vanguard) but it had the same heel and toe drive which is super convenient which gave me good reason to choose the Greenfield. In comparison the greenfield is superior in every way, especially comfort and power. The single blade deck is ample and does a great job getting an even level even on uneven slopes.
Some of the features like the deck lowering leaver have been annoying in that the foam around the handle slips as you try and get a grip on it when lowering and raising. Many of the decal stickers on the machine also peeled back and became loose immediately on use but the dealer contacted Greenfield and quickly supplied a full replacement set to correct the issue, so as this is only a cosmetic problem that was easily corrected I won't reduce the rating. Good seat and steering wheel, and for maintenance everything is very easy to get to. The LED lights are nice and bright, and the handbrake is easy to engage. You can set a service timer on the hour counter which is handy too. The deck comes with a hose attachment which you can use to spray clean the deck itself.
I purchased a yard trailer to go with this machine and it is money VERY well spent. The power of the 24HP makes towing a breeze, whether that's 4 joy riding kids in the back or a heavy load of mulch. Overall very happy and doing my best to keep it in top shape, giving it a quick blow down after each use with the garden blower, and getting any moisture off above the deck... all in the hope she'll last me well into the next 30 years.
